No Man's Sky |OT2| Maths Effect

The marketplace you buy for your base goes in the wall.

And yet the interface for the storage container is on the outside, which seems bizarre. Either that or I built it in the wrong place...

Damn you, game! I've had a strict policy of not killing non-aggressive wildlife I've held on to the whole way, so of course a weirdo element only drops for corpses comes along. I ran into herds of stuff, eyes closed, flailing around with my boltcaster firing. It has enough homing and ricochet I figured it'd do the work while I pretended it wasn't happening. Poor little floating rhinos. Sorry guys. It was for science!

Just go to a cave; I try to live and let live in NMS, but I kill those chittering crabs with zero hesitation.

So I tried survival and died several times. The last try I decided I didn't even want to try to fix my space ship just gettin there was enough and I cheated and redeemed my pre order ship. Well I had to fix it anyways so that wAs a bust. But this time I had managed to find a planet that was doable and I was doing ok. So I went with it.

I have managed to get in a good spot with it. Here's the problem:

I cannot seem to get either a warp cell or antimatter (either would do to power my hyperdrive). I hear that I don't learn how to make antimatter until the next system. Which I can't get to. No one sells either from what I can see (especially not the space station or any trader going to it). My next goal is to warp to the next system (not power the hyperdrive or make it). I have some fuel that came with my hyperdrive but not enough.

Am I screwed and have to start over again or is there a trick for when you have the pre order ship? Supposedly they fixed it but I'm worried maybe the patch brought it back.

This guide for antimatter seems fairly thorough.

It's been a while, but I remember getting my first antimatter from an alien like this (I had already claimed my pre-order ship):
A kind alien - on your first planet, there is an alien - located inside an Alien Outpost somewhere on the surface - who will give you a single piece of Antimatter for free. To find the alien, head to a Signal Scanner - the structures shooting an orange beam of light vertically into the sky - and search for either 'Shelter' or a 'Transmission'. Shelter has a chance of bringing up an Outpost (different to Colonial Outposts), whilst Transmissions have a chance of leading you to a Beacon, which then leads you to an Outpost. You can also just roam the surface if you fancy doing it the old-fashioned way.

Did that. The transmission beacon (found without the antenna that lets me find where it is) lead me to a trade post but no alien there other than the usual.

Also those beacons that let you choose what to find don't let you look for outposts anymore, just colonial outposts.

I'm just worried that something in the patch undid the previous fix they did and it is back to being screwed if you redeem the bonus ship too soon.

I restarted the game in Survivor to play with the update and this beginning is just brutal. My first planet is very could and is very hard to stay alive until I can reach my ship or even another shelter. I'm not having luck with the cave system either.

Yea mine is cold too..thankfully I found aluminum deposits that I dig into to hide.

Why isn't there a like ingame timer/clock? It looks liek day but still says night when I leave. Yes there was a night time before it.

Geez, I discovered a planet today on my quest to find Coryzagen. Not only did I find it, the place was so loaded with life that the framerate dropped like a stone. Had to have hit below 20fps.

Guys, I found my dream freighter and was able to save up for it in the same system. I left the space station to go back and buy it and it's gone. There's usually a constant fleet but there's no freighters or fleets anywhere. Is there a way to make them reappear?

Too hard to keep track of, I think. Because if you go to a different part of the planet, the time will be different.

Oddly enough I found the problem. The bug was not in giving me the fuel to warp or not giving me fuel to warp rather. The bug was in every time I pressed the down button it would say I have no fuel to warp. I saw that it had a little but I figured maybe in survival you need more (like you do for launching). When I went to the star map and just selected a system it warped me to it, gave me the hyperdrive formula, and gave me a quest to get the recipe for antimatter.

There was a clock down by the planet info originally but they patched it out. Night was the same time and length on every planet, not sure if that's still the case.

Uh, yeah. The "no fuel" message refers to not having any fuel in your inventory to recharge the item... as that is specifically the recharge menu. If there is any bar on the hyperdrive you can warp. I was confused when you said that you had "a little" in it already.

Well then they need to change their message cause when I'm walking around on land it tells me to press down in space to access the map.... Goddamnit, I just realized they were trying to tell me to press down and select the galactic Map. Not press down to select map (which in my defense their wording was a bit bad).

Hm well they do jump in and out. I guess you could check adjacent systems, though I don't know if anyone has ever proven that fleets actually end up in different systems as opposed to just disappearing.

Glad you got it figured out! Yeah each warp cell only bumps up the warp meter a bit.

Sometimes I accidentally scan in space and then get the symbols showing up on planets. Ruins the look of the game when you're on a planet and you look up in the sky at another planet only to see it covered in ugly waypoints. Is there a way to turn them off again?

I'm four systems into Survival and I'm loving it. This is the main game for me from now on, I think.

I think I've died about 8 times now. Mainly pirates. Although I've won nearly as many fights as I've lost. Haven't upgraded my ship yet (using the preorder ship). Can't wait to get better shields and cannons.

Pirates seem to attack you whether you are carrying cargo or not. But if your ship is empty you only seem to get one pirate I think. Which is usually manageable.

Biggest tip I can give - never, ever land on a planet without the fuel to take off. NEVER. Just don't.

I spent about 20 minutes stuck in one of those prefab cabin things as the worst radiation storm in history raged outside. I tried to make a dash for some plutonium when it subsided, but then it started up again and I ended up huddled in a cave about 30ft from the cabin unable to move. When my life support started to dwindle I just though, nah, and loaded up my previous save. Maybe I could have eeked out some sort of survival, for a while at least, but sometimes it's best just to chalk something up as a lesson learned. So yeah, don't land places unless you're fuelled up. Some planets are just too tough right now. Need some upgrades.

you can grow that stuff in your base once you get the formula.

Alright GAF, these new impressions have convinced me. I just pulled the trigger on the PC version. I think ill start with the survival mode, as the wrinkles it adds seem to make for a more interesting experience!

So... The message beacons disappear when you go out of range. Come back and nothing. Even if you save.

Must not be implemented yet.

Apparently a reddit user just found another user's message from a Communication Station! He wasn't able to see the other player's base though (unfortunately).

Don't be afraid to reroll your starting planet. I imagine some are almost impossible. Also there can be a lot of hiding in caves doing nothing at first, lol.

It does open up when you can fly between planets and teleport though.

Did everyones stacked items get reset to 1 piece aswell? I had every possible item stacked to the max just to find out a few monts later that I now only have 1 piece left in my inventory prom alle the stacked items I had :(...

Spent all night doing base quests. Holy shit this is sooooo on the right track. The use of elements and item crafting and potential for new items and tech to build on the field is promising! Just unlocked glass finally! Circuit boards are going to be a pain to reliably have to make the automated mining units.

Man, I'm going to be sad when these base missions are over. At the same time I'm thinking about a survival mode playthrough and how annoying it's going to be to get blueprints. Really wish there was an alternative, like rarely finding items and objects on the marketplace on space stations or trade depots.

Thought this was known lol

I don't make a habit of visiting reddit, so sorry if it's old news. :p

Cruising around my base planet looking for a Gek Charm, and my god, Sean fucking Murray, the terrain your engine is creating now! Legit proper mountains, the arrangement of fauna feels so much more natural. Sure there's still some sore points, but I feel like I could walk around this planet for another hour and not get bored by the scenery.

And a shoutout to Grant Duncan as well, look at the colors this game is producing. This looks like a sci-fi LoZ: Breath of the Wind. Almost painterly and impressionistic.

p.s. please Hello change Photo Mode to a quick toggle. I'm missing some great shots because I can't get to it fast enough. Also, I wouldn't mind if Photo Mode removed those floating twigs...

Yeah, Photo Mode really should be a toggle. It's so obnoxious to have to activate it in the options and then return to turn it off again.

Yeah, the landscapes seem to be more natural now. Like, before it would always be a couple of types-either rocky with mounds, completely flat with steep hills, or just a bunch of mounds all over.

It seems natural now though. Really impressed at their newer generation

Did herbivores ever attack the player before? I was killing some creatures to get Mordite ( :( ) and I must have killed his cub because he started chasing me and he was pissed. Had the red icon and all.
Never killed many creatures before 1.1

Or I guess not all herbivores are chill

Already posted in the foundation thread, but here goes nothing

Also, how do I submit bug reports? :(

I think there is a limit for stuff. It says MAX on the right side of your pic of the pillar. Maybe that's it?
I haven't hit a limit yet.

Yeah that was already in.
Some non-predators are defensive and will attack if you come close.

Your scenario is more rare. For me it was killing the female that made a walking teddy bear go berserk on me.

The best tip is to walk in those situations. It uses far less Life Support. In can vary from planet to planet. But never use the jet pack. If you can find resources, just stand still and mine them from that spot. I died around 30 times and started to believe it to be impossible, but now it's much easier now I know the rules. I haven't upgraded a thing and haven't died for a good few hours, all because I understood the rules...and maybe because there is a planet full of Thamium9 in my system :D

My botanist is asking me to go find something in a ruin (it's his 3rd quest, after the sac venom and gravitino balls), says he marked the place on the map, but when I exit the conversation there is no marker.
Is that a bug ?

Thanks for the tip - literally saved my life! I only re-rolled once because I changed my graphical settings and had to restart, and didn't understand the save system. I've spent two hours cowering in caves, scavenging for resources. But its actually very fun! I can understand why the game needs this mode now, having played it. I've repaired my ship, but I still need to get to it. And so, tomorrow night, the great expedition begins!

You might need to switch planets and *temporarily* build a new base.

I was on a mostly water planet and couldn't get any base quest markers to pop because the planet I was on didn't have any abandoned buildings or ancient monoliths. Once I switched planets I found a new base, I only built the science and farmer stations, the quests popped, I finished them off and then relocated back to my original planet and rebuild my old base.

The resources you used on the base will go into the cache so you're not actually losing resources when you relocate. It is a pain in the ass if you spent a lot of time designing your base (like I did).

Rigogen is the hardest one, after that you're golden.

I was lucky and found it on the second planet I looked on. It's definitely underwater, and it has white bulbs. It's much easier to spot at night as the bulbs glow in the dark.

Played a bit more and some things are just really annoying the shit out of me

Why am I seeing neon, glowing plants on a barren, no-flora planet? It's almost always around caves, which leads to:

Why are caves almost always the same looking? They're all lit up like an xmas tree and styled the exact same(so far)

Then there's the flying drones. Why are they literally on every planet(so far)? Why would they be on a "barren" planet. Makes no sense. Also the ships that fly over ever 20 seconds are really stupid

I love empty, lifeless planets because it feels really immersive to think you're the only one there and I enjoy exploring the landscape(as weird as it sounds) but that stuff just totally kills it for me. Can those things be fixed with mods on PC?

There are lore reasons why they're on every planet. I barely notice them on barren planets as they're very passive, generally.

Anyone found gold since the new update? Can't find it anywhere, even on planets that say they have them.

Yes, I've found gold. The second planet I visited since the update had massive gold mounds littered all over the place. Left with a stack of 2,000 or so and stashed 1,000 in my freighter just in case. What I'm having trouble with is this stupid Spadonium for the construction terminal guy. Granted, I've only looked in one system so far, but I'm hoping "bounce around between a dozen systems looking for an extremely rare element" isn't the new gameplay loop.

Spadonium is pretty common, don't worry.

Is gold on the surface like before? I do like how they've made finding elements harder. :D

I guess i'll check more star systems tonight
