Nixxes Software joins Playstation Studios

Can anyone explain what's the deep relationship between Playstation and this company? Plastic box fanboys don't really have a lot more arguments to criticize when the other plastic box does something like this

So, an in-house team to handle PC ports then. Should save them money, and ensure ports are great.

Time to repost this classic

Jack Nicholson Lol GIF

Interesting! I think this shows some more commitment to porting their titles to PC. Hope this means ports come out faster and are solid quality at launch. Maybe Demon's Souls WILL come to PC after all lol

Who in the fuck cares if all ps games eventually come to PC? PC is a completely neutral platform to the consoles. A totally different customer base mostly. The PlayStation consoles will still sell like crazy, just now Sony gets even more sales by also getting that PC players money.

Sony fanboys crying over this, especially some of them ps fanboy youtubers, are pathetic.

Smart buy; a pure tech-team with no IP baggage to inflate their market price.

It also might be instructive in terms of how the business landscape is changing going forwards. By which I mean it does make you wonder what the market is like for studios offering support services like this in a post-GP landscape.

Bear in mind MS are unifying everything under their new GDK, third parties are mostly utilizing cross-platform engines like Unreal and Unity, so I mean the potential clientele for a specialist port team has to be considerably smaller than it was.

Holy shit, this is the studio to buy if you are wanting to port a lot of your console games to PC. This is a pretty big tell for how serious Sony is taking PC now IMO.

I don't know, you can buy one of those plastic boxes and miss all the exclusives the other plastic box has or get a PC and play all of them. I can see how that might be interesting to some users

I know it's been said a bunch, but for those that are unaware. They're known for doing very solid PC ports in the past. With Sony interested in bringing more games to PC, it just makes sense.

They did the next gen update for the avengers and I believe tomb raider reboot PS4/Xbox one versions.
For anyone wondering.

I'm sure they have done a lot more, but these are the only two I know off.
They did the PS4 version of Tomb Raider only... the Xbox One was another studio.

Would make things easier if you read what he said.

"In terms of areas we have improved, I'd call out the delivery schedule for PlayStation Studios games," he said. "Nurturing creative talent is not as simple as throwing money at it. You also must give them the freedom to be creative, to take risks and come up with new ideas."

He's specifically talking about nurturing talent and it can't be done by just throwing money at it. The new studio is also PC porting studio.

Makes sense. Hopefully they can ramp up the output of PC ports, one a year won't cut it. And specially dig deeper into the legacy games from the ps2 and ps3 eras. A good PC port should be used as the baseline for PS4/PS5 versions of the game.

I guess this isn't particularly great news for Sony fans as this is basically a sign Sony are getting more heavily into the PC business.

Wtf is this argument? They are still sony console exclusive games. Meaning not on Nintendo and Microsoft platforms, who cares if a new playerbase on pc gets to play these games.

That's great but what Playstation fanboys were saying in a lot of posts in this same forum is that, in opposition to what Microsoft does, Sony only bought studios they've had a long and deep relationship with

And you're asking this question after they acquired a studio that is made to port their games to PC. This isn't a video game development studio.

Even as a joke it doesn't make sense:

"Nixxes Software is a Dutch game developer specializing in porting software across platforms and to the PC. They have primarily worked with Crystal Dynamics and Eidos (now a division of Square Enix) and have to date, produced and released no projects of their own design."
Housemarque, something else yesterday, nixxes today, from memory... it's a joke about frequency not content.. i personally don't think i will keep casting shade on Microsoft quite so savagely in future :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: you can dither and splutter all you want, I'm just keeping up with a changing reality

Bad news for console war purposes. Good news if you don't want the other Sony studios working on 2 platforms. Just my 2 cents anyway

Good buy for Sony, these lot are a very talented bunch. I could have sworn there was some witchcraft involved in their XB360 port of Rise Of The Tomb Raider, it was that impressive.

So the arguments that Sony is only about "organic" growth, and that they are done with PC are both dead.

Good for nixxes though, get the bag and no longer work contract to contract!

Bit bizzarre to announce an aquisition without any kind of a pedigree.

Well the company has their reasons, they have their plans of what they want for the future and they see something in that team that can help them out. I don't understand why people think something is "bizarre" about this simply because they are not insiders or part of the company to actually understand why they bought them.

Are you ignorant or what? Below are the big games they've worked on, also their specialization is porting console games to PC...

Mankind divided looks way better on pc, no doubts there <3 in my top 7 games this decade, though behind it's immediate antecedent... My only play of reboot TR was the first title on PC,too, and that was also great

Wtf is this argument? They are still sony console exclusive games. Meaning not on Nintendo and Microsoft platforms, who cares if a new playerbase on pc gets to play these games.

Well a lot of Sony "fans" have been using this argument for years about how they "don't need an Xbox" and that they don't have any "real" exclusives, so those people are probably pretty mad at this. But to any reasonable person this is not bad news at all

I'm a PS fan and I welcome them taking their back catalogue to the PC. I wouldn't even be bothered if they released games day and date, it doesn't stop my enjoyment of playing on a console.

Guessing they will act as a support studio?

Ah yeah, PC ports as well - makes sense to have it centralised.

Why the fuck are you comparing to acquire a small, unknown porting studio with spending billions aquiring many top IPs and AAA studios with Zenimax & co? It doesn't make sense at all.
This is exactly my point. Taking Playstation executives quotes out of context is becoming some kind of sports for some people here

It's obvious you won't/can't answer the question about which kind of relationship they had before with this studio. When they were saying they only bought companies they had a deep relationship with nobody said that only made reference to videogame studios as you are saying now. It doesn't matter though, I suppose even you can see the hipocresy in criticizing adquisitions while defending others.

Having said that, let's hope for more Playstation ports to PC soon

Based in the Netherlands, aka Hasan territory? 😳😆
Nixxes = porters...

It's all connected!

And they have been working with PlayStation, sometimes exclusively, for more than 20 years.
