NPD Sales Results for June 2014 [Up3: All Hardware (June/LTD), Top 10 Software SKUs]

There are MILLIONS more PS4s in the world already sold than the Bone though, and the gap is getting WIDER each month.

You have to factor this in. PS4 could have almost 4 million more consoles sold than the Xbone by the end of the year world wide. Even if we just count NPDs is US PS4 still will have a healthy console lead.

That just means that many more potential software sales.

That kind of math only works when talking about 360 watch dogs sales > Xbox one sales.

The game just came out like a year ago and it was perfectly playable on PS3. The Tomb Raider remaster that came out moved like 150k units in its first NPD and that game sold just like 2 million less than TLOU.

I think people are greatly exaggerating the demand for TLOU.

No matter how beautiful people try and make it sound, I have some big doubts on a remake collection setting the world on fire.

I think even the GTAV remake is going to be a bigger deal, honestly.

GTAV will definitely sell more than than the Halo collection.

Ps3 caught up in the states if I recall. It's all about the games. There is no huge feature on either console that will sell systems. Microsoft took a gamble with the tv and Kinect and "lost". Now they are back on track for gamers. Microsoft has nearly everything in their favor. This mainly consumer options, constant updates, no paywall, new indie policy, and perhaps most importantly they are listening to customers. Like I said most people haven't got their console. They may have heard all the negative press from the internet or their friends and now they see the negatives are gone. When they have a reason to buy a console(the games thus far have been fairly unappealing) then the market "has spoken".

The only reason the 360 is competitive with the PS3 worldwide is because of the US with maybe some help from the UK. They are really close worldwide, and that is because MS curb stomped Sony in English speaking nations for the most part.

Of course GAF rushes immediately to unfounded conclusions. We haven't even gotten the full numbers yet, and the consoles haven’t even been out a full year, and yet GAF is still ready to proclaim this generation's winner.

I’m not dismissing raw sales numbers. I’m stating – as I have stated from the beginning – that the sales delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe. There are absolute sales numbers for XBO not fully understood, and there are things about PS4 numbers as well, that bring the two systems into balance.

People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest game developers IN THE WORLD. They CREATED Halo, the standard console FPS that everyone else has been apeing for years. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think MS don’t know how to build a game optimized for maximizing console sales? Seriously? There is no way they're giving up a 30%+ sales advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has been involved in an Online console warz discussion could say there is a sizable number of fans for both systems. If there was really a huge installed base difference – it would be obvious.

I get a ton of hate for saying this – but it’s been the same EVERY generation. Sony fans claim more sales for their system, they did it with the PS3, saying last year it had surpassed the 360 worldwide, and they are doing it again. And, in the end, console sales for Microsoft's system ended up the same or better.

I’m not saying Sony haven’t built a good system – I’m merely saying that anyone who wants to die on their sword over this 30%+ sales advantage are going to be fighting an uphill battle over the next 10 years…

It won't outsell Mario Kart 8, c'mon now.

By December 31st? Probably not.

It's easy to simply say "we don't know yet." But we probably do know. It's not hard to see the trend, to read this market. MS has a lot of structural building to do that Sony had in place for their console this time last year. It won't be impossible to get right, but it will be difficult and arduous.

So the $399 SKU didn't rescue MS (as expected from their PR yesterday). I don't think the Halo collection will do wonders, and Halo 5 release is far away. By then the PS4 might have an insurmountable lead in the US. That would be quite an accomplishment for Sony. Obviously Sony has all other markets in the pocket already.

The Wii U shows some life again. Perhaps MS will battle it out with Nintendo for third place?

OH, where am i? ni o gaf

How else would you explain the disproportionately lower sales of Xbone multiplats, then?

Don't really understand what you mean... Wii U isn't even in the picture and in terms of multiplats (since you brought it up), the Xbox One definitely isn't anywhere close to the same streak of low selling multiplats as the Wii U was.

You recall wrong.

The rest of your post is just pie-in-the-sky fantasies. "Back on track for gamers", "nearly everything in their favor"? Jesus christ.

You can't have a civil discussion why? Sky high fantasies please explain. Your fan boy post history explains it quite well. We aren't a year in yet, everyone is an early adapter. If you think this amount of time is enough to predict 10 years....can I have tomorrow's lottery numbers?

Really aren't that many other exclusives this year on any platform. Think it's possible.

You think it's going to outsell Mario Kart 8? I'm not saying the MCC isn't going to sell well, but I feel that just like TLOU remaster, the demand is vastly overstated. I'll gladly be wrong.

I'm not as fond of TLOU as gaf but it is a critics and gamers darling last year compared to TR. You also need to factor that TR was a multiplat and the remastered is made for whatsoever reasons people who jumped ship to PS4 this gen.

These 2 reasons are why the cover has 'over 200 goty awards' label or something on it, it's for appealing to the current PS4 crowd.

This is like last gen in reverse. You had the 360 in the lead and the PS3 doing, let's say, less than optimally in the beginning. So of course it's possible for a more expensive system that performs worse in multiplats to make a comeback. It'll take some amazing games on MS's part to pull that off though, and those amazing Halo developers that you mentioned don't work there any more.

Edit: Oh God, was this a meme and I just showed my ignorance? In my defense there were some warning lights going off but I ignored them :(

It's no savior. But a lot of people will buy it.

Especially since the market still hasn't produced an arena console shooter like Halo: CE, 2 since.

Refurb units count as a new sale on the books. They sold the original, replaced it for the customer and fixed the broken one to then re-sell. It's considered a new WiiU entering the market and they count it as a sale. MS and Sony do the same thing, but they sell their refurb units directly through gamestop for example.
I never thought of things that way. I thought it was really shady when MS was counting 360s this way though because most of the time they replaced refurbs with other refurbs. That really muddies the water.

yeah that's actually another good call too. I was going with MK8 because it's already had a solid release, will continue to sell, and see a (hopefully) nice holiday bump. Halo collection could have an amazing opening but still not be able to make up for the lost time.

TLoU is another good call in that regard

I don't see it man. Mario Kart will almost definitely be over 1 million by the time the Halo collection launches (probably more) and it will see another significant bump for the holidays.

I am not going to go out on a limb here. I think it will be close. Destiny could fuck it up for Halo though. There is nothing similar on Wii U that is going to distract buyers from Mario Kart. Which will have a 6 month lead. But I will stand by it. I think Halo will win in the end.
