Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

I know little to nothing about PC guts, but I plan on building one at the end of the year because my wife needs Civ 6 apparently. Also because I'd rather build a PC than buy Xbox Scorpio.

Is the 1070 gonna kick the rumored scorpio's butt if true? Thats about as much as I would be able to afford for a graphics card.

If xbone 1.5 really is 6.x tflops, its about = in theoretical math. In real world performance who knows. We need to see how the amd architecture powering it performs

Sorry for the dumb question, but what does the "Ti" upgrade mean and why does it cost more?

Ti is Nvidia's Titanium series. It's been used for cards above certain performance designations around certain market segments, usually when Nvidia runs out of round numbers. So a 750 Ti was about 30% more power than a 750 but didn't even approach a 760. The GP104 chip uses very little die area (300-350 square mm) so we suspect that there's a chip with more SMs coming down the pipe to use for a Ti/Titan product.

So uhh, is anyone gonna stay up tonight to slam f5 to get one of these?
Yeah but I was just talking the whole situation over with my gf and she said to wait to see how the super clocked versions pan out before dropping the dough.

My guess is 1000$ for the 1080ti and $1500 for the titan. If amd drops some good shit then less

I fully expect Titan X pricing for the 1080TI, which in Australia means $1500.

Fucking rip off tbh. I may just have to go to AMD at some point literally because they're pushing prices to the point of being too expensive.

Are the EVGA customs out tomorrow too or we find out tomorrow when they will be releasing? Local store has them listed online (out of stock), but I'm wondering if I need to skip out of work to grab one.

Judging from the vast volume of leaks today, all the AIBs are announcing their customs tomorrow. If so, hopefully the availability will be very soon. Customs being available within a week or two of FE will really make the whole FE non-scandal pretty hilarious overreacting about nothing in hindsight.

The FE doesn't do doom 4k 60 either. My 980 ti has some drops as well at 4k 60 1500/8000 but the difference between an FE is negligible, and I'm not sure an after market card for $700+ is a good investment either. If youre jumping up from something other than a 980 ti or fury x, then it's a different conversation. I'm willing to tweak a few minor settings to save a $300+ hit to the pocketbook, and that's if I could get $400 for the ti.

DOOM is crazy well optimized compared to most of the 2015-16 AAA titles I've played in 4K. I cleared DOOM in 4K on my 980 Ti, though mine only reaches 1470/7750. The framerate was mostly 50-60 but the big firefights had me in the mid-40's. It was still completely playable for me, even with the hectic pace of that game. I wonder how much better a heavily OCed custom 1080 would do, maybe be consistently in the 50's even during the heaviest loads. I cleared it in Ultra-Violence so I'm likely to wait until I get my 1080 before I begin my Nightmare run.

The bigger issue is they really need to patch DOOM to fix the random CTDs. Especially during the last 2 levels, I would be in the middle of a pitched battle with the legions of Hell and suddenly I was looking at my desktop. I mean I still finished the game okay but it was really aggravating sometimes. I also hope they release the Vulkan patch soon.

Only if the customs are $599, which is doubtful imo.

Canadian retailer has both the EVGA SC and FTW priced. SC is ~$675 USD and FTW is ~$710 USD. For reference the FE is ~$700 USD in Canada, so it sounds like the pricing is pretty much 1:1 with conversion.

Pretty much what I expected, slightly lower on both models than I would have thought, but as expected no where near $100 less. Expected $700 for the SC and like $729 for ftw. $750+ for classified.

No doubt. Being in usa its the least shitty for me. Ive really grown to dislike nvidia as a company over the last couple years. They have become very anti-consumer in a lot of ways and the trend doesnt look to stop any time soon

Right, better to buy the "$300" 980ti golden..

There will be more open box 980 tis for ~400$ or so if microcenter is dropping new 980 tis to $499 as someone posted a bit ago, and absolutely that is a better buy than a $699 FE. Heck, a $499 evga 980 ti is a better buy than an FE, assuming you can step up to a 1080 ftw or ssc.

If you want to run a hot coal inside your case and deal with the sound of a Jet taking off, be my guest.

Enjoy your jet engines. I will gladly wait for the custom coolers.

That's strange, my experience has been the complete opposite. Had a single 780 with a custom cooler (ACX) and I swear that thing was louder under load than my overclocked SLI'ed 970s with the reference Nvidia cooler.

Regarding the heat dissipation, third party coolers are the GPUs that exhaust the most heat inside the case. The reference design blows it all out through the back.

Aaww, did I hurt your feelings?

Anyone with a bit of common sense would wait for partner cards, but I have to be honest, if I lived in USA I would buy the shit out of this right now and probably would regret it later, lol.

Feelings, no.. I could give a shit. I know what I'm buying and money doesn't matter. I'm just laughing at your $300 trolling. Surely you can appreciate that.

Of course you might have taken advantage of a price mistake, but you know it's half price for that card.

If you can get a new MSI golden 980ti for $300 please buy me a few. That's what we're talking about.

It's just funny when that gets dangled, then conveniently ignored when another poster asks twice where it was sourced. I know what I'm buying (reference) based on my need to later pass it down to a SFF box or two. But hey, if someone wants to dump amazing 980ti's for $300 then I'll load up my current rig and dump them later.

NCIX had the Add to Cart button for a while but with the cards out of stock.

They now say In Stock but the button is not there anymore lol.

Anyway that's all reference cards.

Shouldn't the 980tis be around $300 when the non founders 1070 come out in a few months anyhow? Anything more wouldn't make sense

They should, but that's then.. and extreme overclocking 980ti will still bring more.

What's a good game benchmark I can loop to stress test my old cards? Thoughts anyone?
