Not really. If it sold 55k, then that's still a horrible number. It's just a psychological barrier, just like the 10k barrier in the japanese weekly sales.
I expect Borderland 2 numbers to be a little disappointing but it will be due to many people who bought console versions of the first one moved on to PC gaming.
That isn't nearly enough for Darksiders 2 right?
Peace Walker bombed with ~50K units. The God of War sequel sold unbelievably badly. No PSP games had charted since Dissidia the previous year. BbS did what it did because of the strength of the franchise alone, and DDD should have done better than it.
No Nintendo press release even with 3DS XL launch?
I guess Nintendo it's not happy.

Those numbers really seem kinda awful for a number 1 spot. THQ can't be happy.
Darksiders 2 is a complete betrayalton to fans of the first. I'm done with that series.

They only seem awful because they are awful. It's time for next gen and some games that blow peoples minds graphically.
I'm with you. I can't believe there isn't massive outrage at that fucking ending...
Microsoft can continue to use the "current generation" definition though hehe That would exclude the WiiU. But i'm not sure that they will continue to use this definition after WiiU is out to be honest.
You would have thought there would be a similar effect with Sleeping Dogs with the PC version being so superior, but the Steam stats on concurrents have been pretty small every time I've looked at it.
I don't think the casual masses are really going to be blown away by next gen as compared to previous leaps.
Somehow I don't think those #'s are what THQ were hoping for. Can't say I'll shed many tears if there's no DS3. Sad to see an awesome game like sleeping dogs not do so well :/

Ghost of Sparta didn't sell terribly. Still managed over a million worldwide, about a third of the previous game.

Uh huh, when bad shit happens to my other electronics, all my purchases don't die with it. Still being the only one that ties purchases to hardware paints them as clueless and out-of-touch as they actually are. Can't blame anyone for ignoring their e-shop.
Surprised that Transformers didn't sell better with its brand power. I imagine that it and Darksiders II will be slow burners, selling a lot more over the holiday. I'm still holding out for Darksiders II on Wii U, myself.
So DDD did about on par with BbS? Not so good...
You'll be wrong if the pre-order numbers are accurate.
All Next-Gen consoles should have been released this year. Microsoft and Sony are playing a dangerous game and tempting an industry crash by extending it out this long. At this point they are pretty much mirroring what Atari did by believing they don't need new consoles and pumping out crap games that are pretty much just pallet swaps of every other game. It's possible that the top selling individual SKU sold less than 160,000 this month, when is the last time that happened?
This situation reminds me of this article, the writer could see the future.

Yeah but how many of those will not be counted since they are from the steam 4 pack sale, or greenmangaming or psn or whatever? B2 might end up 2 behind madden with 900k in sales when in reality it might be coser to 2M.
I'm sorry to almost agree with an EA executive, but NPD is pretty irrelevant nowadays (his words, don't shoot me)
I don't lose my electronics... It is stupid that Nintendo doesn't have an account system yet, but when you lose your physical stuff nobody replaces that. Treat your stuff with respect. Even with other devices you still have to replace your device and any physical media you put in it. Nintendo will fix that problem after WiiU comes out.
I can't blame anyone for ignoring the e-shop for that reason, either. It's a legitimate complaint. But we don't know how many people didn't ignore the eshop and whether or not it's a significant number, yet.

It sold bad in the US.

Among a certain age group, portable gaming machines are as common as cell phones.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 Emerges as the Best-Selling Video Game of August
Even with only five days of reported data, Nintendo 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2 still had major impacts on the August video game market. The new hardware, which features 90 percent larger screens than the original Nintendo 3DS, and the new side-scrolling Mario adventure both launched on Aug. 19 and helped Nintendo achieve the following:
- Nintendo 3DS software sales increased by more than 68 percent over sales in July.
- Nintendo 3DS hardware sales increased by more than 36 percent over sales in July.
- The No. 1 and No. 2 top-selling software SKUs for the month are both exclusive to Nintendo 3DS. New Super Mario Bros. 2 sold more than 240,000 units to finish No. 1, and KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance] from Square Enix sold more than 180,000 copies to finish No. 2.
Software sells hardware, and no one sells either quite like Mario, said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of Americas executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. In addition to helping New Super Mario Bros. 2 get off to a great start, Nintendo 3DS XL is driving increased interest in titles such as Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Mario Kart 7. These games have been on the market for more than six months but provide a completely new experience on the larger screens. Combine these titles with the upcoming Paper Mario: Sticker Star and a robust list of third-party games, and Nintendo 3DS is poised to be high on holiday wish lists this year.

Damn. Didn't know Deus Ex sold that little. That game was fucking great.
