you have been in socal way too long...

what does that mean?

I think you assume too much, I've actually lived in Hong Kong before as well.

Santoka>Shinsengumi

I would try that place if it wasn't all the way in LA. I'm too lazy to drive that far with gas being expensive these days. Shinsengumi is just a few minutes for me while Santouka would probably be a 20 minute drive at least.

They have ones in Torrance and Costa Mesa as well.

shio ramen=nom nom nom

and i think shinsengumi's more expensive too

Love these sorts of instant ramen, soba, etc. but when I read the sodium content, I have to put it back on the shelf. These days I just can't do it :(

Wow, 88 cents at Wal Mart and by far the best instant ramen noodles I've ever had. Nice and spicy too, sturdy styrofoam bowl. But it's the actual noodles that are so tasty.

Do these have any meat, or meat products in them?

Oh man, why did I open this thread? I brought lunch, but since I work so close to the WLA Santouka, I think I'm just going to go there instead. And stock up on bowl ramen from Mitsuwa while I'm there.

Ah noodles in soup -- why are you so delicious?

BTW, the awesome pho place in Alhambra is called Pho 79 I believe, not 99. It's a little south of the movie theater.

Santouka's is too greasy. It's just all fat, and no extra noodles. Also, it's not very filling either, so in the end, Shin Sen Gumi ends up being cheaper.

Shin Sen Gumi is definitely king.

Illinois has a Santouka at the Mitsuwa. Very popular since there are barely any ramen shops around here.

Good news oxtailsoup, it DOES have beef products in it. So it kinda sorta makes it an oxtail noodle soup.
(eating a yummy bowl nong shim spicy chicken)

CORRECTAMUNDO.

Fry up some dumplings and stir them in with the noodles, that shit is wild.

I like Teumsae Ramyun for really spicy shit, even if it is face-burning spicy.

i had customers at my restaurant leave that business card - "you have been yelped". i thought it was a local thing...

hah I see, well I like the site because it helps to bring business to local restaurants that may be good but most people don't wanna risk their $10 and not enjoy it when they can go somewhere they know or many people they know about and has a reputation as well.

It's helped me find many local places that I now frequent. I do not swear by it religiously but it helps to know whats is a local favorite in the area.

I've never had nong shim. I'm sure they don't sell it in Japan, so that's not suprising.

and hakata ramen sucks. boo tonkontsu :/

I love sapporo ramen

and pho.

the best thing ever is tom yam kun ramen with rice noodles! :o........

to OP,

you do realize that ramen and especially styrofoam-readied ramen is the equivalent nutrition of eating a Big Mac with extra extra salt and just as full of taste [read: none at all], do you?

The Nong Shim bowls have around 350 calories and 10 grams of fat.
A Big Mac has 540 calories and 29 grams of fat.

There is about 100% of your daily sodium intake, but you can avoid most of that if just eat the noodles and don't drink the soup.

Nong Shim's Udon Bowl is the best instant noodle ever.

jstyle.udon.2.jpg

For $2.50, you can get a bowl of udon that's just about as good as any udon you can get at most Japanese restaurants.

What's the red and white stuff that looks like sliced radishes? I see small peices of that in their other noodles. I've really no idea what it is and I wont eat it.

They're slices of totally synthetic fish cake. I don't know if there's actually fish in them but they certainly don't taste like fish. Imagine them as spam...but Japanese and uh...wannabe fish?

The "fresh" ones you get at the market are good. I imagine meat of the future (when we all live in space ships) would pretty much taste like that.
