So I'm about to give up tinkering for the night, but one observation:

Was having terrible stuttering with one type of cloud rig. Switched to another which is effectively the same, but 4x the CPU and 4x the RAM. Suddenly the stuttering seems to be gone, pretty much entirely. This is on an 8-core Intel xeon.

Maybe the game does better with more CPU cores vs higher frequencies?7

edit - hmm. once i uncap the framerate, stutter re-emerges. idk.

45-50ish FPS, but with occasional studdering. Was really hoping for a solid 60. Based on specs I figured that would be do-able

Changing graphics settings doesn't really make a difference. High vs Medium settings I mean.

AMD drivers updated to 16.8.2

It's pretty important to disable Gsync in the TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML in the game folder. Game runs mostly without stutter for me with Vsync forced through the driver and fullscree.

Works perfect for me at 3440x1440, except the hud stretched but I can deal with that.

5820K, 1080 SLI. One card works ofc no game ready drivers or SLI profile but I don't need it.

Never below 60 and that's on planets or in space, doesn't matter if I transition or not.

Why? I tested this game with a g-sync monitor and it was glorious. No suttering, hovering between 50-90 fps at 1400p Quad HD, no need to do anything at all because of the hovering frames, just turn off v-sync and you're good to go. Man I love g-sync... I wish I could take the monitor I use at work home.

But I'm being honest, are you getting any kind of problem with gsync on?

So technical problems aside, are there noticable visual improvements on PC over the PS4 version or are all of the issues (most importantly terrible dithering/draw in) engine related and remain on PC?

Yup, working for me in fullscreen not borderless, was alt tabbing in and out to check if my fraps shots had worked that I just post in the photo thread, was working perfect, got straight back into game as well and carried on.

well I will be able to tell in 30min or so

let's see how it is then!

Maxed out without vsync, Full Screen
45FPS average, lowest i've seen 35FPS for now. Game is installed on an SSD, I've also GSync. No stuttering, smooth as hell. Well, smooth as a game at 40FPS obv.
No problem for now

A couple of planet later I can confirm that the game performs without any issue for me. It has an horrible IQ and the draw distance is abysmal but I'm not experiencing stuttering, frame drops and so on.

This may be old news, but Reddit is saying the frame limiter is actually making the frame rate lower than what it should be. I.e. if you limit to 60 you'll get <60fps. Apparently turning it off completely will dramatically increase your fps. YMMV of course.

Once I tweaked stuff I'm not getting stuttering or big drops. The game looks muddy as hell though even at 1440p.

People were right about the 100 FoV being way off too, make sure to change that to 140+ in the TKgraphics file. Setting it to readable does make it so you don't have to change the FOV every startup btw, but it'll revert to 100 (or whatever is set on the slider) for your play session if you change graphics in-game.

Well the game runs at about 30-45 on high to medium mix just like I thought on my laptop.

I don't get any stutter in area's i've been in for a while but when exploring out further (mainly with my ship on a planet) it stutters like crazy if i turn too fast.

It's playable but it's not exactly enjoyable when things get heavy load. The texture popping is hideous though, just flat out disgusting since everything is just perpetually fizzling in and out of existence.

8gigs ram

I only disabled vsync and set framerate cap to MAX.

I feel like considering the required specs the game should be running at a steady 60.

Wow thanks for posting this. I had 60 fps limit on and could never get over 58 fps and it would drop lower a lot, now it's stuck at 60 (vsync)

Just more depressed I guess. While I do prefer PC gaming and have been doing since the early 90s, when I see games like this not working well on the PC side its just a let down.

After playing my games at 4K, playing anything on a PS4 is depressing.

Alright, 3 benchmarks that I hope will help some of you. FRAPS fps counter on, both space + ground gameplay, the results speak for themselves so no need for me to explain the results for you :)

GTX 780 + i7 4790K 1080p max settings
GTX 780 + i7 4790K 1440p max settings

GTX 980 + i7 6700k 1440p max settings

V-sync off in all of them, g-sync in the 980 video.

Edit: So I'm very happy with my 780 setup. 95% 60fps at max settings, but downsampling is a bit of a stretch for it. Downsampling DOES clear the image a lot though.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
No matter what I do the game doesn't respect the framerate limit that I'm setting on Rivatuner.

I tried changing the Global value, adding the .exe to the list, launching the game from desktop, from the steam icon on system tray, from inside Steam.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I turned most settings down and still can't really hit 1080p60 on my 1070.

I figured it had to be an issue with my PC, so I loaded up Doom and I've got that running fully maxed 1080p60. No issues. Seriously this is total BS.

Gotta be something broken in the game. The textures and IQ didn't even look good at that poor performance. This might be my first refund.
What CPU/RAM you got? I'm running 1070 and getting flawless performance.

WHAT
THE
FUCK

The GoG standalone version runs way WAY better for me than the Steam one.
There are still some tiny little loading hitches when a new sound wants to play or when you enter a new chunk that gets loaded, but it's at a minimum compared to the Steam version.

I however can NOT alt-tab in fullscreen, but whatever, borderless it is.

Anyone else have this thing locking up their PC completely on exiting to desktop?

It doesn't even make it to desktop. It just goes black and totally unresponsive.

Weird isnt it? I honestly can't figure out why it would be happening.

I will stream the game quick and show you how flawless this gog version runs, here is the little broadcast I just did, watch from 2 mins onwards https://www.twitch.tv/phil0sophy/v/83279154

Yo phil0sophy, bro, for real, is there someone else near you that can do a quick health checkup to see if you are ok?

I... um... that didn't look smooth at all and it's freaking me out that you think it is...

EDIT: Is the steam version that bad that it makes the GOG version look good?...

With framerate limit off and vsync in drivers the framerate seems to hit 60 when standing still or flying over a planet

BUT the game freezes/stutter for seconds when climbing a hill or entering the ship or doing other random stuff

REALLY distracting. Could it be the game is trying to contact servers and failing? Surely my hardware shoul handle the game flawlessly

Ok. So on that water planet I'm currently the frame rate is all over the place between 50 and 144+ FPS; also the render distance is pretty bad. But the worst thing is the pop up when entering planets. Stuff appears within grainy clouds from nowhere. And it seems it's populating the planets with objects when you are near them. Stuttering also increased for unknown reasons. M/KB controls are also not very good. Controlling the ship is just not fun.

Windows 10
i7 4790k
GTX 1070
Vsync off
All set to max

With all the bad impressions ive been reading along with TB's assessment on the matter unfortunately i wont be spending 60 bucks on this.

Its bad enough that the game is shallow and repetitive, but the PC version looks like a joke.
