If they're learned their lesson Next Xbox definitely will be at least equal of PS5 in specs, announced totally focused on games and will be launched at a compelling price.

Maybe more.

Now from MS's statement , this means that some other games quite high up the chart (but not in the top 10) were Xbox exclusive

Btw it's not as simple as wanting to win or having an executive who cares about core gamers.
Everyone wants to win.
The problem is having the right product at the right time and that also depends on the competition.
Until everyone has played their cards we can't say what's going to happen, that's why every gen is a reset.

Wii buyers are buying tablets, Google cardboard, and the hot toy Johnny and Jane wants. They're not going to buy another console untill said console strikes gold with a gimmick that tickles their fancy.

The Wii wasn't bought because it was a gaming console. The Wii sold because it was a Christmas toy fad that snowballed. Think pogs, power Rangers, tickle me Elmo, or beanie babies.

I think at the very least I'll be interesting to see from a market performance perspective. I am sure Sony won't commit the same mistakes twice so barring that type of fuck up it would be interesting to see how much of it matters releasing earlier.

I'm genuinely worried about Nintendo (stupid being worried about a corporation but anyway). It's like Nintendo doesn't exist anymore. Not a single appearence of either Wii U or 3DS on the chart. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Nintendo at this point is as relevant as a tamagotchi and this year will be the same if not worse for 3DS and Wii U.

NX can't come soon enough, seriously.

I'd say game budgets this gen haven't went up all that much. They have went up an order of magnitude since the PS2 ear with little or no growth in the home console market.

The reason you see the money being poured into the top games is because it has become so expensive to make a AAA game. That plus most of the sales have become more and more concentrated at the top and everyone is trying to be there.

Once Sony launch close( no more than 6 months) and around the same price and power they have nothing to worry about.

Ok, talking about Tomb Raider UK sales.

First week: 42,000
Second week: 26,460

After that, we missed all numbers, but...

WEEK 48 (Black Friday):

10 (11) XBO HALO 5: GUARDIANS (MICROSOFT)
14 (08) XBO RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)

Halo is < 39,000
Tomb Raider, all considering, is not much under Halo... could be >30k as well.


WEEK 49:
18 (14) XBO RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)
34 (NE) WIU XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X (NINTENDO)

XenoBlade is around 10k, and Tomb Raider is like 16 place above that.
Could be easy >20k.

Then, the others weeks:

WEEK 50: #23
WEEK 51: #19
WEEK 52: #23

Now, if we say that in those weeks Tomb Raider sold like 20-30k, should be what? almost 200k?
If is almost 200k in UK, could be 120k in France, since France first week was over 60% UK first week ( 26k FW in France VS 42k UK), and we have +300k France+UK alone.
And those are only retail, with two market of Europe.

I don't see why is so hard 1 million WW retail + digital.

They are omitting some of the actual top 10 in NPD this year because they weren't 2015 titles.

They are basically finding ways to SKU the numbers in their favor as they should since they are PR after all. Those people are damn good at their jobs

I've called out the spin on numerous circumstances, certainly on the current sales of Tomb Raider. It'll be interesting to know actual sales figures on the game (I want to franchise to survive).

Halo 5 is in either the number 11, 12 or 13 spot, then once you remove the three games that didn't come out last year it gets bumped up to the "top ten".

This isn't exactly a new phenomenon...
Companies dance around with words as much as they can when it comes to law-binding documents and terms of service and what not.
Just that Microsoft is also applying that same skill to NPD statements.
