Why is Sony so quiet? You would think they would like to gloat about their numbers. Ugh, I desperately miss the days NPD would give us all console sales numbers.
DS->3DS software sales are down about 45-50% generation over generation launch-aligned as well.
It's over for the Wii U. I really believe that. What is it tracking towards? 9-12 million? I think it might live again in a rebranded console, as the Gamecube did with the Wii. That might be their best hope now.
If there is anything Nintendo should be slammed for, it is chasing after their own past/legacy rather than trying to push forward which actually feels sadly out of character for them. 3DS and Wii U have great software, but Nintendo's output on both is primarily sequels from well established IP. The hardware design for both also plays it safe by sticking closely to the DS and Wii rather than going in an entirely different direction.
I think if Nintendo wants any hope of success in either market, they need to have a new vision of the company's future and innovate heavily in both their hardware and game design. Sadly, Nintendo's painfully slow reactions in a fast paced market will prove the next few years to be painful.
We have huge multiplatfrom games across many platforms,I didn't expect them to chart.Thought dead rising 3 or killzone sf would make the top ten, bummer one of them didn't
didn't expect Ryse, Forza or Knack to make it, just those two since they were the big exclusive ones.
also thought 3DS was gonna sell a ton, i saw a lot of people buying them on black friday, weird.
What?Where's Peterboy?
Got all uppity with me last night for calling doubt on MS's claim that they sold '2million' XB1's to customers because they have a history of spin and obfuscation with such matters.
And bang, here we have it again today - apparently steady sales numbers over a short period beats total sales. Who are you fucking kidding.
How the fuck is Battlefield 4 2nd place? It's not a videogame, it's a videobug or videoglitch or videocrash.

I think even the most ardent Nintendo apologist would steer clear of this thread. The writing was on the wall since Black Friday. Also, the system sold less than the Dreamcast even after Sega pulled the plug and announced they were going third party. And this is with two full Mario games on the market. In other words, those evergreen titles like Smash and Mario Kart can't come soon enough.
Disappointing Wii U sales.
I've resigned myself to owning and supporting my modern day Dreamcast.
I don't get how XB1 was supposedly the fastest selling when we know PS4 sold more in just 24 hours.
Anyone?

I'm also interested in Tearaway sales, considering it's already gonna be $20 this weekend at Gamestop.

Wont be long for Tearaway to become Giveaway on PS+. Thanks to PS+ I've got an amazingly good Vita library.

Considering the two newest system launched are PC derivatives and 8 of the top 10 games in November were straight sequels, most pretty much devoid of innovation, I have to wonder how far innovation really goes these days. It seems like people want exactly the opposite.

This is also another worrying point for Nintendo.
They need maybe for the first time ever to address problems both on the handheld and on the console side. They have time and money to do so, but I think we can safely say that this end of year will force them to take serious measures.
They average it per day. So it sold slower and less than ps4 but was out a week less than PS4.I don't get how XB1 was supposedly the fastest selling when we know PS4 sold more in just 24 hours.

Hmm.. $20 for Tearaway sounds good. Honestly, I played the demo and felt that anything over $20 is inappropriate for that game. It's not worth a full $40.
But $20.. that's delectable and affordable. Hmm....
In the November you're referring to, the Dreamcast retailed for $49.99 (cut from $79). That year isn't a valid comparison as it was being firesaled out of retailers.
No Zelda, No Mario
You know whose turn it is

damn, so ps4 is 66% from those x1 sales?

As an proud owner of Nintendo consoles for over 25 years, I am really sad right now. They still make amazing games, but people just don't care anymore.

Sony have a policy of not releasing the numbers.
I was talking about before the reveal. Sorry we knew Nintendo had new hardware before the actual reveal.

I've never really seen the point of being emotionally invested in sales. I mean, I understand it to the extent that it affects whether you'll get more or less of the stuff you like in the future, sure. But other than that? I like sales discussions because I find it fun to sit around being an armchair analyst and pretend like I'm smart when I'm right because I "get" the industry. But outside of those factors? I find it best to distance it from the act of actually playing games.
There have been good games. There'll be a few more. There probably won't be as many as you would have liked if things don't improve, but obviously there's still some must-have games. So in that regard, I advocate just enjoying them. Mario 3D World is still great. DK will be as well. So will Mario Kart. And X. And Smash. I bought on launch day, and I don't regret it. And this is coming from someone that's been down on it's sales prospects since last December.
That was because the numbers always sucked. I'm sure their policies will change now that they can brag again.
Bring back the Sony family! I'm anxiously awaiting finding out which console family sold more.
