OSLO (AFP) - Striptease is an art and should therefore be exempt from value-added tax (VAT), a Norwegian court has ruled.

The Diamond Go Go Bar in Oslo took the Norwegian state to court after it tried to impose VAT on entry fees to the club.

But in the Oslo district court's verdict, a copy of which was obtained by AFP on Wednesday, the judge ruled that striptease performances should benefit from the VAT exemption granted to opera, ballet and theatre performances among others.

Value Added Tax. If strippers in a bar aren't adding value, I don't know what is.

Although by the same token, Opera, theatre etc should incur VAT. Its just a stupid loophole to legitimise state subsidy I guess.

I agree that striptease is art.. but not because I'm a perv or anything (well actually I am), but because practically anything can be viewed as art, and rightfully so (IMO).

I could take a shit in my hand, throw it against a wall covered with gorilla babies, and take a picture of it.. and it's art! Not that there's anything wrong with that, even if this picture I've created in my mind is quite disturbing..
