No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

Now that's what I'm talking about. Survival mode and better inventory managememt makes this 100x more interesting. Also love how the freighters look.

After nearly an hour, it's still not for me, the game still has all the issues and niggles that turned me off in the first place.

Hope it will be a meaningful update for some, but it's still tedium for me personally.

Glad to see a large update for people who bought the game.

The update page they created reminds me a lot of the TF2 update pages.
I would love to see more devs do update pages like this, it makes updates feel more special then just a list of patch notes.

At Steam Dev Days this year there were a lot of talks about how Valve basically perfected the "games-as-a-service" updates. Make it a big, themed, named event rather than just patch notes. I doubt they were there, but HG must have learned the same thing.

Not sure where you're getting this from, you can build bases in any of the three modes.

Where did you get that idea?

I was confused by this:

Nope, you can build on Normal and Survival too. In creative mode you have the privilege of being immortal, with unlimited resources and you can build anything for free.

.

Woke up today to these news, nice. The announcement definitely shows more stuff than I expected, though I'm still disappointed that some of the fundamentals don't seem to be addressed. I'm certainly going to check out the new features, but I'm not expecting to spend too much time just expanding land bases and the freighter, although it's nice to have kinda other goals instead of just optimizing the resource gathering loop (as in having a custom freighter and land base layouts).

It's certainly good that they're working on the game, so it wasn't a hit & run scenario as some people suggested, and it would be nice for them to address their questionable choices in both game design and marketing at some point, but we'll see.

Btw, looking at the updates page, they really seemed to like my old sci-fi book cover layout, font and all. ;)

Uhm it's all randomly generated. It is adding something to have a different new combination.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Technically they have added things by updating the algorithm, but I was talking about the perception of not every planet containing life.

It makes encountering life/buildings more special.

I secretly loved this game. I never made it to the centre of the universe mind you however there was definitely something about this game that had me hooked in an "interstellar, sunshine" kind of way.

I'll 100% be staring a brand new game for this.

Yeah, I'm still about 168,000 lightyears away.

Oh sweet! I am going to farm the bejeezus out of this Vortex Cube planet i'm on because the Sentinels there don't aggro when you pick them up. I've only got 28 mil and i want to get a tidy nest egg for a freighter. Have to finish watching the video while i have cake and coffee :)

Its nice to see quite a lot improvements, but i'll personally wait for a second update.
This update doesnt seem to have anything that fixes game's lack of depth.
We need to ability to upgrade ships in meaningful way or build them from scratch, not wait for some to fly-in to space station.
We need more combat oriented gameplay with upgrades that give skills and enemies that are fun to fight.
So i hope that they will address those in the next patch.

Same here. But I'll probably won't be starting anytime soon due to time costraints. But I'm looking forward to hear more updates from HG.

I've been playing since launch and i still have 10 Atlas Stones in my hold which i need to hand in and i have all the achievements aside from the warp ones. Just when i want to warp out of the system i find an interesting planet and stay for a bit longer while listening to astronomy podcasts lol!

Check out my base NeoGAF!

I still believe in the game potential and fully support them.

I agree, and hopefully they will add quests and a story.

And I hope that Hello Games and Sean Murray pays no attention to them during their continued development efforts. People who refuses to budge from such opinions no matter what happens, deserves no attention.
Memers gonna to meme. Some people will always say NMS 1.0 is irredeemable.

I'm looking forward to trying this game again in 12-24 months but right now I'm still pretty sour on this game and company.

Watching that video just made me wonder why it wasn't all there in the first place.

Played 5 hours, doubt I'll go back even after this update.

Did they fix or patch in punch jumping?

Edit: Looks like no. Searched for 'melee' and 'jump' in the patch notes, didn't see anything.

I'll jump back in on PC if the update makes it run better

Question for people playing though I don't suppose they took away the life support system low message when you've got 75% left did they?

Cant wait to try this out tonight. Ive been a harsh critic on this game and still am but if this is good and continues to improve I can forgive.

Very happy to see freighter space ships and this is honestly more than I was expecting. It certainly looks like theyre taking some direction Minecraft did which in my books is very welcomed.

I can see this game becoming redeemed. I'm glad their persevering. Keep on trucking, Hello Games. We need more strong independent studios.

I might rejump in to try the base builder , but it's not something I typically enjoy (minecraft etc) , but I am glad to see some genuine control fixes like quickswapping.

I hope the next update focuses on gunplay / quests and animals (give me that large sand creature please ).

Also with all the teleporting to base / waypoint changes they have added into this update I hope we see portals next .

I would love a home freighter I can store multiple ships in, but for that to work each ship needs some different stats etc . Science ship should have low shields / guns etc

I'm so happy I bought this for $20 at GameStop! It sounds like I am going to have a great time.

This looks like a great update. Glad Hello Games didn't stray away after all the hate they got and are continuing on to improve the game. I haven't gave up on this just yet, looking forward to what else they have planned.
