Beat Uncharted 4: A Thief's End today. I don't know how to rate this one because I loved Uncharted 1 & 2 and replayed them multiple times, and enjoyed 3 (but never replayed it). It's been a long time since I played those (2011) so I can't compare the set pieces and shoot outs.

In my mind, there are three really big exciting moments in Uncharted 4 that I will remember. In terms of graphics, sound, voice acting, etc I'd give it a 5/5, but in terms of fun factor I'd give it a bit lower. There is a lot of climbing. I don't think I will ever replay it though. I think 3/5

I'm looking forward to jumping in here but I would feel a bit cheap jumping in and talking about Tales of Arise. I got a PS Store voucher for Christmas from my sis, so It's not a backlog game. Fun game tho, I'm really enjoying it after 30+ hours so far.

After spending like 6 weeks on this pretty short game due to it being a co-op game, me and a friend finally finished It Takes Two yesterday. This just oozes creativity everywhere you go. Extremely fun game. The only complaint I have is that the dialogue and cutscenes can get a bit tiresome in verious places, as for the gameplay, I'm having a hard time to think of any. I wasn't a huge fan of the train and boat sections in Jenny's Room, nor the isometric magician segments of the room either. But those are fairly small nitpicks.

This is a good writeup and I actually quite agree. 4 looks really good, the voice acting is top notch, and the animation is good. But it left me pretty cold. I love the first 3 Uncharted games and have replayed them each once, but I don't think I'll be replaying 4...

So I am done with my playthrough of Sekiro : Shadows Die Twice. After 49h, I think I have done almost everything possible (sidequest, bosses, upgrade...).
I like it much much more than my first time. I think knowing already the game really helps to enjoy the combat system. And I have to say I am really addicted to it now.
Funnily, I think the complaints I had on my first run are still valid :

• The basic mechanics, deflect (L1) and attack (R1) are too powerful and you can pretty much L1/R1 all along the game (not mindlessly of course)
• Experimenting with Prosthetics to vary the combat is kind of discourage for a new player since you have to farm emblems to use them. (It's what made me use them very sparely the first time)

Anyway, I'll keep my thoughts for my next post when I am done with it. Because yes, I am not done ! I have already started a NG+ and I want to sink some hours in the boss rush mode. I already sink some hours in "Reflection" on this run. I am tempted to go for Platinum but this would requires another run after this NG+ so... I'll see if I am still motivated after this one.

Great work! I tried to get into Sekiro last year. I have beaten hard games in the past (Soulsborne, Ninja Gaiden Black + II, Devil May Cry 3 original release) but I can't make Sekiro click for me. I died so many times that I gave up. Same with Nioh

I get you. I beat Sekiro on release but I kind of forced myself toward the end. Couldn't get into the combat or the world.
Now with the knowledge of my first experience, it was much more fun to do some stylish combat and I could immerse myself into the world. Compare to Soulsborne games, Sekiro is really about challenge and punishing the player and it was one of the reason I didn't like it.

Same with Nioh for me. Went halfway but drop it, I could get into the combat or the world. And then there was the repetition of map stuff...

1. Little Nightmares II (PS4)

I really wanted to like this game more than I did. It has a great atmosphere, well-designed puzzles and a good pacing.

But... I found the platforming really unresponsive and inconsistent. Also, most of the enemy encounters were reliant on trial & error. Dying for the sake of dying so you know what not to do next time.

Overall, I enjoyed it but it could've been much better in my opinion.

Just finished God of War (2018). I actually didn't like it when I first played it. Came back to it and it clicked. I see why this might be considered game of the generation, it practically had everything - great graphics and sound, compelling story and fun combat. I am a fan of the franchise now and intend to play the older games. 4.5/5. Up next are Spiderman and The Last Guardian Shadow of the Colossus.

5. Tomb Raider (2013)(PC) | 11th Jan - 9hrs
I enjoyed this game the second go. I realized I just had to relax and enjoy the ride. To be real though, I thought I was in Reach with all my buddies dropping one by one.

6. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)(PC) | 12th Jan - 6hrs
The only Battlefront I had yet to play. Crazy that it was released only a year after 1. It's fantastic, too. Quelling rebellions is good fun, especially when the Empire's theme kicks in.

7. Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC) | 14th Jan - 10hrs
I didn't like the story nor the new upgrade/crafting system's UI, but still enjoyed it for its beautiful presentation and smooth gameplay.

8. Unreal Tournament 3: Black Edition (PC) | 17th Jan - 7hrs
Had fun but it feels slow for UT. Also, the campaign leaning so much into Warfare mode made it sort of suck.

9. UnMetal (PC) | 18th Jan - 10hrs
Loved it at first. Great humor and fun gameplay, but long trial and error fail-state segments (even in some dialogue) became very tiring to play through.

10. Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PC) | 20th Jan - 9hrs
It's absolutely gorgeous. Great use of color throughout. The skills are mostly useless, but the game is fun and over the top. It also turns into a horror game for a moment.


It was fun to go through the TR survival trilogy after giving TR2013 a shot again. I mostly mainlined the second and third which made them more enjoyable. I get rid of the bloat the games have, while also feeling a little less powerful in the playthroughs. I also really wish I had played SWBF1 and 2 when they were new. It's the type of arcade style shooter I love. I'll make another post at the end of the month with the backlog progress. The 52 game challenge gives me an extra push to keep playing. I figure I'll get a bunch done before the weather gets nice, because I know in summer I will be outside as much as possible.

TLDR: dropped The Last Guardian and Shadow of the Colossus.

Soooo I started The Last Guardian. Played for an hour or so and got put off by annoying mechanics. So I turned to the internet, and I read a review that basically said: if you liked Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, you should play The Last Guardian. So I put The Last Guardian on the shelf and started Shadow of the Colossus instead.

I actually have history with SotC. I played it on PS2 in like 2010. This time I played to the third Colossi and put it down. I don't feel like playing it again, and The Last Guardian is frustrating. To be fair, I think SotC remake is amazing. The graphics are practically perfect imo. These are both going under DNC (did not complete) on my list. I'm a few hours into Marvel's Spider-Man, and while I think it is a well made game, I'm just not a big Spider-Man fan. I got the game for free with my PS4 Pro so I'm not bummed if I drop it.

Yeah don't get me wrong, the Shadow of Colossus remake is actually really good. The presentation is flawless. I'm just not feeling it. I probably should have done more research on The Last Guardian. I'm glad I tried it though.

Might plough through Spider-Man. I'll pick it up again in a couple days and decide. Just got a few games on the Xbox Backwards compatible sale too.

2. Wolfenstein II: The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe (PS4)

The First DLC for Wolfenstein II. Short but sweet. I guess it's more of the same when it comes to the gameplay, but the different character (Joe) and motioncomic cutscenes give it a different flair. Joe has the ability to run through enemies and certain walls; really good stuff.

Also, the core gameplay of the rebooted Wolfestein games is still a blast.

I had a great time playing Volume 1 of The Freedom Chronicles.

3. Wolfenstein II: The Diaries of Agent Silent Death (PS4)

The second DLC for Wolfenstein II.This one is focused more on stealth instead of run & gun. It started out really cool. With a silent pistol crawling through ventilation shafts assassinating targets. But after a while first person stealth gets really annoying.

The last part of the DLC has the game throw a lot of different enemies at you at once which made it pretty furstrating. The solution was to kill the target and quickly run to the exit; which took me 30 retries to figure out lol.

I liked volume 2 quite a bit less thant volume 1 but there was still plenty to be enjoyed

4. A Way Out

Last night my girlfriend and I played through A Way Out. We played it as a couch co-op; two controllers and split screen.

I haven't had an experience like this for a long time. Working together to break out of prison was such a blast to play.

The game has a lot of variety; in puzzles but also in scenery. I thought it was just breaking out of prison, but that's only the beginning. You solve puzzles, row boats, drive cars, jump out of airplanes, cover your partner with a sniper rifle etc.

But... close to the end of the game there is a twist in the story that really bummed us out.

Though, as I'm typing this we are getting to ready to play it again but we'll switch as characters and will choose the other story options to see how it'll pan out.

A Way Out is a great co-op experience that I would recommend to anybody.

Dropped Marvel's Spider-Man. Don't know if I'll come back to it. Finished Horizon Zero Dawn - Frozen Wilds. Fairly short dlc with a main questline not as interesting as base game. Still worth playing if you liked HZD, it's just more of that. I'm ready for Forbidden West whenever I pick that up later on. The two main 2022 releases I'm going to purchase this year are Elden Ring and Gran Turismo 7.

I've moved house this weekend though, and I've been putting off playing Monster Hunter Rise as I wanted to play it in my new living room on the TV. I'm definitely expecting this game to be a prime fillet mignon Then it'll be on to Elden Ring.

Finished the main story of Mario Odyssey with 249 power moons. Was playing it with my two young kids since last summer. They still want to run around and the levels and gather more moons and coins to unlock costumes, but I'm done with it. Terrific game, so much diversity and originality in every world.

So I finished the NG+ (Charmless, demon's bell) of Sekiro. I kind of speedran it and did the short ending. I really enjoyed the bosses with these higher difficulties. I had a hard time on basic enemies and miniboss but it's because I wanted to go fast and didn't have the patience to deal with them. I was thinking to stop after that but I am 3 trophies away from the Platinum so I decided to go for a NG++ (still Charmless and demon's bell).

I'll take a bit more my time for this one. Skipping all the dialogues and story part was not a good experience on my NG+. I need to be immersed in a game's world to appreciate it.

Happy I gave this game another chance. I am really enjoying it now.

Finished Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne late last night. I have a lot of things to say, so lets start out

The good: Great atmosphere and visual aesthetics in most areas of the game, really fun and fast combat system (especially for it's time!) which still holds up. The music is really good and help sets the mood. So many cool boss fights where you have to really plan out going in. Really unique from your regular RPGs where romance and friendship is key to winning the day. This game is 100% nihilistic through and through. Amazing artwork I wanna buy the artbook for right now!

The bad: The dungeon design is fine in the beginning, but come the end of the game they start getting just needlessly frustrating with gimmick ideas just designed to troll the crap out of you. I had no problem watching guides and looking up the overall map for a lot of these, and you should not either. The fuse system is also pure pain in the original PS2 version which I played. When you fuse two or three demons together in the HD version, you can choose which skills from the two demons you want carried over to the new demon, in my PS2 version, the skills carried over are randomized, meaning you have next to no shot of getting all the skills you want carried over no matter how many attempts you make. I spent overall several hours getting the 3 most important skills i wanted for Daisoujou carried over, and almost an hour getting both Pierce and Prayer carried over to Metatron. And the former, Pierce is an absolute must for the final boss fight. Just like in Persona 4, the last boss fight is an insane difficulty spike where in your first time playing you have to go back and spend a lot of time fusing demons with the correct abilities to beat it, and you need to have Pierce on your MC. A skill absent from the entire game until the very end. There are also problems in knowing where to go next several times in the game. But thankfully, I used YT guides for this, and guides are something you really need in order to beat it.

The meh: The nihilism can get a bit too much. The story is also really confusing, and some of the dungeons have poor visual design (though I've heard that's far worse in most other games in the series). The game also overstays it's welcome once you take in to account all the time you're gonna be spending in the Amala Labyrinth which like the other late dungeons gets really obtuse at the end parts of it.

I overall liked it (despite the wall of text in 'The bad') due to the strong base game, but it's hard to recommend this to your average gamer. A lot of people will dislike this, and I don't blame them for that.

Sidenote: Everyone knows about the Matador meme. Well, those people never made it to the Trumpeter...

I beat the main game with Delsin. Actually twice, once with the "good" ending and the other with the "bad" ending (which was kind of sad from what I remember). Yea Fetch has neon powers. In First Light it's the only power you get but it's improved and expanded upon more. Kinda like how cole only had electricity in the first game but it was well developed (I haven't played infamous 2 yet).

Man I finished Second Son not long ago and the only thing I remember was what happened to his brother and the credits music (Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana). First Light you can knock out in like 4 hours, it's pretty short.

Anyway the randomization of powers when you merge two demons sounds like a royal pain in the ass. It sounds like it's a PS2 era game, so I'm surprised they designed it like that initially, seems like a vehicle for frustration.

Even though the themes of nihilism are fresh for you, does this still follow the good ol' anime trope of high school students saving the day?

Yea Fetch has neon powers. In First Light it's the only power you get but it's improved and expanded upon more. Kinda like how cole only had electricity in the first game but it was well developed (I haven't played infamous 2 yet).

Man I finished Second Son not long ago and the only thing I remember was what happened to his brother and the credits music (Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana). First Light you can knock out in like 4 hours, it's pretty short.

Like I said it's been incredibly long since I played inFamous Second Son, but I do remember a few things decently well:

- Cool (but relatively empty) rendition of Seattle
- Decently written Native American characters, although I thought the brother was better than Delsin, who at times could be annoying
- Decently cool concept for the villain -- she had a great ability that seemed kind of OP at first glance -- even if in the end her villainy fell short.
- For its time, GREAT graphics. A lot of color, and it was beautiful to see.

Yeah Augustine was a good villain. I never really used the concrete powers because once I beat the main story I didn't continue playing afterwards. Seattle was a neat idea, never been there myself, I know about the space needle though. The graphics must have been great, here I am playing it in 2022 and we've had Ghost of Tsushima by the same studio.

Thanks. Yeah, those console warrior threads are pretty tiresome. I barely read them. You only control only one high school student and in danger of spoiling too much, the end goal can definitely not be described as 'saving the day' in any capacity; Hence the '100% nihilistic through and through' remark. There are no heroes in this story.

I agree with your pros and cons. However, I played the remaster on PS4 so I didn't have any problems with the fusing demons + skills. I enjoyed the nihilism, themes and story of the game very much. Those were the best things about the game imo - True Demon Ending is awesome. Some of the dungeons are horrible and I also can see why some people wouldn't stick with the game.

As for me, just continuing to plow through Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. About 1/4 of the way through in the story. Characters, voice acting, animation, world building are all A+. Didn't think John Marston from the first game would be topped, but.... Arthur Morgan is amazing. My favorite video game protagonist in a long while. But (per the usual Rockstar way) combat sucks sweaty donkey balls, so I'm trying to adapt.

I have some work stuff that's ramping up (and upcoming vacation) which will slow my backlog burn for the next couple of weeks. But after mid February I'll be playing games at full capacity again.

Just saw the ending credits for Uncharted: Lost Legacy. I enjoyed it more than Uncharted 4. I think the UC games are better when they are set in one country only, and India was very well done in this game. The combat and puzzles are better than 4, and so is the pacing (praise the sun). Climbing wasn't as tedious either. Chloe and Nadine are good.

I'm near the end of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and I'll probably finish that one off tomorrow. I also have 37 power cells in Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy (there are 101 to collect in total). After that I will pick a long game as the ones I've been doing lately are all short.

Finished Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Great game brehs, much improved over Ratchet & Clank 2016. The weapons are better, the Clank puzzles are awesome, and two new characters are good - Rivet and Glitch. Just plain fun.

I have beaten 14 games (if you include the 3 I dropped) on my backlog this month, that must be a new record for me. I doubt I will finish Jak and Daxter before Feb. Will start Days Gone next, seems to be one of those love it or hate it games.
