I know what you're thinking of. It was only last year, IIRC, but I can't remember the thread. Part of it was that the he claimed to be in America as he was studying a CISCO course or some such.

Ah wells, that should get me a permanent ban right there, hopefully. A valuable lesson ! But that's ok, one doesn't need to "talk" about games to enjoy them.

You know, when I first found GAF I had never intended to post. I was just amazed at how often GAF had news before some of the major Video Game websites. Something got the better of me, and I felt like being social. Ah wells, never again, or perhaps again only much more tight lipped.

Anywho, I apologize for nothing. Nobody was hurt, lessons were learned, time was wasted. I Regret nothing, some talks were fun, some trolling was fun, and some posts on GAF were absolutely hilarious to read. All in all, GAF was fun, but nothing I'll miss. If I want, I'll just proxy my way here now and then, to go over some OT's and browse some news.

And now, you are left to wonder how many others wander the net, or GAF in specific, spewing all kinds of bullshit about who or what they are. The numbers are dizzying I imagine.

I will say though, I know for a fact that I am not the only AngelSoldier out there. So don't go hunting them all down, they didn't bother you or GAF for that matter.

Have to say, I sort of feel sorry of AngelSoldier. I think it's sort of weird the other poster brought that up despite it having no bearing on the thread, whether or not the OP was actually Japanese his question opened up a legitimate discussion.

Blackace still posts but very, very infrequently. He may have even stopped posting altogether by now. I don't completely understand why he was demised, but it wasn't pretty or a good way to go out it seems, regardless. I think he or some other mod hinted at it being more than just the NBA thing though.

I think Derrick being banned might just be one of the few bans of high profile GAFers ever I am happy about. I see a lot of people here saying he made a good point every once in a while, but in my experience it was always some really obvious stuff we all already knew too well. And when he did make those posts, they were swathed in cynicism and manure. I guess we don't see it often, but he really was a big part of a lot of destructive discussion in gaming and I can understand a ban for that. His spirit lives on in some 60FPS elitists on GAF though, who altogether are much more destructive to discussion than just Derrick was.

Isnt he still around? I've seen a few posts in gaming. I kinda miss doom_bringer and that weird thread about his sister.

But don't we all miss deadmeat? And opa with his mgs and silent hill threads? Hilarious times.
 
This is slightly off-topic, but a mention of Gaborn reminded me. A few years ago he made a thread about a very special person in his life. I thought about it one day and wanted to look through it again, but I can't remember the title. Furthermore, Gaborn was such a prolific poster that his threads-created page couldn't show all if them. Does anyone know the title of that thread?

OnkelC. I remember about 8 years ago, his food threads would be the biggest threads in Off Topic. Everyone got involved in them. We never had a Community section then.

And what happened to super artist m0dus?
 
Who was the guy who posted about how baffled/disgusted/appalled by the people in the laundromat (I think) he was in? I think he had a black and white avatar. All I remember is he posted using really condescending language and a photoshop someone did of his avatar sitting in leather chair at the laundromat.

Hear, hear. I really quite liked how Neogaf evolved from its early days too, even if it can be too overtly judgamental at times, but well... this is a forum focused on videogame criticism, afterall.

Btw, maybe my memory's a bit hazy, but didn't you renounce you were leaving GAF? There was a brief period a few years back when some notable members decided to up and leave at around the same time (Red Scarlet, Segata, Dragona, Ethelred).
 
Can't remember the name but it was a Scottish / English guy and a drunk (well talked about booze and drugs a lot), haven't seen him post here in a while.
 
Not quite the same thing you're asking, but I especially appreciated the mods Vennt & -jinx- as levelheaded fellows and wish them well wherever they are now.

False. Red Scarlet copied and pasted an entry from the ban record, stating the name, duration, and reasoning for a ban as provided to other mods. Costanza then used this knowledge of the ban reason to lord over somebody else and then the picture went south.

However, generally speaking, providing reasons for bans to people was never a serious problem prior to that.

I'd buy this. Derrick would bring up some good points, it's just that he never gave up and would go into hype threads to complain about the game everyone else in the thread is excited about.

I don't understand why he kept going into those Thief and Tomb Raider threads.
 
Does anyone have a link or two to any of Gaborn's threads? From reading all of the glowing and heart felt remembrances of him, I'd really like to see his awesomeness first hand.

He got bored. Quite a lot of BritGAF shifted over to using Whatsapp so we can be all homophobic / sexist / racist / ableist / accordionist / rheologist / exorcist / fabulist / dodecaphonist.

He still posts, but very infrequently.
 
I wonder how many people who are neogaf 'famous' get banned and then just make an alt account. People who like to fuck around like that tend to do that.


Sometimes I can see some of the meltdowns coming a mile away, and I wonder why the mods don't just nip it in the bud instead of letting it become some weird forum legend. The guy who fantasized about fucking a dolphin is still around.

I guess it's good entertainment value, but it never ends well.

That's strange. Did you try mousing over the search function at the top of the page, select advanced search? Then on the search page, on the left under user name type gaborn and then choose finds thread started by user.
