No Mans Sky | PC Performance Thread

They've sold millions now, but that money wasn't there several years ago when throwing an arbitrary amount of resources at development would have been relevant.

1. Sell game
2. Game is PC shitshow
3. Make millions in revenue
4. ?????
5. Game runs perfect now

Obviously, this is how it works

So basically if the default settings were no vsync, boderless, and max framerate ...then most people would be running it fine. Obviously, still some crashes based on other issues - but that seems like the long and short of it.

I have not the best PC and will refund because I play on ps4 but I thought it would be nice to know the performance of a lower range PC.

Spec:
I3-4130@3.4GHz (CPU is at max after a short time in game)
GTX760
8GB Ram
OS is Installed on an SSD and Game on a Raid0 with two 7600rpm HDDs

getting around 30 to 45 fps without any stutter besides 2 short ones after loading. hovers around 35-40 most of the time and only goes to 29fps if there is a wide open field and it's loading new stuff for a second. So capped it with rtss to 30fps and it runs without problems.
First Planet only.

here are my settings:

Couldn't you have changed the language to english before posting the settings? :p

I got in, changed some graphics settings including upping the resolution to 1440p, now when I try to restart it to apply the settings the screen is blinking off and on. Has anyone else ran into this?

Uh.

So I had all settings at max.

Ingame VSync disabled.

Driver VSync enabled.

Got around 40-55 fps.

Decided to change the ingame FPS counter from 60 to MAX just for funsies.

I now have a constant 60 fps.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update:

I reloaded my save, and for a couple of minutes I had 60 FPS. Hey, pretty nice right? I went to the kitchen to get a soda, and when I came back my FPS was suddenly at 50.

I hadn't moved or anything.

Time of day, maybe?

They've sold millions and, as they keep pointing out, they're a small team. But if they're going to price their game like a 'AAA' gaming company, they need to start acting like a 'AAA' gaming company.

I think there is a lot wrong with the game but this argument is bogus. Economies of scale. They don't have a unified back office, HR, or legal counsel. They don't have bargaining power for subcontractors.

Shit. Nestle is a giant chocolate company with great customer service and their 50 gram bars are cheaper than a single chocolate from the 3 person chocolate shop in a small town. I wouldn't expect it to be any other way.

You cannot throw business realities out the window because you want the same good to have consistent qualities across producers regardless of the situations of those producers. It's crazy.

So Borderless, No Vsync and Max framerate are the best bet for the smoothest performance?

Tearing though..so i turned on vsync after all.
Game don't run very well (for that graphics) on i5-3570 and gtx 970, textures looks like does not have AF at all (because procedural?) and IQ with FXAA is very bad.

I'll keep an eye out for your report!

Realistically, I have impulses as well so there's a good chance I buy this game anyway. I guess you kinda have to be impulsive when you buy $700 video cards tho

I have similar specs, lemme know how it runs.

So...I can actually alt-tab in and out just fine so far. Game was pretty choppy initially, turned settings to max, resolution 2560x1440, turned Vsync off, both in the game and forced off in Nvidia's control panel (I have a GSync monitor). Restarted, things had a bit of stutter initially, but since the first ten seconds or so it's been 60FPS with very few issues. I'll update once I get off the first planet (which could be awhile because I didn't play the PS4 version so I don't know what I'm looking at really, guess we'll see if I like the actual gameplay!)

Edit: Running 3770k @ 4.1Ghz/16GB RAM/EVGA 980TI SC+ @ 1398Mhz

Can you force AF via nVidia CPL? Does it make a difference?

Honestly I would wait to see if they patch it, right now, despite how good the game is and feels in terms of atmosphere, the stuttering and performance really takes away from what good it does, it's very jarring.

What about the price point? $60 big ones seems a bit steep imo.

IQ without FXAA is very bad too. Even at 8K it wouldn't look that good.

Weird. Bordeless shouldn't give you any tearing at all. Maybe that's only valid for directx games?

fairly identical to my rig so yay, glad to know

Thanks man. Same specs as me so this should do me perfect.

Thats my rig pretty much, I am hopeful!

btw, quoting for those who may not have seen:

this fixed my inconsistent frametimes completely. There is still occasional stutter but it is much more like the usual open world stutter rather than indications of something being wrong.

Just wanted to update after flight that there are indeed frame drops from time to time using these settings, but as Garrett said it feels like the normal open world jank. When you're on a planet walking around it should be perfect 16.6ms on a 60hz display.

Fullscreen, primary, yes, nada nada, hoch is high, mittel is low.

Just follor first letters haha

Alles du need to know, mein mann.

Heh, I figured the first letters were giveaways. :p

Please keep playing some more, try disabling VSYNC or something and keep us updated. Most people have top rigs so it's interesting to see how the game performs on mid end hardware.

edit: oh, different person, haha

They definitely just made a metric fuckton from sales, time to add new people. They can't support a game of this "size" without it. Simple.

They did

http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/issues/

We’ve brought a new QA team on board today (larger than the entire Hello Games team!). This will complement the existing Sony QA team.

But they definitely need to hire a good community manager and PR person. Developers should not be the sole face of interaction with the community they are delivering a product to, for many reasons.

just played 20-30 mins,

Have a very nice Home planet, playing maxed out at 1440p, no vsync/ Borderless

GTX 1080,
4690k,
16gb
SSD

Seem to get stutters when leaving/entering ship and sometimes drops when out and about but nothing lower than 50 fps so far. for the most part it runs at 60fps. Definitely not "great" and i feel the IQ could be better.

As i say i've only played 20-30 mins so its not a great test but i've seen enough to not ask for a refund as Ill put some faith in the team to fix these issues.

Yeah I get the heavy stutter when entering ship also and leaving it. A few FPS drops here and there. But I'll stick with it

Short gameplay video on my system. Flying from a space station to a planet, cruising a bit and then flying to another planet.

6700k @ 4.5ghz
980 @ 1550 mhz
16 GB DDR4 @ 3066mhz

Some stutter, especially when entering the orbit of a new planet. Also some drops below 60 fps. But overall not that bad. I'd say it's at least playable.

One more datapoint - works fine for me. i5-4690k, GTX 970, 8GB. 1080p with default settings, runs at 60 fps most of the time with occasional stutters and looks just fine (though I don't care much about pixel detail as long as the framerate is good). Just did the first hyperjump.

All max settings?

So has anyone managed to fix the game from locking up the PC whenever trying to start it?

Found a bunch of reddit threads but none of their suggestions worked for me

I didn't check out the previous posts, but it's possible he is briefly dipping below 60 which would explain the tearing.

CPU?

Solid 60fps on foot and flying, small drops when explosions happen or when I engage boost. Other than that fine. I turned on SSAA x4 and it made a big difference. Borderless too.

You maybe talking to our german friend but, yeah, they will need to fix this mess and game is going through the roof with the price still.

I am glass half full person and know they will update the hell out of this. I see light in the times of this darkest time line.

Game works great for me.

DSR x2, 4 anti aliasing, vsync and anisotropic x16 all in nVidia panel.

A few stuttering when loading something new and still jaggies, but it's just few hours after launch.

i5 6600
1070
16g ram

Played more than an hour, it's just FANTASTIC. Exactly what I wanted it to be. Crazy worlds full of color and weird stuff. I love it.

Runs at a constant 60FPS maxed out on my system. 980ti, 15 4690k, 32GB RAM, at 1080p and installed on an SSD

Just put in my refund request. I don't want to waste any time on a subpar version. Maybe I'll give it another shot during a sale later on.

See this Hello Games, this is why you delay a product that isn't ready. I'm probably doing the same. I like it, but I don't like technical issues.
