So, honestly guys, how on earth does Nintendo ride out another year on Wii U? The thing is just doing next to nothing in terms of hardware. I'm genuinely curious what opinions are in here as to what they can do. It doesn't seem like we are getting a new home console from them until at least late 2016 and maybe even not until 2017 since they aren't showing or announcing any new hardware at E3.
I just don't see how they can ride this thing out for another 1-2 years.
Anyone going to attempt to decipher this?
3DS 91-93k?
To be real though, a $299 PS4 in the US would fucking explode. I wonder how long Sony will hold out.
60% PS4 on The Witcher 3, which is about 1.5x a 40% Xbox One market share.
Assuming the proportion stays constant relative to market shares outside the US and the 1.3 million number for PC, as well as putting the 15% or so digital split for consoles, we should get to around 2:1 sales.
So, about 1.8 million on PS4 and around 900k on Xbox, total worldwide? Something around there?
September to coincide with the MGSV launch is my guess.
Wow, Splatoon launched literally at the end of the month and still broke into the top 5. Next month's gonna be really interesting.
donny2112 doesn't have access to NPD data.
Release new content to appease the existing userbase and not piss off the fans they have until NX is out.
I fail to see how you can't see it...maybe you will after Tuesday
Thanks guys lot's of good opinions in here. Was just curious how ya'll were feeling on it.
I fail to see how they can move really any hardware at all 1 year and a half from now is all. It barely sells anything now, let alone that far out.

Their forecast for 2015 is pretty much the same as for 2014, so they don't plan to move more Wii Us. For 2016 they will probably bet on Zelda (and maybe Pokken) and I assume they will forecast also around 3 mio. consoles sold. 2017 will probably be the slow death.
Think they're just trying to ride out this gen without losing too much money and see how things go next time around.

It sold twice as much as Devil Survivor: Overclocked did in its opening month.
So I imagine Atlus is quite happy. They're a niche publisher, after all.

Astute observation. Nintendo's FY forecasts are very telling as to their Wii U ambitions.
Nintendo's FY3/2016 projections are virtually the same as their pitiful FY3/2015 shipments, implying that they've accepted the Wii U's fate and are beginning to write it off. They're focused on what's next.
I do thing the proportion is even worst for Xbone outside US/UK.
PS4: 2m
Xbone: 700k
Nintendo wrote the Wii U off a long time ago.
Well I think for Nintendo it's no longer a plan of "We have to shift X amount of hardware" for the Wii U. That train left the station a long time ago, which is why their forecast for sales is the same year-on-year as it has been the last two, at a paltry 3 million units for the fiscal year.
What Nintendo need to do, and what they are doing, is still support the Wii U, showing that they don't care and still make fantastic titles. Will it push the Wii U more? Maybe a little. Will it make it turn around? Nope. Unfortunately, the Wii U's image has been wrecked over the last few years and there's no turning it around. It's a shame as the Wii U is such a fun console with such a fantastic line-up, but ah well.
What they're doing now is expanding the company so they can take a hit like the Wii U and the 3DS's huge price drop (massive loss with the console, and it then took off) without it damaging the bottomline. amiibo have really helped with this, and the other avenues they're going into look set to keeping Nintendo in the black now that they have returned to profit.
I'm with you. Zelda won't launch on the Wii U.

Doesn't make any sense not to. It's like giving away free sales looking at the attach rate of Wii U big sellers and how HW sold worldwide. It might at worse be on Wii U and the next console, but not launching at all is ridiculous. It's like carrying your wounded horse on your back until home and shooting him once you're there.
Whatever they come up with next, i will buy, almost regardless.
The amount of fun i've had, both playing games on WiiU myself or with my family has been worth every penny i paid for the console, it is sheer fun in a little plastic box, and them continuing to bring out new things despite not having the vast userbase of the other consoles shows their commitment to the people who buy their hardware, what more can you ask for from a company whos purpose is to make money.
I'm with you. Zelda won't launch on the Wii U.
EDIT: Exclusively

Edited my post to say exclusively. I think it will have to have a NX launch window release. Otherwise that puts the next Zelda at what, 2020? Unless they do a remaster.
Price cuts, Zelda (yes itll hit U), some other software surprises, mobile software with some loose ties to companion Wii U titles, some big amiibo centric game, some game that makes very curious use of the sub screen? It's a dark spot for sure, but they're scrappy and will be okay

If Xbox One sold 139k consoles, I wonder how many PS4's were sold and how much the margin of victory was.
For those who are still expecting Sony to announce a price drop for PS4, why would they? They've won four out of five months this year and thanks to the Batman bundle, they're expected to win June as well. And including the $400 Batman bundle, I don't see Sony announcing a price drop until later in the year if that. I'm still predicting E3 2016 to $300.

Price cuts are iffy. What Nintendo as a company don't want, because they can't absorb it, is to price cut a console so that it's at a loss and then have it take off. It happened before and led to them having the first of 3 years of financial loss. The 3DS needed a price cut, but they lopped too much off and made it very enticing. It took off like mad, with 11 million units sold in the 6 months following the price cut, but with it all at a loss. That is quite damaging to a company that, unlike Microsoft and Sony, doesn't have any additional divisions to temporarily absorb any considerable loss.
Everything else though, I agree

Before your edit, I would have said that would be interesting as it would have made the Wii U the first Nintendo console to launch without a new mainline Zelda title. I can definitely see them pulling a Twilight Princess with it.I'm with you. Zelda won't launch on the Wii U.

136K for Splatoon seems okay for what it is (experimental, niche project that doesn't break the bank). Not phenomenal, not bad.
Basically no hardware impact, as expected I guess.
Y/Y software is hard given Watch_Dogs impact last year. Does anyone remember if anything significant as Batman was out in June though out of curiosity?

It still boggles my mind that people think NX is anything other than a portable/handheld, which is unlikely to be able to handle WiiU ports without significant downgrades, which isn't going to happen with ZeldaU. The WiiU successor will probably announce/launch a year or so afterwards, depending how much effort Nintendo needs to put into the NX to get it selling.Edited my post to say exclusively.
