I proposed having the 4080'16G at 800 dollars would be a sign of goodwill after this debacle.
But clearly I "and people like me" are insane cuz why would they increase the price of the xx80s gen on gen?

lol they are confused themselves. Trying to make max profits as possible. But since the 4080 12gb is on par with 3090 they can still price it with respect to it and what AMD has to offer. I guess they are in a position to call the shots. 4080 name was definitely wrong everyone knew it looking at the specs.

Need to unlaunch the 16GB too, it's even worse than the 12GB. Trading blows with the 3090's for $1200+, the 4080 Strix is literally going to cost as much as a 4090. At least the 12GB could boast it was (barely) under a Grand, nobody's going to buy the gimped ass 16GB to save $200 over a 4090. It'll be Nvidia's most disastrous product launch of at least the past decade, possibly of all time. GPU sales must be in absolute free fall for Nvidia to do this after already announcing it.

They don't have to. $1600 is a stupid amount of money to pay for a GPU. Actually in the UK the 4090 is going to cost approx $1900-2000.
If they have a 4080 16GB beater at a cheaper price, that's a win.

In Belgium the difference between 16gb RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 is 500€. FE RTX 4080 16gb costs 1500€ while the RTX 4090 costs 2000€. AIB models of the RTX 4080 are closer to 2000€ while the RTX 4090 versions cost 2500€. This shit is ridiculous and fucked up at the same time.

I dont get this. If they don't have something as good as the 4090 why would they wait so long? Whenever AMD had a worse product they'd release it immediately to cash in on the next gen sales before nvidias offer came out. If anything this gives me hope since it's clear they're working hard and are clearly confident in their product

I am proposing that the 4080'16G should be 800 - 900 dollars.......at 1200 it is well overpriced.
For an extra 200 dollars you gain so much, the only value proposition is rather shockingly, the 4090.
At 800 dollars the 4080'16G becomes a much more attractive card.

Yeh I was thinking maybe because of this there could be a chance they drop the price of the 16GB 4080 but I think that will depend on what AMD announce. The date they've announced would afford them the liberty to do so.

AMD announce a 4080'16G competitor at ~750 dollars......Nvidia will have to cave and reduce the price.
Cuz even with RT and ML benefits the price differential alone would make the 7800XT a much much better buy.
Its unfortunate the AMD event is before the launch of the 4080'16G but I think enough data on it has already leaked AMD have a good gauge of how powerful it is.
It would have been a real death blow if AMD could have benchmarks of the 7800XT that costs ~750 beating the 1200 dollar RTX 4080.

I expect AMD's top card to compete with the 4090 in Rasterisation. Much more than RDNA 2 did with Ampere.
The wild card here however is ray-tracing, which 4090 will very likely win out on.

As a stock owner Nvidia can go to hell. Consumers have to react this way with every single product on PC until prices go back to normal. Even after the crypto boom they are ripping gamers off. Just play older games, reduce settings, play emulators whatever... Don't bring the FOMO/YOLO mentality to PC gaming. Play the waiting game. Take advantage of the endless catalogue of games and don't think about HW.
I am sure devs will learn to optimize better if gamers buy less HW. Actually taking advantage of the HW we use like on consoles.

What does the PS3 have to do with anything we are discussing here?
The reason I use 800 - 900 is cuz if the MSRP is 800 dollars some people in the US have to pay tax on that, also the majority of people end up getting AIB cards anyway, so generally speaking you end up paying between 800 and 900 dollars.

I also loathe how they launch their next gen cards with cut down chips. Of course they do this for future 'Ti' or Super iterations. I understand. That doesn't mean we have to like the idea of paying such sums for 4080s/4090s with 10% - 20% of the die disabled. The only reason this is viable is due to lack of competition.
AMD made the mistake with RDNA2 of not competing against the full NVidia equivalent chips. This left NVidia able to ruin AMDs RDNA2 launch straight away with their 'latest' Super 3000 series cards. AMD have to be smarter with RDNA3 and get it right on the performance side. If they release full chips they must compete with the full die on the NVidia side of things.

But you felt the need to use inflation as the basis of your argument, so how would it be any different if I argue that the PS5 should have cost $750 (based off how much the PS3 cost 16 years ago) according to your flawed logic.

2 reasons
1- whatever they have is not ready ( drivers maybe or hardware, who knows )
2- They always release after Nvidia just to see what they got it in terms of pricing and try and go lower to compete. its always been the case.
If AMD comes first, Nvidia will just crush them. they will do the same move AMD used to do and no one will buy a banana from AMD where they already lacking in terms of sales.
if AMD had something higher or can match the 4090, you think they will sit on it and watch people spend their money on a 4090 and not their card? they will shout it from top of the roof. even if its just a teaser like ( the most powerful GPU is coming This Nov ) .

Somewhat hyperbolic, but not really. It's more like a 3090 Super than a new 2 year generation, and these are the games Nvidia chose to highlight meaning they're likely the most favorable benchmarks. I also meant the premium 4080's are basically going to cost as much as all the base 4090's. It's a terrible card at a terrible price, nobody with a working brain is going to buy a card that's half as fast to save $200. Literally everyone interested in a $1000 class card is going to buy a 4090, they're all serving the same market.
