No Mans Sky | PC Performance Thread

There was just a small patch on Steam, not sure what it did.

i7 6800K @ 3.4GHz
OC GTX 1080
16GB RAM

Playing at 4K maxed out I'm getting 50-60fps. There is some stuttering though it seemed to happen more when I first started the game in the tutorial phase. I heard someone say turning down the shadows from Ultra to High helps with the hitches.

But let's be honest, this game is not a graphical showcase. It looks OK at times to downright ugly at others. This game should never dip below 60 for someone with a GTX 1080, even at 4K. Hopefully the game continues to get patched to help further improve the performance.

Why is GOG miles better than the Steam version? Its just faster and smoother.

It isn't.

At least from the one friend I have that has got it via GOG, his performance is worse than anything I have seen from anyone else. The game outright halts for seconds at a time. Gave up on it and went to get pizza haha!

The game looks bad, frankly. I understand that the textures are procedurally generated as well, but that doesn't make them not look really poor. The FOV is still really low, even at 100 (it's probably vertical, not horizontal...). The chromatic aberration is... abhorrent and there's no way to turn it off. The menus are really cumbersome to navigate. Etc. Performance was OK, but stuttered heavily on my 2500K and GTX 1080, with 16 GB of RAM.

Played for around one hour before having dinner. Literally as soon as I started mining the minerals right next to my ship, a security bot started attacking me. It summoned bigger security bots that almost killed me. I had to run really far away to break their leash. Came back to the game just now and all my progress was gone. I was ready to leave the planet. Nice.

I quit the game, uninstalled it and refunded it.

You guys can argue and cry about this all you want. If you are that unhappy, get a refund, that is what it is there for (On STEAM anyway). I'm not saying you can't voice your complaints. You absolutely should but IMO people are taking this way too far. I don't know if it's how hyped the game is or what but damn! I've been gaming on PC's since games on PC's started and I dunno, I'm just not really THAT shocked that there are issues on launch day. I don't care if it's a $10 game or a $100 game. The price of a game obviously does not dictate how well it is going to run on launch day in the real world. I have paid plenty of $$ for games from WAY bigger studios than this with a ton more issues. The game has been out for HOURS.

Since the dawn of time. Seriously? Lucky you!

Its a shit port and people rightfully complaining, what exactly do you think is wrong with that?
Are indies suddenly getting special treatment? I wouldn't hope so.

Game is running great on my setup. Everything on High/Maxed. It stuttered just a bit when I first started it up, but now nothing.

Windows 10
I5-4460
EVGA GTX 1070 SC
16gb ram

I thought I was going to come into this thread, like most other PC performance threads, and talk about tweaks, tricks and fixes but instead it looks like we are arguing. Awesome. Does anyone remember Witcher 3 launch? There were all kinds of performance related issues. It was nothing like this shit. Can't people go argue in the OT or something?

You apparently are missing the point. I am not giving this game any special treatment. Apparently you are new to the PC world. Welcome!

Also, I literally tweaked one setting and it's running fine. Surely there will be a driver update and some patch business happening from the devs end to address pop in and such. Jesus.
Yes, this was a rocky launch. I am just not really surprised I guess?

WORST GAME EVER OMG! THE SKY IS FALLING!

You're the one that's at the center of most of the arguing. What's the point in the "Gosh guys it's just 10 people" in a PC performance thread? You aren't sharing tweaks or tricks, you're just posting excuses. If anything, you need to go to the OT.

But it is. Ive not had a slow loading or stuttering issue since I used it. Steam got longer loading and stuttering for me.

This is super weird. But it works fine now, for me.

GTAV's PC release was plagued with issues too. i don't understand what it is about this game that is causing this kind of reaction. it's absurd.

We need a tie breaker here.

Anyone else try GOG v Steam?

Shit has been adding up for a while now. Initial reveal was full of hype. Then people got kinda down on the game, seeing already a failure. And then the latest weeks.

They need to give us more specific info, like what hardware you're running and so on.

So I am having an odd issue with this game I am using a DS4 on PC with the SCP driver and it seems to randomly get stuck or will move my POV randomly all over the place like I am moving the right stick, or sometimes when I let go of the left stick my character will just keep walking? Is anybody else getting this?

The game has native DS4 support so you shouldn't need a 3rd party driver

Are you on the Windows anniversary update? It screwed with DS4s on third party software unless you do an additonal fix.

My arguing is done from here on out. This is fucking hilarious. Peace and good luck!

Fuck this shit. Let's have higher standards

Anyone running a 5820k + 390x by any chance? If so, let me know how it is. The review section on steam is a dumpster fire right now so I'm afraid to pull the trigger.

I'm playing games exclusively on PC since forever.
Just because it runs for you doesn't mean its a perfect port. And from the forum posts out there, it seems its very badly optimized.
Of course its not the worst PC port ever, but people have every right to complain, because they payed money for a product. End of story

Specs:

980GTX SLI
3770K @ 4.3GHz
Windows 10 64-Bit

Got it running smoothly now, had insta-crashes because I decided to mess around with the game files before running it :p Set the FOV to 140 and it made a big difference, the default FOX just feels wrong.

The mouse feels a bit weird to me, not very smooth... don't know what that's about. Also have the occasional hitch, not sure what's causing it though, maybe CPU?

Anyways, time to go enjoy, I'll check the thread later.

Well I use the SCP driver so it should just be treating my controller like an Xbox 360 controller. Is this known to mess with the SCP driver or just a problem when you use the DS4 without additional drivers? Also what is the additional fix?

There is a very fat difference here:

I am NOT claiming everyone is having the same experience here. I am demonstrating one case - the only person I know of and was sat with - where the GOG version was bad.

If I could bet, I would bet that this same experience is possible with Steam and Humble.

Tried it for 30 minutes earlier and it was mostly fine other than some hitches every few minutes.

And now I try it and I'm stuck at an infinite loading screen as soon as it starts.

Treating DS4s as 360 controllers was broken on all software in the update. You can fix it on Inputmapper, not sure about SCP. Just head to inputmapper's site and they should have it on the front page somewhere.

How do you change the FoV to 140?

Is it true the GOG version is fine? Just Steam that's fucked?

My GOG version is running fine for the most parts (some stuttering here and there, especially when entering the atmosphere of a planet for the first time).

But my hardware is also relatively 'beefy' and overclocked.
6700k @ 4500 mhz

Just left my starter system again after going back to explore more, and strip mine emeril.

New system first planet I land on

Abundant in wildlife and plants
No hazards, standard temperate planet.
low security sentinels.
Mountains of emeril and gold everywhere.
Already found 5 drop pods in 45 minutes taking my suit to 43 slots.

Can see me being here for a while

Found some massive stags on the planet too

Runs well on my nano, 4K looks nice but the fps tanks flying over water?

So anyone have crashes on steam but works on gog?

Steam version here locks up the PC (i7 4790K 32 GB RAM Titan X Win 10 up to date drivers) so its effectively garbage

Poor PC folks. I've been playing NMS just fine on my PS4

Can't let a drive by go unnoticed. Let's have a look....

Pee-Cee Gaming. This is why I stick with consoles, PC may always and forever be faster and technically superior than consoles, but it sucks when devs treat PC gamers as second class citizens.

Shit is simply unacceptable.

Ah yes, you are one of the fanboys of platform warring. Enjoy that life

Bye bye

Might not matter much either way, but just in case for those just starting up, you don't need to wait for your multi-tool to cool down when using the mining beam. You just need to let off the trigger until the active charge stops. Once the heat is already dissipating you can immediately press the trigger again to start a new charge and it will reset the heat meter back to 0. So basically you just need to let off the trigger for ~1 sec each time the bar starts to flash red.

Yeah, I figured that out after 30 minutes or so, appreciate the advice though! I had a really, really hard time requesting a refund here. If this were early access for $30 or even $40 I would've kept it. I know they're going to improve it, and I'll definitely bite at some point in the future.

I definitely understand this game being worth the full price for the people who are super into it, but I'd likely play it a few hours a week to relax (I normally play golf games for that zone out type of gaming, but I can see this fitting in nicely). Looking at that level of involvement I kept looking at the $60 price and cringing. Hopefully by the time we see a sale they've implemented a lot of the other stuff they mentioned. I'd also drop the full price if we could expect extensive mod support, but I haven't seen anything on that yet and I doubt it's a priority.
