Not impressed with KFC

Not everyone has a Popeye's guys...

I didn't until recently, and yes Popeye's chicken itself is awesome, but KFC sides are better bar none, except that damned raspberry creme pie, and then they took it away :(

The KFC chicken pieces are nice whenever I go to my local KFC. Always plenty of chicken on them. They are usually a mixture of drumsticks and thighs.

When I was fat I would get the strips, mashed potatoes & gravy, mac & cheese, ranch dipping sauce, with the biscuit.

It was a good meal.

Reading this makes me feel very sad for some reason. It's going to bother me for the rest of the day, that "It was a good meal." part at the end.

I love fried chicken. It's not my vice or anything. I don't need it. But I'd say I like it as much as most Americans do.

Despite its popularity and numerous locations, I can count how many times I've been to KFC on one hand. Not really sure why. Just one of those things guess.

Seeing as how the girlfriend and I live across the street from a KFC, I decided we'd make the short trek as we were getting hungry and had no food on hand. Upon entering the drive-thru, we were legitimately confounded at the menu. It just didn't make sense to us for some reason. Almost everything on the menu was for several people. There were two cars behind us at this point. I had to actually get out of line and go to the back of the line because we had no idea what to order. I've never had to do that before (this is mostly my fault, but the menu still sucks). .

But yeah, this is why I only eat strips at KFC. And because they're my delicious remedy for nasal congestion.

7 and 15% meat? May I ask what the actual pieces were, I'm guessing wing and... wing?

I've had bad KFC before, near my hometown there are 2 and the one should be avoided at all costs, but the other is good. May I also ask what time of day, it was? If we're talking like 11pm at night, I'd expect the food to be crappy.

I admit, just about all fast food, KFC included, tastes like too much sodium. Their pieces should definitely have more meat on them than that, though. Any chance you pissed off the employees and they gave you the shitty pieces on purpose?

The small piece was a wing piece (not sure what section). The second piece might have been a breast quarter. Not sure. I just now there was a LOT of bones in it. Like it was genetically modified to have extra bones.

As for pissing them off. Not a chance. I'm always very courteous to food and retail people as I've been there before. I will say, however, that most of the people that work fast-food in the area of my apartment don't care at all about making the customer happy or about doing a good job. There's zero accountability.

I once ate KFC in Amsterdam and I couldn't make out what part of the chicken each piece was. Like the muscle structure and everything else made no sense at all and many bones were twisted and bent in an unnatural fashion. Like what the hell did those chickens look when they were still alive?

I've been told by a few people that KFC in the Caribbean is actually good. I've never been, but apparently there's a KFC franchisee in Trinidad that's like no other.

Popeyes is my favorite chicken. If I could make them buy-out the recipe for Cane's sauce, it'd be chicken perfection.

(And not some attempt at imitating Cane's sauce.. all imitations I've tried have resulted in me experiencing an Uncanney Valley reaction: the attempted imitation was close, but the tiny differences were unsettling and annoying.)

OP, I think it was just a bad experience...

I spent $22 at a KFC recently because my then-pregnant wife needed it. The amount of food we got - bones COVERED in meat - was unbelievable.

Yeah, I think you're right. All the places around here are absolutely terrible. I had to stop going to the nearest Taco Bell because they got my order wrong almost every single time I went there.

Bojangles and Zaxby's are far superior (yay for Southern fast food). Was not impressed by Popeye's the one time I went. May have to make a trip over there some time this week.

I do like KFC's wings though. They're a nice indulgence every once in a while. Wedges are great as well.

Normally I hate that but once at Taco Bell I discovered the god tier cheesy gordita crunch because they messed up my order

I've been to KFC twice that I remember.

The first was in Gettysburg on a class trip. It seemed kind of surreal for some reason. Like, here's where Lincoln gave a famous speech, and I'm eating goddamn KFC.

The second time was a year or so ago. I got a free pot pie since their register wasn't working.

When it comes to fast food, a lot has to do with timing. Was the flesh hot and skin crispy? Did the juices drip out as you tore into the chicken and dribble down your bottom lip? A fresh batch of fried chicken will always taste better than one that's been sitting in a warming oven, gradually drying out as the hours pass between the time it finished cooking and the end of the rush. Even a culinary favorite of mine, Popeye's chicken, tastes horrible when it's dry which is why I try to avoid days when they precook a lot of chicken in anticipation for big crowds (e.g. Tuesday leg/thigh deals) because it sits there under the heat lamp, drying out, it's meat turning to sawdust.

Been once to KFC, ordered some chicken burger. Ate it. found it nothing special and never returned.

No clue why people like it tho.
