Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

I'm talking about Pascal, the 1070 is the best bang for your buck, but the 1080 FE is just idiotic I was going to wait for 1070 but I won't wait until July/August to get one of the partner cards and seeing the 1080 benchmarks against the 980ti I think I made the right choice.

I'll just sell this and upgrade to 1080ti when is released.

Obviously when you get a card like a 980ti for $300. Where did you even get that?

The 1080 FE performs hilariously bad under load at high resolution, it is closer to the 980ti than you might expect, the real upgrade to Pascal will be the 1080ti.

Also, I got the 980ti MSI Gold edition NEW for $300.

300 for a 980 Ti is insane, I'd just buy another to go SLI at that price. Most used listings are 400-450 still though.

Yea, definitely not eBay or a retailer. They are still 569 with 30 rebate everywhere.

I wanted to buy a new case so I went to a local reatailer that was having a sale, I don't know if it was mislabeled, I was sure it was going to be like $800 or more (I'm not from USA) even if it was labeled $299, but no, I was lucky.

Didn't buy another one because that was the last one, I'm not a fan of SLI but I would have given it a shot for that price.

Microcenter? Confused by your post, were you in the US when you bought it? Or just somewhere that uses $usd?

No I'm just using Dollars because you wouldn't understand if I told you I got the GPU for ₡160.000. I bought it from a local retailer, not from USA.

There are a ton of Founder Edition 1080's at my Microcenter

Like on sale right now?

Do they have any evgas or other stuff?

Hmm a bunch of founders up as in store only where I live too. Looks like I could swing by right now and grab one... not going to though. Will regret not getting a ftw from the get go and having to do a step up, if a step up is even available. $699 is too much for this card too, so hopefully prices drop somewhat quickly.

No it's not.
A 1080 FE is around 30% better

Nah, unless your running a stock 980 ti. We've been over this. Go watch adoredtv's YouTube video. A 1430 boosting 980 ti is only 3% slower than an FE. The FE also throttles to base clock within 20 minutes of play time.

It makes very little sense to get an FE if you have a 980 ti, imo.

You're misguided and you've used one video to back your claim. Most channels point to a minimum 20% improvement at stock.

No, a 980Ti OC (1400Mhz'ish) vs a stock 1080 is not a 20% difference, and no site is claiming that. More like 3-5% difference. And the GTX 1080 Founders doesnt overclock very well, it cant even keep its boost clock without throttling.

Nearly all of the reviews are done on an open bench, and the majority of the reviews didn't bench long enough to expose the throttling. If you run the FE fans at 80-100%, you will largely mitigate the throttling issues, but I doubt a founders card even at 80% fan spin would beat my 1500/8000 980 ti g1 by more than 20%. Believe what you want, but to me the FE is not worth $699 if you already have a 980 ti.

And no way in hell am I running a blower cooler at 80-100%. Louder than a fucking vacuum.

Can't keep it unless you set the power target to max and just bump up the max temp to 92 in Afterburner. After doing that it doesn't throttle and stays at around 85C.

Okay, seriously, I've researched but cannot find the difference between FE and non?

The FE is just nvidia marketing, the FE is a reference card. The non FEs will be aftermarket cards, that will likely cost the same or more than the FE for at least a little while.

Yes, and the card runs super hot 85-87°, and you also need to change the fan speed to 60%. And thats just to keep its boost clock. Imagine trying to actually OC this thing. Best advice is to wait and get a partner card. Founders doesnt look like a good deal for $700.

Playing DOOM with the EVGA SC "60 fps all maxed out at 4K" ; "and goes way higher than that".

Doom 4K isn't that intense. Just for shits and giggles I turned on DOOM and used DSR to kick the res up to 4K on my 980 Ti boosting (in this particular scenario) up to 1354 (Vrel).

Still in the high 40s. Still damn smooth with my Gsync monitor.

I don't think I would want to run a card at 85 degrees.

It's absolutely fine to do so, but if you don't want to you just setup a more aggressive fan curve and deal with the noise instead.

But really, just wait some more for the good cards to arrive. Kinda silly how impatient some people are.

Believe what you want, but to me the FE is not worth $699 if you already have a 980 ti.

I'm shocked anyone would argue that. The $700 price point just seems silly when it's replacing the freakin 980, NOT the 980TI.

I'm REALLY hoping the AIB cards will be around $630-$650. That's about how much more they were over the base 980TI price.

My 980ti at 1500/7800 def drops below 60 fps often at 4k ultra in doom

The FE doesn't do doom 4k 60 either. My 980 ti has some drops as well at 4k 60 1500/8000 but the difference between an FE is negligible, and I'm not sure an after market card for $700+ is a good investment either. If youre jumping up from something other than a 980 ti or fury x, then it's a different conversation. I'm willing to tweak a few minor settings to save a $300+ hit to the pocketbook, and that's if I could get $400 for the ti.

Exactly this. I'm not upgrading until a 1080 Ti. I think I can squeeze enough performance out of this old girl for now.

Im def not endorsing a purchase of the FE. I actually think its a bad purchase for anyone with custom cards coming out less than a month later. Id consider upgrading to a 1080 if 2.2 ghz ocs are common on custom boards. Thats a massive if tho
