No Man's Sky: Plenty to do, but no real reason to do any of it. That’s the final piece of the puzzle they need to add before wrapping up updates.

Do processing structures still delete all of their contents if you walk away from them?
That's been what's led me to uninstall every time in the past.

My favorite part of NMS update threads are the people who come in and complain about an older version and then ask for features that they don't know are already in the game.

Anywhere else this would be considered some form of trolling or would be made fun of.
What is the multiplayer experience like today?

There's nothing but admiration you can give these guys, to support this game for along with ongoing massive free updates. I have tried a few times to get into it over the years after buying Day 1, I just can't. But still, mad respect.

But there are reasons for everything. Compare it to Minecraft. There you build because you like to build or to survive the night and wild life and weather and you explore to find cooler places to build or to find resources to build better things and you progress to reach the end.

No Man’s Sky basically does the same thing but has so many other mechanics and systems in place too. There is no Nether but there are stars you can’t reach without the right equipment and there is a main quest to follow and end game scenario to reach and npc stories to unravel. There are many reasons to progress imo.

I just think people in general are unaware of what can be done in this game. Maybe because it’s so open-ended. Might be too much to take in, to many different gameplay systems to dig into, there is a fair amount of depth in everything.

Personally I play to explore and find cool planets and to build bases and get cool ships and gear. I finished the main quest so many times that it’s no priority anymore. Never reached the center of the universe so that’s still a thing I want to do at some point. I’ve played many many hundred hours. I also play Starfield for very similar reasons but there a pull is the roleplaying and combat. Both are among my favorites, if they would be combined you’d essentially get my ultimate game, just get some Elden Ring in there as well for exploration payoff. No Man’s Elden Starfield Ring, 11/10 😀👌

For me it would be 'No Man's Last Xenoblade Death Guardian of the Colossus Stranding'. There is plenty of boredom to be found for most people in that :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It's hilarious how many people come into NMS update threads to inform all of us that the game is indeed utter trash, even after almost ten years and over 30 named updates that brought so much variety and possibilities to the game... Many of which I don't even mind but am glad are there for people that do. And all of them for free after Initial purchase, even if you bought the game for 5€ used.
And still people claim there is nothing 'to do' in this game. There are people who play Candy Crush every day or some multiplayer shooter for years or even decades on end...your mission: shoot people, preferably in the head :messenger_sleeping: and now I try to Imagine myselt going into a call of duty thread and declare - objectively - that CoD is just trash.

I get it if the game isn't for you, there's so many games out there that maybe are that you don't need NMS. For me, this game is one of the greatest.
This update seems to up the variety and generation on display a lot, I will definitely check it out and explore a couple dozen hours more... In the boring, lonely vastness of space where i can find a cozy planet, stand on a mountain top, look at the scenery and just be satisfied. Only to get a new ship, search for another planet with different colours, terrain and flora/fauna only to do it again and again and again. And now I can finally realize my dream of a base deep in the sea when before the oceans were only a couple dozen meters deep. What a trash game indeed. :messenger_sunglasses:

Tried playing this game several times. Ironically I made it a lot further in the game at launch of 1.0. Now.. I dunno. I tried playing it again a few months ago after the last big patch and it just... doesn't feel good. I just found it to be immensely lonely and boring.

I liked it even at launch, don’t think I need to say much else 🫣

Linear games on the other hand… If the story is good or the action is great I might reach the end but I play them once and never touch them again. 10-30 hours. Done! Next! Worth $70? hmmm

They've had dead worlds for a while now.

Yeah, the planets with no atmosphere which drains your life support more quickly.

However, years ago planets could occasionally only have flora but lack animals. That hasn't been the case for awhile, although I haven't played this new update yet.

I'm kind of surprised they keep doing these massive Universe resets. I figured they were done with that several years ago. I will wait a bit before trying the update because usually the game has numerous glitches/crashes for a couple weeks until it is fixed.

Hopefully my main base is still on a Paradise planet.

I actually love that explanation and totally understand why I don't like NMS now. I never liked Minecraft.
I see my kids play Minecraft every day so to be honest I’m a bit tired of it… But I still think it’s great. It’s peak creativity gameplay, just calling it digital LEGO is an insult, the stuff you can do with red stone makes me think Notch was a genious.

No Man’s Sky does many of the core things Minecraft does but it’s not there yet to compete with red stone machinery. Still, the base building is amazing and they’ve added so many layers of complexity and design possibilities since the beginning.

Yeah, me too. It's on #1 in my top ten since then, so for some i might be mentally challenged, I don't know :messenger_grinning_sweat:
The feeling of exploring this vast universe is something no other game can give me. The complexity of the procedural systems... is there another game at this scale that does this?
I always prefered open worlds but with stories, not usually a sandbox or survival player and I don't like base building...so a lot of the updates NMS recieved weren't for me. But still, the amount of hours I just explored and felt captivated by being in this universe...Just being there....I absolutely understand that this is too boring or not enough for most people. But I'm used to being the odd one out.
First time I heard there was a game where you 'just fight 16 end bosses and thats it' I had to look for it. And that too was my #1 for a couple of years.
