Its been 10 years. Have they added dead planets yet? I remember every single planet had a lifeform on it with atmosphere. It was so stupid.
Ironically, way back, exactly during launch it definitely had dead planets, I thought it was cool enough though obviously somewhat pointless, especially at the time.

You also could only dig the terrain in metal deposits, which the dead planet also had, I remember thinking why on earth they didn't put the system of terrain modification to all terrain instead of just these metal blocks, which the devs did in fact do almost right after lol.

actual gameplay still boring
Started this game literally 5 times and played about 6-8 hours of each. I can see why some people who are really in to space and exploration dig this. I however got so bored with the constant resource management and mining. Plus the fact that it’s all text based dialogue.

Just not for me and that’s ok. Massive respect to the developer though, they turned it around in a big way after the initial failed release.

The day they change the trailer music I'll fall off my chair

Always the same music, always the same kind of montage.

Is there anything interesting to do in the game now other than just traveling between empty planets with nothing to do?
You have to keep yourself busy and make your own fun a bit.

Like I found a crashed starship on a planet and decided to take it, because it was so much bigger and better than my current one. But pretty much everything in it was broken. To fix that you need resources that you can find or buy from traders or spacestations.
I just made fixing that starship my primary goal in the game and while doing that stumbled on other stuff to upgrade my abilities/gear/ship.

But yes I totally get that it feels like you are doing 'nothing' or it is boring, because the game is not forcing you to progress in any direction. Maybe they should add a game mode where you NEED to upgrade your stuff to progress towards the center of the universe. Almost like gear checks. But that would also involve improving the combat, since that is pretty basic still.

One of the worst games I ever played (completed) on launch. I tried to give it another chance 2 months ago .. still worst game I have ever bought

It might have improved on what It was day 1 but man! Its still a turd to this day.

It hasn’t been like that since the launch version.

For a long time it has been LEGO Elite Wing Commander Minecraft Harvest Moon Starship Troopers.

Not finding anything fun to do right now is essentially like saying you have no creativity and imagination at all.

If it’s too much and you want a more compressed version of what No Man’s Sky does then try Starfield, there you have less things to do but better roleplaying and action and a fun ship builder.

Starfield is trash

I appreciate the work they put into the game, but it's way too grindy and monotone for me. It's like the boring part of Starfield.

It isn’t a game for everyone because there’s no instant gratification that a lot of gamers crave nowadays. It’s a game for those with patience and imagination, who are happy to pursue their own paths and goals.

I genuinely don’t have the time to lose myself in this game anymore (though I will undoubtably spend a few enjoyable hours checking out this update), but I’m never less than staggered by the amount of love the devs have poured into this game.

The problem with this game is that there are MANY things you CAN do, but pretty much NOTHING you NEED to do.

This is why I dislike sandbox games. NMS is legit great, IF you have the mindset of a Minecraft enjoyer.

Only the best one, Elite

Elite, and i'm speaking as an OG backer with the $300 package that got me into alpha and all future DLCs, misses the mark with billions of stars / planets. Its ocean wide but an inch deep. Even Starfield to an extent even though its much smaller. Even if it is like "real life", if we could explore like these games, it would become boring in real-life too. Especially Elite Dangerous which is grounded in reality. Do you stop and look at every rocks in your backyard? They are fascinating for a short period of time and then you realize that the gameplay does not match the scope of having these billions of procedural planets.

NMS especially is a contradiction in itself, explore but... base building and be sedentary for long periods of the game? I've tried at least half a dozen time to like this game but it doesn't click with me. I think all space games aiming for these billion numbers are missing something. I tried them all.

So basically, no. They still havent added dead planets. There are 200 BILLION of them in just our galaxy, not even counting the others. I know why. Their randomly generated system can only make shitty looking biomes.

I think at this point I will just wait for Light No Fire. I tried No Man's Sky at launch and then a few years later with one of the big updates and it just struggles to keep my attention despite having some really neat ideas.

I respect the devs for the amount of effort they've put in to turn this game around. I really wish I could get into it. I've tried 3 times, but I always get bored the first hour and log off. I see videos of people playing further on and it looks exactly like something I want to play, just the start is something that's never hooked me enough to give this game an honest chance. Every one of these big updates I try again. Maybe 4th time is the charm.
