I wouldn't doubt it if Sony gave them some incentive to keep Vita on shelves as well. It definitely is a product that should be pulled given its abysmal sales in the USA.

Yeah you're probably right Aqua. Sony must be doing something to keep them on shelves. Because the Vita has just been horrid for so long now sales-wise.

You should stop inventing arguments that no one is making in order to make your own seem stronger.

Competition is when consumers have multiple appealing products to choose from. If one product dominates, that means there isn't competition.

Consumers HAVE mutiple consoles to choose from and they have chosen
which one they prefer.

this is the very definitio of competition.

For still awake US Vita gamers:
Vita < 17k
TEARAWAY < 3.3k
Ugh.

Is there any precedent for a console / handheld being available in the three major regions and then pulled from one of them?

I can't imagine how it would work if games were still being announced and released for everywhere but the US. Would US mags / sites review PSN stuff that their readership couldn't access?

there were rumours here in australia that ps4 allocations were prioritised to those who stocked vita from day 1 (there were a few places that didn't like k-mart) Anecdotally I would be inclined to believe it

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Creamsugar has been uncharacteristically quiet.

We have some solid numbers or approximations for hardware though thanks to Aqua.

PS4 - 271K
XB1 - 141K
PS3 ~53.5K
Wii U ~49K
360 ~48.5K

EDIT: Oh, new cs leak:

PSV < 17K, so there's something off with that calculated result above.

Still maybe at this stage? Creamsugar save us.

3ds: < 130k
ps3: < 60k
360: < 50k
wii u: < 55k
wii: < 25k
vita: < 25k

Wii Fit U: <20K

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (total): <85K

Ranking among last-gen consoles is PS3 > Wii U > 360

Nintendo SW numbers in OP: Retail + Digital, no bundles

Thanks to both of you.

Last year results, instead?

For reference, Vita sold 34K last January, so this is a >50% decline for the system unadjusted.

Adjusted, Vita sold 27K last January, or a >37% decline for the system.

Those games don't sell. The console doesn't sell. As others have said, it will be pulled from shelves before too long
Eh, people were saying that last year too. I can't see how it would work. They'd need to pull it from shelves worldwide and I suspect the device is just on the right side of 'viable'.

Bummed about Tearaway. Great game.

Vita under 17k is just unfathomably bad. Remote play did nada.

It desperately needs proper first party, big title exclusive support. But no way Sony will prioritize this at this point. Everything will be PS4.

For 3DS, you don't believe it's something like 84k-17k right? Then the statement didn't include handheld. It's about 2/3 last year.

I suppose it's without adjusting for the four weeks compared to the five weeks last year, right?

Then, it's around 100k.

There's something to be said about the opportunity cost of supporting a zombie platform while simultaneously trying to support a thriving one that could favor your argument, but as SmokyDave posted, people are saying that for a year now. I think Sony will still keep the platform alive, but halt or critically decrease first party software support (keeping Japan branch releasing Monster Hunter clones) doubling down on it being a PS4 premium companion device and an Indie platform.

Last year: 212,946
3DS + DS

Last year:
-15% YOY from January 2012
-88% MOM from December 2012

Creamsugar leak from back then:

100k < 3DS < 150k and more closer to 150k
50K < DS < 100K and more closer to 50k

Last I heard 999 is over 100K and VLR close to 70K.

sarcasm? i honestly can't tell. because that seems to be incredible for both. last i checked, 999 was at 40k about three years ago, and vlr barely scraped 10k its first month.

i mean. holy cow. that's more than i expected for either one. 999 would be pushing phoenix wright numbers.

thanks.

Add "$400 Kinect-less SKU", "$300 DL-only SKU" and "Halo loyality".
So, what it is? That?
Wait. Really?

Microsoft will have to pour their marketing budget into TitanFall big time and hope it's lackluster visual performance doesn't hold it back. And they better release that $400 no/kinect package soonish. No one but the already converted gives a hoot about Halo 2 Anniversary. Can't believe that's their big Christmas title.
This?

Awful fanboy logic being used. You could pretty much spin it into any direction: "Killzone loyality", "iNFAMOUS loyality", "Uncharted loyality", "GT loyality" etc. Just awful, awful based reasonig.

Jesus fucking christ. Stick a fork in it... to retrieve the fork you put in it to see if it was done.

They did everything they could software wise. I think perhaps it needs to have the Google Play store just .. there. Just on the device. That's what people want. I think its not the form factor of the phone, its that people's favourite games. It's a software issue as well as a hardware issue. Obviously its last ditch time. Tearaway at 3k doesn't cover two people's salary for a year.

Do they have western first party support besides porting PS2/3 games?
I'm sure you'll still see a few cross platform games like Hohokum, but I think Western exclusive support died a while ago.

I've seen that, seemingly, last year DS did 66k. This means

3DS January 2013 - 147,000
3DS January 2014 (2/3 of 2013) - 98 (estimate)

3DS January 2013 per week - 29,400
3DS January 2014 per week - 24,500 (estimate)

I never understood why some people thought PS4 remote play would help Vita sales.

1) People don't own 55+ inch televisions with 5.1/7.1 surround to play on a small screen
2) Gamers are not going to splash another $150+ on top of just spending $399 on something they MIGHT use
3) There's basically no hype for the Vita outside of the very hardcore gamers

I can double check but both titles have done quite a bit.

bitter sweet for Sony, I just don't get why Vita doesn't sell...it's the best handheld I ever played :(

i think sony makes a profit off the vita because they don't market it. the make money off hardware and the niche games publishers release for it (plus download stuff). any money sent its way to improve the situation could put the product in the red.

the next push is with the revision, which is cheaper hardware to allow more wiggle room for such things.

There's just no market for it.

It doesn't help that they haven't been particularly aggressive in procuring content for the device either. The flood of indies has rocked my socks, but they need exclusive instalments of the safe, familiar brands that people flock to.

I also feel they should've been far more aggressive in procuring iOS ports. Where is Deus Ex: The Fall? Where is GTA: San Andreas? Where is XCom? Where is Asphalt 8?

Not that is much of a solace but if you take into consideration that Sony said last week that Vita software sales are 50-50 physical/digital then the grimness of Tearaway sales is somewhat lessened. By half... :(
