No Zoo Keeper DS impressions?

Ok people where is the Zoo Keeper love? I know what to expect and what the game is like, but i wonder how the stylus control works! Useless, good, responsive, lots of delay? Which one is it. Also are there more modes than in the GBA version?

It's out in Japan, japanese impressions are good enough for me :) That's the only title that makes me want to buy the DS (and Sawaru). It's the new Tetris just that nobody noticed it yet.

Oh yeah. I was tempted to buy this & One Line Puzzle for $50 each last night when I placed my Driller / Wario order, but then I wised up.

I will get the US release for sure.

I'm currently addicted to the GBA version. So is my wife. We're kind of fighting over who gets to play it :O.

I just picked up my DS yesterday, and it really is the kind of game that would control even better with a stylus. I was about to import it but then I saw it was supposedly coming out this month in the US so I'll hold off.

At least then I can let my wife have the GBA one and I'll have the DS one :D

I skipped pre-ordering the Japanese one knowing that it was coming out here in a few short weeks.

I got One Line Puzzle, Band Brothers, and Wario this morning but haven't had much of a chance to try them out.

Short answer on BB is it seems far more dense than I would have imagined, and it'll probably take a bit before I get a real handle on it.

!!!!!

Can I please be back on your private AIM friends list!!!!!

Or at least post detailz on Band Bros pllllllleaassse!

I'm back on the same AIM name as I used to be.

Crazy busy in the office right now (with all 3 games giving me the hairy eye, wanting desperately to be played), but I'll be around later on tonight and will be giving all the full run-through.

Tell me about it. The one tiny thing that itches me a bit is that sometimes when everything is shaking and you notice the missing combo in literally the last second it takes too long to move the cursor. I guess the stylus could do wonders here. Still tell me about the modes people and how the game feels! I need to know :)

Apparently the US version won't come with Panda heads. Sorry, rushed launch, they had to get it out in a month. I hope you can recover mumu.

speevy posted a facetious post and you guys are off with it on that Nintendo thing. Nintendo didn't even make it. I understand the sardonic/sarcastic nature of GAF but is this needed? ZK is incredibly fun on the website - I wouldn't mind buying it myself but not for $50. Really need to hear more about how they expanded that game from a flash title to a $50 portable game with options/unlockables/versus... etc etc.

You really need to read impressions on this one before purchase. Its one of the few titles that would work 100% with the touch screen because of the game design

JOHNTV... have you played your copy yet? :)

You can unlock bunnies!! Does the flash version have bunnies? :)

played drunken Zoo Keeper last night - being able to tap and move the animals with the stylus is fantastic and means that you can react quicker.

Didn't really concentrate on what modes were in there, but as a big Zoo fan, it definitely got the thumbs up from my short play.

I actually wonder if the US version will have mini-hitler. Surely sth. is gonna be missing.

It seems to have the same modes as the GBA version - normal, tokoton, time attack, etc.
The play is so much smoother with the stylus, you end up flicking the animals around effortlessly, and it's much more efficient in crisis situations. You can also keep moving animals while combos are going off to save time.

Band Brothers, we tried playing at our weekly nomikai, but noone had a clue what to do. When I got home I had a go and it's pretty similar to Donkey Konga. Gameplay goes thus - you pick your song, then pick your part in a song, from 8 instruments, each with a different difficulty level. The music scrolls up the screen with a couple of bars on each line, about 3 or 4 lines on display at once. Button presses are either "d-pad" "a/b/x/y" or "touch" - so three choices. For the buttons, you hold them down until the instrument bar reaches and end, but the "touch" parts are like fills, so you tap them once and a special part is played in that part of the song - if you're worried about getting thumbprints on your screen, the touch parts are difficult. The music is really well done - the J-pop tunes are much better than I expected. I ended up playing L'arc~en~ciel's Ready Steady Go. When all the players figure it out, a multiplayer game will be awesome, I am sure.

Johnny - I'm especially interested in the mode that lets you compose your own stuff. Does it let you pick from the instruments, rhythms, etc from every other track? Any truth to the rumor that you can record your own samples with the little mic? And when you're done, can you play your self-made tracks with other players in the multiplayer mode? Also, how many tracks does it let you save? :D

Sorry to hit you with a barrage, but there are many things I'm dying to know about the game. I could become completely obsessed with a make-yer-own-trax bemani style game, especially if the Nintendo-y steel drums and whatnot are available. I'm really hoping that mode turned out well.

Kinda sucks in a way that Band Bros is a launch title. Regardless of whether it's a great game, it'll undoubtedly be lost in the crowd.

Well that sounds just like the GBA version, except with stylus control. So basically perfect! :) Is it still pretty much all in english except for the quest mode?

And what's with that other puzzle game, the one where you have to draw lines?

Good thing Zoo Keeper hits the US in a few weeks. It's the only puzzle game I'm looking forward to on the platform. I can't wait to get my copy of BB and Hitofude.

I'll have to get back to you on the recording mode, I haven't touched that yet.

The line-drawing puzzle game, Hitofude, is pretty good, but I only played the demo at the Touch! show so far. There are too many good launch titles to play them all at once. Haven't even touched Sawaru Made in Wario yet either!

Damnnn, make sure to post some impressions! I'm personally interested in the Band Brothers and One Line Puzzle.(I'm already positive that Wario will be excellent.)

Man, I'm going to have to import Band Brothers now. I didn't know it has JPOP/Anime themes as well, until Jonnyram mentioned it. I looked up the partial song list and saw a couple of songs that really makes me wanna get it (Kirari Sailor Dream from Live Action Sailor Moon, and Melissa from Full Metal Alchemist). Being one of the few region free music games. :P Plus the single card multi. I don't think I'll have a problem with this game if I import it.

Plus I saw this video of it below of people playing a full game of multiplayer to Melissa and found myself singing along. My sister and I would have a blast with this.

But to make sure, is it an import friendly game, or is it heavy on the text in areas? I fyou don't mind answering that, Jonnyram.

Sorry, I should point out that what I described was Beginner Mode. There is an Amateur mode and Pro mode too, presumably they more complex button pressing than just d-pad or A/B/X/Y - as can be seen in the video above.

It doesn't seem hard to pick up without reading what's going on either... basically you just need to know how to traverse the menus and how to play the game. Everything else should be fine.

Oh awesome, that's great to hear. Sounds like an awesome title then. I'll definitely import it. Thanks for all the impressions Jonny and DC.

Played Zoo Keeper more at lunch time. The Quest mode is a lot more expanded than the GBA game. There is more variety in the requests, and you get a salary for each one. If you perform badly, your total salary gets reduced by the Hitler guy too. It's pretty funny.

As I mentioned before, you can move animals while a combo is going off. Actually this allows you to keep a combo going longer - if you start another combo going while one is in motion, it all counts as one combo. You can rack up crazy scores this way.

so at what point was this game delayed? It was supposed to come out this week but now ebgames and gamestop both say middle of Jan. Dammit, I have the money and was ready to go out and buy it when I checked the date, just to be sure, and it said Jan 17th. argh! I need something to play other than mario.

So did the US version of Zoo Keeper come out on the 17th? Anyone get it yet?

I'm still waiting for it to arrive to Lik-Sang, where I have my second DS preordered in the same package.

One-cart wireless multiplay with my wife, family fun :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you're actually spending money on this game you need to have your head examined. You can play Bejewled for free at MSN Games. It's the same fucking thing.

With stylus in a bus no you can't. Zoo Keeper DS is fantastic.

But with a mouse and any computer in the known universe, yes you can. Bejewled has been around forever. Hell, even my cell phone has it. Watching people here at GAF getting excited about Zoo Keeper is like watching my grandmother being completely dazzled about her computer having Solitare on it.

Bejeweled is crap. It's all about the Zoo Keeper. Besides, can you play 2 player vs on Bejeweled? Is there a quest mode where you get beat down by a Hitler-dude for not clearing up the animals properly? Come on, Bejeweled is free, and it looks and plays like freeware. Zoo Keeper is refined and has quality written all over it.

I'm sorry, but it's a whole different world sorting cute pandas and giraffes instead of pushing around boring jewels.

So, any impressions of the US version yet? How's the story mode - the developers claim it has a "highly relevant plot involving an actual zoo keeper", so I can't wait :D

My copy shipped yesterday, but it's coming to the UK from canada so I don't expect it until seven days or so. I'd be keen to hear impressions.

Obviously I'm in the wrong line of work. I should be repackaging freeware over and over and selling it to you people time and time again. Just slap a cartoon panda or elf on the box and I'll have you waiting in line to hand me your cash.

Zoo Keeper is a fun puzzle game for me to play when I'm waiting for my train, or when I'm travelling. Also, the visuals are fun and stylish, which improves the experience for me. You've made your point, but its irrelevent. Would you be harping on (and on, and on...) if they were releasing Tetris for the DS?
