I have no idea who they are other than working on some square enix games, so acquisition of square confirmed? lol

EDIT: apparently they were responsible for all the PC ports and are hugely talented:

Have they even made anything? Goggle pulled up a Tomb Raider remake and an announced (but non-existent) Marvel project. Bit bizzarre to announce an aquisition without any kind of a pedigree.

They are very good at porting so maybe more PC stuff incoming? Avengers was a hot mess like and that was the last thing I can remember them working on.

Another acquisition out of nowhere. I had to look them up on wiki, seems like they are mainly known for making ports of already existing games.

They are a studio specialized in [usually] high quality PC ports.
Now, if that's what they are going to do at Sony is anyone's guess.

That is good.

They are like BluePoint... more focused in Remakes/Remasters.
I hope they are allowed to do something original.

But remember, it's not an arms race guys

Interesting acquisition, to say the least. I wonder if they'll work on original IP or mostly aid in porting games over to PC.

Still holding out for that Bluepoint acquisition.

Studio specialized in PC ports, so that tells the whole story.
They are specialized in Console ports too... they do good Console ports... not so much PC ports (there are a lot of issues in their PC ports).

They ported Tomb Raider (2013) to PS3 and Rise of Tomb Raider to Xbox One and Xbox 360 (weird enough the 360 port is the only one to not have the famous input delay... even the original PC one has it).... ohhh the Rise of Tomb Raider PS4 and PSVR ports were done by them too.

From what I gather they've been mainly porting the likes of Tomb Raider & Deus Ex between systems, but have been around since the Dreamcast port of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, their work on porting Rise of the Tomb Raider to the Xbox 360 even had DF impressed. I wonder if this means they'll finally get to do their own thing or end up porting games till the end of time.

But in the case of Playstation, and where they are currently at it would be to port PS games to PC, right? Or you think they might have bought them to port PS4 -> PS5?

EDIT: Lol, their website is down due to the amount of traffic.

They've ported these games ( vast majority were Squenix games ). Of course i remember Rise Of The Tomb Raider for X360. You can't forget that. LOL

Looks like they'll be part of the PC porting team. That'll free up the WWS guys to focus on console development. It might mean quicker turnaround on PC ports as well, since Nixxes apparently likes to work alongside the main dev team, while the game is being developed.

Someone noted they could be used to port older generation games to the PS5. Seems possible as well. Maybe use them like BP to handle remasters, if Sony intends to lean heavy into their back catalog. Maybe they'll be used for something entirely different too. The head of Nixxes apparently doesn't care for game design. He just wants to provide technical services.

I hope they turn them into bluepoint 2.0

Ports to PC make sense, but it could be part of an effort to help devs port to PS5 as well. When big third party games launch on multiple platforms it's not uncommon for smaller studios to lend a hand.

Bluepoint is working on metal gear, and syphon filter and Castlevania... Because they are actually working on a unified emulation platform to launch on PS5. This studio, Nixxes, could help port older first party titles to improve them for the newer audience as part of this process. But that is overly optimistic.

Well shit that's not an announcement I was expecting lol. Housemarque didn't surprise me considering how closely they've worked together.

Had to research and found this, not sure if the list is complete:

Edit: Someone sent me an additional image with more games (Marvel's Avengers and Hitman Sniper Challenge):

Seems that Sony wants to release more (old?) PC ports without having to spend a lot of resources from their main gamedev studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac etc. or without spending a lot of money remaking/remastering them.

Pedro Motta Pedro Motta , feel free to add this image to the OP.

I can't see them doing any console stuff. What would they be porting to and from - PS5 to PS4?

Maybe remasters but why buy a studio specializing in ports to do that.

Despite all the complaints you see on forums most of their PC stuff has been very good - the Tomb Raider games are still used for GPU benchmarks which wouldn't be the case if they had done a bad job.

Sony don't want another Horizon where a valuable IP is dragged through the mud on tech sites because of a bodge job port.

These guys are really talented, they were big partners of Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics and they made great Tomb Raider ports (they were among the few to understand the Cell architecture on PS3).
Btw this pretty much confirms there was a string of acquisitions and they're announcing them one by one, Bluepoint is one of them.

So PS now has one of the best porting studios. All PS exclusives going to PC. CONFIRMED.

Ohhhh I just remembered that they ported Tomb Raider Definitive Edition to PS4 too.

PS. The Xbox One port was done by United Front Games.

Theoretically, that prowess at porting from one platform to another could work just as well going PS5 to PC as PS2/3/4 to PS5. Seeing as consoles are closer to PCs now than ever before, their skillset can work in multiple ways. I think PC ports are the most-logical conclusion, but it doesn't preclude them handling remasters, as they've got experience with the difficult-to-code PS3. Getting some PS3 games remastered on the PS5 would be pretty nice. The only reason I say it has to be remasters is because PS Now already exists to provide PS3 game support on the PS5.

They are a quality studio which i remember them from their PS3 days and which specializes on ports and remasters. Blue Point started like that as well so i hope they also grow and broaden their expertise.
At the very least PC gamers should now feel more at ease with the quality of the ports that come from Sony.

Excellent acquisition if for no other reason, freeing up the core studios to focus on one platform and leaving the porting to these guys.
Last thing I'd want is resources from ND or Insomniac wasted in ports to PC.
