Now that I've beat MGS3, what to move on to next? I've got 3 choices..

Mercenaries, RE4, or Metroid Prime 2. All sound very appealing, and I want to play them all at some point, but I just don't know what would be the most pertinent and financially sound purchase at the moment. Thus the thread. Discuss.

I beated MGS3. My GOTY04.
I also beated MP2 and tried for a few hours Mercenaries.
Now I'm waiting for RE4 (im in Europe, I ordered it from Canada).

No dubts.
MP2 is nice but too similar to its predecessor imo. And too fuc***g difficult for my tastes.
Mercenaries is nice but it is the bad copy of GTA3. After a few hours i was tired of it.

Go for RE4. It seems a really awesome game.
Many people told me that one month ago it could be GOTY.

Tough choice to make. I'm the original Metroid whore, but I'd say go with RE4 for now. It's newer so there's more discussions going on about it right now. When you do dive into MP2, don't get sidetracked by anything else. It becomes that much harder to remember all the pathways if you don't dedicate yourself to it 100%.

I hate to diss Metroid Prime 2, but I just can't get into the game. I love the Metroid franchise. I replay the GBA games all the time. I enjoyed Metroid Prime. I'm trying to place what I don't like about MP2 and am having a hard time doing so. Maybe it has to do with the lame way Samus loses all her cool gear. The setup on how all her suit powers get stolen is so stupid. The enviroments are techincally better but I loved the look of the first game better. Perhaps I'm getting sick of the scanning. I may have tolerated it for Metroid Prime. Even though the scanning is faster in MP2 it has been somewhat more annoying to scan everything in this game over the first one. I think I may be getting sick of it. I'm starting to realize I'm liking games with a more cinematic presentation which tells the story through cool cut scenes with dialogue. MP2:E story telling (Of the little story I've seen) seems archaic in comparison.

Between RE4 and Mercenaries, I would say it is a toss up. Re4 is definitely a wild ride. Once the roller coaster gets going it doesn't seem like it stops. Very intense and tightly focused action game. Mercenaries is a bit more open. You can do things at your leisure. But when the action gets going things really heat up. It is open ended gameplay like GTA, but you get to blow more stuff up!

Metroid Prime 2 is awesome. I cut 3 days of classes and work and told my gf to come over a day later because I couldn't stop playing. Don't listen to the weaksauce guys here about the difficulty, all it takes is practice. And it's a nice diversion to play a game that is 95% pure gameplay instead of forcing you to watch throwaway story. Your brain and reflexes will be taxed, but you will come away with a big grin on your face.

The puzzles, bosses, and world are utter bliss. If you enjoy the franchise in the least, don't miss this one.

Mercenaries is very open-ended and time consuming. Probably RE4 first, then Mercs, simply because I get the idea RE4 is focused and direct... coming from MGS3 that'd be an easier switch I'd think.

RE4 only because forum freaks are likely to spoiler the whole thing for you in due time. Metroid Prime 2 is every bit as good, if not better, than RE4, but its a Metroid game and there's really no big story or spoilers to worry about there. Its a good story nonetheless, but a Metroid story is largely that of your own experience.

MP2 is more difficult than the original game. It starts around the difficulty of Thardus from MP and ramps up from there.

RE4 is just about as hard so far and very intense.

Hhhhrrrmmm..is Mercenaries something you could soak up on a rental?

With all the RE4 hype, I'm worried that if it is in fact as phenomenal as everyone alleges, that the other games might seem a bit of a letdown (especially MP2 considering it's essentially more of the same from the first game, which really benefitted from its freshness at the time it came out). Its like I want to save the big wow-fest for last...

You should. I just beat RE4 myself and have no desire to go through my gigantic backlog because I know that no game will live up to the experience I just had. So in deference to RE4's excellence, play Mercenaries, MP2:E, and then RE4.

That's assuming you want to play all 3. If you can only afford one at this point it's RE4 all the way. No contest. Mercenaries is the one to skip/rent out of that group, too.

No, Mercenaries is not something that you would be able to get the full experience from in a Rental... You end up renting it again down the line, and then again, and then you might as well have added it to your collection, cause it is a very fine game. If the fact that the game is sold out everywhere because of word of mouth isn't an indicator that it is worthy of a purchase.... then I don't know

No game has gripped me like Mercenaries has in a while. The wife is ready to divorce my ass cause of this game...

I can't say anything about MP2 as I haven't played it, but I picked up both Mercenaries and RE4 yesterday, and I'm definitely favouring RE4 right now. They're both good in their own rights, though, but RE4 is just amazing.

I would say RE4 just because its SO much better than prevoius games, whereas Prime 2 seems to be not that much of an evolution.
