Think it's safe to say that barring some extreme pricing or groundbreaking new IP hit, Xbox One isn't catching up to the PS4 in the US

The lead could be close to 1 million + as we enter the holidays...I don't see MS selling 1 million more than PS4 anytime soon
Next month it will widen to over 1 million with Destiny.

I see that, as per Amazon, the ranking of current-gen bestsellers currently sits at:

1) Mario Kart 8
2) Destiny PS4 (sans bundle)
3) Titanfall (sans bundle)
4) Destiny Xbox One
5) Watch Dogs PS4

Wonder how well that reflects to the rankings with the full set of US data, and accounting for bundled software.

Next month it will widen to over 1 million with Destiny.

Don't forget that there's a solid week of sales in September where the Xbox One not only had an effective price drop of $60 by including any free game, but also a $50 gift card and/or multiple discounts on Xbox Live Gold, depending on the retailer. It may be closer than it looks at first brush, and your assumption requires something on the magnitude of 250k more PS4 sales in September.

If Xbox One gets outsold in November...

We'll see -- it's Halo and COD month. I think in terms of this year that November is the best chance for the system to be #1.

CoD is on PS4 as well, and I don't think a Halo remake is going to be much of a factor to put it over for the month.

Remakes aren't huge system sellers.

Only way I see Xbox One taking November is if they have some insane bundle deals and Sony doesn't have a compelling match, or Sony doesn't ship enough supply.

I think both of these scenarios is rather unlikely. I put the chances of Xbox One taking November as possible, but slim.

No one has yet to adequately explain where in the hell Sony shipped like 750k of Vita's last quarterly report

I'm not saying it's aliens but...

Yeah, that still makes no sense to me. The number was like PSP combined. And I don't think the PSP is still that alive.

But it is gaining a sizable lead. By the end of this year I expect a 1.5 million unit lead for PS4. In MS largest market. NA is where MS makes the vast bulk of their sales. So far at least. And right now Sony is building a lead. If it continues through the generation the lead could be as large as 10 million units in six years.

I don't see how MS execs can be happy with their performance so far.

Yeah, PS4 is stronger. No doubts about that.
However, PS4's lead is far from double Xbone's sales.
In US One sold 3m console, PS4 3.7m (as of july), and Xbox One also have a better attach rate. Xbox had Madden exclusive bundles and marketing (i suppose) this month, and Madden last gen was very strong on 360.
I think that beating PS4 Madden sales wasn't an impossibile task for the Xbox One. It seemed feasible in my opinion.
This result clearly shows the strenght of PS4 and its momentum.

instead the next month they have zero chances to beat Destiny, even with the "free game" deal.

Maybe in november, with the 399 game bundle, the white console and halo the can make interesting numbers.

It's surprising that PS4 online play is behind paywall unlike PS3 so in that regard PS4 is in worse position to X1 compared to PS3 to X360 and yet managing to sell games better. Obviously it isn't affecting competition that much at all.

To be honest, I'm not really convinced Sunset Overdrive will even chart in the Top 10.

I am talking more about the bundle, plus whatever November deals MS throws in there. Not a game changer, but if I am not a COD fan, and I want an Xbox, that is the bundle I go with.

Never said it was likely. Simply said it's the best chance due to Halo, COD, and just the overall Holiday season boost.

This months sales suggest that even a previously Xbox franchise can still sell more on PS4. I don't think CoD is gonna make as much of a difference in console sales as it used to (if it makes any difference at all)

If it reviews well it will be up there for a month or two. I think it looks great, and is the most likely game to get me to buy an XB1, but I don't think it has mass appeal. I fucking love insomniac so I hope I am wrong.

It's been a while since I've been really invested in this. But I imagine holiday 2014 to move a ton of units, if they are lucky it's everything that's in stock. I think the only thing that kinda concerns me is a shift in gaming culture (less comfy couch).

How did Halo 3 thru all the spinoffs thru Halo 4 sell relative to one another and the install base at the time? I remember seeing some charts about big drop offs in multiplayer, and the assumption at that time was the Halo's popularity was on the wane. I know MCC will be pretty big since it is the first in the next gen releases, but is there any evidence that Halo somewhat stagnated on the 360?

COD bundle and Halo is a good combo for Holiday season.

Remakes aren't huge system sellers.

Depends on what remakes we are talking about. I think MCC will help just from a value standpoint alone -- a whole lot of content (single and multiplayer) for $60.

Like I said we'll see. Just simply said that the Holiday season is the only time I could see it happening.

If it doesn't then I would say that we could definitely expect the system's first price drop in 2015.

Madden is currently tied to the Xbox brand but in no way is it as much as COD.

Normally I would agree with you but MCC stands out because:

A. It's four different games

B. It's four of the biggest games ever in one of the biggest FPS franchises ever

I don't expect it to do anything insane but I'd say it still has a lot of selling power just because of the value and nostalgia. Not Titanfall level, but still something.

You're not seriously comparing Titanfall to Halo, are you? It wouldn't even be close to a fair comparison, even if we were talking about Gears of War. I'm not saying that a remake collection like Halo MCC will necessarily push them ahead in November NPDs, but comparing a brand with the strength of Halo to a new ip that didn't set the world on fire in terms of user reviews or even critic's reviews is hilarious.
I think Halo MCC as a system seller is massively overrated here on GAF, considering it releases withing a week with Far Cry 4, AC unity, COD and if the rumors are true GTA V.
If i were MS i would have released it in august or may/june with almost no competition.

I don't think it is possible myself.

I mean some insane fluke could happen and CoD and MCC propel One to 1.7 million units for the month, but I doubt that happens. It may get reasonable close, but I expect November alone to give Sony a 300k+ unit advantage. We're talking large holiday months. Black Friday included. I expect PS4 to perform much closer to a market leader than One. Though I expect both to be comfortably over 1 million units for the month.

We'll see.

360's year headstart was likely fairly important

Jesus guys. Sales doesn't include bundles and digital purchases which would be huge because of EA Access.

After THAT Microsoft PR statement, don't you think they would have said it if bundled + physical + digital was more than the reported PS4 sales of Madden?

First?

The console hasn't had a price drop in name only.

Switching bundles, adding games, adding *any* free games, and adding $50 gift cards are, for all practical purposes, price drops.

The effective price that a consumer pays for an Xbox One unit has been on a downwards slope since Titanfall.

the battlefield 4 ranking is REALLY strange man. The game is selling the best on the worst platforms! Why is that? The PS4 and Xbone version are vastly superior

Comparing sales from launch is fairly meaningless due to fact that every other launch was far more supply constrained than this one. Including launch is for people trying to create misleading arguments, be it PR or some of us here on gaf. I can't imagine MS would actively engage in lying to themselves.

I would agree except that Aaron Greenberg tweet sounded completely delusional. We still in pre season right now.

Halo's popularity is on the decline, and I think many of the biggest Halo fans have already bought into the Xbox One.

I just don't see it as being a system seller. I think it will certainly sell a lot of software.

System sellers in this day and age tend to come from multiplats, primarily, or the unknown breakout hits that are a slow burn.

Multiplayer took a hit starting with Reach. But I think actual game sales have stayed consistant.

What time does Cream usually arrive?

Anywhere from 2am GMT to 6am GMT from what I remember from following previous NPD threads. Last month Cream took longer than usual and there was only like four people replying to the thread when Aqua just showed up and dropped the numbers when like no one was here. So either Aqua or Cream over the next few hours. Hopefully.

Personally I'm just curious to see how much more the PS4 sold compared to the One. It'll provide an interesting indicator and forecast for the rest of the year.

To be honest, I'm not really convinced Sunset Overdrive will even chart in the Top 10.

It won't, but I don't think Uncharted: Drake's Fortune did either in its first month.

People will be claiming bomba, but they fail to realize that Watch Dogs and Destiny sales (or anything close to it) are not normal for new IP.

I don't understand why Microsoft feels the need to be misleading with their PR. They should just take a page out of Sony's playbook and keep quiet when they're losing. Given that I'm quite surprised that the PS4 version of Madden outsold Xbone even while taking into consideration bundled copies.

Nah it will, it's a new game and what games does Xbox 1 really have outside of multi plats

I hope it does, but you gotta figure by the time it launches in late October, the Top 10 will be filled with multiplatform titles like Destiny, Disney Infinity 2.0, Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2K15, WWE 2K15, Just Dance 2015, etc...

The odds are not in its favor.
