North Korea Threatens Missile Strike on Guam (a United States Territory)

Where are all the people from the previous thread that said that war isn't needed and that we are crazy for suggesting it?

Nobody is advocating any kind of nuclear war but the time for appeasement is over. We (the broader international community) need to get this shit under control. It's been allowed to continue for too long and is literally about to blow up in our faces.

I hate war of any kind but unfortunately sometimes it's necessary. This family have enslaved an entire nation and are constantly threatening neighbouring counties. Enough is enough now.

Is this a post about Iraq from 2002 or?

We last saw how well "to get this shit under control" shit with Iraq. In reality they were no threat, and millions of people died, and the US made a lot of enemies in the process. Using force will create a situation that will put the whole region on incredible stress. Creating an eastern Asia refugee crisis and several economical collapses.

Everyone posting as if Trump holds the key to the military. Lmao. It doesn't work that way. It never has. Jesus people stop drinking the koolaid.

This is in the hands of Mathis and his 100 plus advisors in the Pentagon. If they say it's time to strike. Then it will be. Plain and simple, same as it ever was.

Spoken like someone who has never been in or around the military. I assume you're basing this assumption off the ridiculous Transgender policy Trump tried dictating over Twitter but there's a marked difference between getting involved in agency personnel decisions and issuing direct action orders.

Trump is Commander-in-Chief, his orders are final. Mattis has no overriding vote, either he does what the Commander-in-Chief orders or he gets replaced. His Joint Chiefs and all top level Generals and Admirals can advise - they can even question the orders - but once Trump issues his orders they either follow them or are dismissed. Congress is about the only institution with the authority to stop the President from all out war, but that's only if they feel compelled to enforce the War Powers Resolution of 1973.

The chain of command in the military is everything and unless the Joint Chiefs can prove Trump is issuing an illegal order they are duty (and law) bound to obey it.

I look into my crystal ball and I see you, three years from now, complaining about the $1+ trillion dollar cost, multiple refugee crises, and regional instability due to the reunification of North and South Korea.

Wat?

Get a grip dude.

I live in Nagasaki, which is on the west coast of Japan, which is where most of their missile tests end up.

I'm getting very nervous about this.

Coincidentally, it's also Peace day in Japan today, the day to mark the atomic bomb.
Aren't they landing in the Sea of Japan near Akita?

Hey, remember that time Nixon ordered a nuke on North Korea, and the chain of command collectively agreed to ignore it?

http://www.businessinsider.com/drunk-richard-nixon-nuke-north-korea-2017-1

But in April 1969, mere months into the first Nixon Administration, Nixon's internationalist savvy was still unproven. That's when North Korea shot down an EC-121 spy plane over the Sea of Japan. Nixon was furious.

A July 2010 story on NPR featured remarks from Bruce Charles, an Air Force pilot based in Kunsan, South Korea at the time. He recalled being put on alert to carry out his part of the SIOP, the Single Integrated Operational Plan - the U.S. nuclear strike plan for war with the Communists.

Charles was put on alert to drop a 330-kiloton nuke on a North Korean airstrip.

Eventually, the order to stand down was given, and Charles returned to his regular duties. According to the official accounts, Nixon and his advisors mulled over how to respond. In the end, the President opted not to retaliate.

It's worth speculating that Nixon would have wanted the Communists to believe he actually considered a nuclear strike. In the coming years, the President would even send nuclear-armed bombers toward the Soviet Union while spreading the rumor that he was so insane, he might really trigger World War III.

Of course, he wasn't insane. And thanks to a 2000 book by Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, we know he was just drunk. Not with power, but with booze.

George Carver, a CIA Vietnam specialist at the time of the EC-121 shootdown, is reported to have said that Nixon became "incensed" when he found out about the EC-121. The President got on the phone with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and ordered plans for a tactical nuclear strike and recommendations for targets.

Henry Kissinger, National Security Advisor for Nixon at the time, also got on the phone to the Joint Chiefs and got them to agree to stand down on that order until Nixon woke up sober the next morning.

According to Summers and Swan's book "The Arrogance Of Power: The Secret World Of Richard Nixon," Kissinger is reported to have told aides on multiple occasions that if the President had his way, there would have been a new nuclear war every week.

Could you guys like, not break North Korea?

If you do, you better have a plan for 20+ million refugees because nobody in Asia wants to clean up that shit.

After everything they've done in the middle east i think it's fair to say americans couldn't care less about refugees.

This is fucking terrifying! Anyone naive enough to think nothing will happen doesn't know how stupid and unpredictable these two are. Trump pretty much has agitated them into action to force a war or even worse.

Your username is quite apt.

Tell this to the millions of people in Seoul who would be wiped out before a single bomb hit Pyongyang.

If war were declared it'll turn nuclear in a heartbeat because NK would rather ensure MAD than just let the US win.
how good is DPRK's targeting?

can they hit exactly where they want?
They don't really need it to fling a nuke or three a few miles at their border with SK.

Even if they can't hit anything belonging to the US with their nukes, thousands will die regardless if hostilities spark.

North Korea has thousands of traditional artillery pieces within shelling distance of the biggest city in South Korea.
