People didn't not buy the N64 because it had cartridges. Cartridges hurt the system because it made distribution of games more expensive, and ended up isolating themselves from third parties which began the dreaded drought spells that Nintendo gamers have been experience ever since.
So did the Vita make a big turn around in sales, with the PS4 remote play stuff or no?...
We need a chart to evaluate how quickly the dedicated handheld market is shrinking.
> The PSP reached 80M, the Vita is around10M (?)apparently well under 10M
> The DS reached more than 150M, the 3DS is at 34M and might get to 70M
Seems like it's shrinking really fast, albeit mostly on the Sony side.
Hahaha, turning the WiiU around, like the 3DS. Oh man.
That won't happen.

Of course not and you're a fool if you thought that would turn things around.
You know what Vita needs? Games. Games that I can't get better versions of on console.
I have high hopes for the year of Cranky.
I don't understand why people thought Mario would begin the turnaround. There were 3D Mario games on the Gamecube and that didn't do shit to turn around that console's fortune.
There was anyway been the theory that the reason Nintendo's core franchises sold so well on the Wii was because they were carried on the casual wave Wii Sports created. I guess that theory is proving true.
Alright, so where do we go from here? Should I make a video of me flinging my Wii U out of a window, then publicly apologize to the internet ever having liked such a shameful, awful thing? Must I accept that any fun I've ever had with Nintendo products has just been a delusion produced by an immature mind?
I'm frustrated. The situation is terrible and I know there's no real way of turning around, but this shit is so overwhelming that I feel like I'm doing something wrong by even looking forward the few positive things the Wii U has left. Fuck me.
If you were sitting in Iwata's seat, how would you justify comitting to that expense, knowing that you might be risking the company?
Honestly they could have went to 2011 and 2010 and not seen that much difference either.
Where did that market go? Smartphones and Tablets.
It is the same product that is also having a huge effect on the 3DS. Kind of ironic that Apple and Google are fighting Nintendo (and winning) against Nintendo on not one, but TWO FRONTS.
Casual gamers and families have dropped the Wii U in favor of smartphone and tablet PC's. Kids and the older folks have dropped the 3DS in favor of smartphone and tablets. So yeah, Nintendo has to be damn worried with no fallback console.
Price can make miracles man. I don't think you realize how overpriced is this system for targeting the mass market.
Ditching the tablet and bringing back the Wii remote would (1) make them possible to drop the price by 100$ in one shot; (2) make the system becoming truly a successor of the Wii and (3) getting rid of the confusion with the tablets market dominated by Apple and co.
Couple that with Mario Kart and Smash and yeah: this is truly something that can work.
Where are people seeing Vita numbers?
Mario fatigue (NSMBU, NSLU, SM3DW, next is Mario Kart)Why is that? Who's fault is it?

Perfect post. Thank you. Especially agree with the Mario fatigue. For me I'm not interested in any more Mario games, Zelda games, or Donkey Kong games. Something new and completely original is what I'm after. Pikmin looks good, and W101 has me interested. But that is not enough. Couple that with the inferior hardware and a high price... No thank you.Mario fatigue (NSMBU, NSLU, SM3DW, next is Mario Kart)
Inferior hardware, the equivalent of which (PS3, Xbox 360) is selling for $175-200
Lack of major 3rd party multiplatform titles
Lack of major 3rd party exclusive titles
A mandatory peripheral that no one really cares about
Wii / Wii U brand confusion
Dramatically changing market trends (see the top 10 selling titles)
Those are the major reasons I can come up with off the top of my head. Why is Nintendo making these terrible decisions? Conservative management. It's the same problem that killed off many major Japanese corporations in the 90's or brought them to their knees.
at some point people will stop blaming marketing and realize that no one wants the system
Crappy fighting game, boring rehash, yearly sports game, 900p QTE fest, shooting game, mascot game, another shooting game and one decent (money hat) game.
A lot of people didn't buy the console for the lineup. Hell it's been 8 years since last gen's launch.
So are Nintendo going to amend their projects WiiU sales yet?
I expect them to announce a $249 Mario Kart bundle in line with their other bundles and keep dawdling on clinging to critical reception and looking towards the next golden egg.Price can make miracles man. I don't think you realize how overpriced is this system for targeting the mass market.

Yes and Nintendo seems unable to make any real companionship between 3DS and WiiU while you bring it up. A missed opportunity. Why are people trying to prop up Wii U by comparing it to Vita now? Two different devices selling poorly for two different reasons. The main difference however is that Sony understands that Vita is in a place where they are trying to build it up as a companion device to PS4 and let it cut its own niche out. Wii U is supposed to be the successor to one of the highest selling consoles of all time and is selling bomba levels. I suspect Nintendo investors are on suicide watch or close to it.
Mario Kart 7 just doesn't sound exciting at all.You forgot the other big one, Mario Kart.
Nah Wii U started with average sales. Let's not forget that for example in UK PS4 and Xbox One outsold Wii U LTD in a matter of days.

Nothing annoys me more when people bring up the Gamecube when it is suggested Nintendo release a powerful console.
Were people not there at the time? Perception is key! The fact is that since the n64 Nintendo systems have been gimped in a major way one way or the other. They have not released a system that in eyes of the media/core players is equal or better than their counterparts. This along with the shitty 3d party relations, and Marketing are the reason they are failing.
n64 - Carts
GC - No DVD when DVD were the hot shit, Purple, Handle
Wii - No HD, Shitty Online, Weak
Wii U - Weak, Shitty online
Wii U is dead in EU. They never had any support there.
Wii U is dead in NA. No amount of Marios, Smash and Karts can save it.
Wii U is dead in JP. No amounts of DQX expansion packs can save it.
Vita on the other hand still has potential in Japan and the rest of the world (as a glorified PS4 controller)
Vita will probably top 10 million while the WiiU won't.

The sad thing is, Nintendo will probably not budge at all. They'll keep pressing on with their current strategy.

Not so far, but even though people are interested, Sony's Japanese market first approach probably makes them leery of releasing it outside of Japan. Is there a western release date for the Vita TV? I assume people are waiting for it, no?

At least we'll get X out of it.
It's like I stepped into Gamefaqs all of a sudden. Fuck off with this blatant trolling.
Saddening to think 3DS Smash will be bought more than Wii U Smash, and I think with the flagging sales of the system it'll fracture the userbase. Why would I want to play Smash at home when I can play it any time, anywhere?
This CCIE guy is really entertaining.
Strong start for the next gen. The MS is doomed camp needs to step back as they did pretty damn well with a $100 more expensive machine. Blows my mind what they've been able to do after an atrocious reveal.
Right now, I'm going to enjoy the last-gen a bit more as I still have a lot of games left to play. Need to get a couple new tires which will delay my entrance into next-gen.
Smash am cry.
