Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Personally I'd rather wait until my local MSY will stock it. Then probably consider Amazon (or probably Newegg AU, depending on shipping charges.)

Is there any difference in the founders edition between different brands? Are they only needing to follow the reference design, but can have different quality on components, or should they all be equal? I have a very tight fit in my chassi, so any cards like Asus Strix and so on doesn't fit :(

UK peops, EVGA FTW £590, best price I've seen.

Argh, tempting. If I use my fucked up maths, I can use the money I got selling my rift to buy one. But using normal maths that money was going towards paying off my vive.

Estimated £400 for the 1070, 1080 is 50% more expensive but should be about 20-25% more powerful? So clearly a premium. But probably available several weeks earlier than the 1070

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Nvidi...als/GTX-1070-Benchmarks-Test-Preis-1196360/2/

1080 is about 29% more powerful than the 1070, and the 980ti is about 14% faster than the 1070.

The pcper 1070 review had the 1070 pretty much on par or a few % faster than the 980ti, and the 1080 about 20% faster.

Coming from a 970, and wanting it for 3440x1440 and VR the added headroom on the 1080 is tempting..but expensive

Edit: I think that was all stock benchmarking. Looks like the 10xx don't overclock as high as the 980ti so the 1070 may end up basically the same.

Look @ Witcher 3 on the above link or any other game they tested. I like this site, because it shows what clock speeds things are running at. 980ti is an amazing overclocking gpu. I get 1450 without changing anything but power limit.

1070 will be a great overclocker too when the proper cards release!

Jumped on the hype train and purchased a 1080. Impulse purchase on Friday night. I have the 980Ti at the moment and have already sold it. I think this will be the last upgrade I'll do in awhile now. I've gone from a 980 to a 980ti and now the 1080 to push the extra few frames for 1440P and 4K but the money to output is nowhere near worth it as I think we're still seriously a few years away from consistent 4K 60FPS gaming.

Out of stock. How much worse will the SC be? Only seems to be 1x8 pin power and 5+1 rather than 10+2 power phase (although I don't know what that means)

Also £640 at scan - I use them a lot but this is really putting me off buying from them in the future

That's annoying, it just means the more phases there are the better power is distributed among them, only a thing for overclocking, helps you attain better and stable OC's, and can increase lifespan slightly.

Scan is unbelievable, that Strix price in particular is disgusting! £620 vs £700....
Can't see anyone doing better than £590, maybe keep an eye out and order when
they get more.

So, it reaches an average boost clock of 2 GHz with maximized PT/TT before any OC after 20 minutes.
Even without changes to PT/TT the average boost reached is 1.962 MHz after 20 minutes.

42,5 db @ full load.
Expected a bit less, but this seeems to be the card to buy.

Highly disappointed with that noise. Sure, there's some room to lower fan speeds/increase temps but not nearly enough compared to my expectations. I want really quiet, not just somewhat quiet. I might cancel my pre-order of that card (it looked like the best option for noise/performance before we got reviews) and wait for better options or switch to a custom 1070 later on. Hmm.

1070 is only 30w less so it'll be quieter but not silent. You could look into water cooling?

Edit: damn I just checked reviews of my old MSI 970 gaming and that was doing 30db at load (stock). That's a huge difference.

Man, I know this is somewhat due to our currency, but I just looked over the last few gfx card purchases I've done:

2013: GTX 680 - 3.295 NOK
2014: GTX 980 - 4.699 NOK
2016: GTX 1080 - 7.499 NOK

I'll grant them that I bought my 680 late in it's run, but It's pretty clear that AMD needs to step up it's game considerably, because Nvidia is running wild with this price escalation. Even the base version of 1080 is twice the price of my 680.

Isn't 42.5db about the same as the founders edition anyway and the strix is running at 300Mhz higher.

Can someone post a summary translation? Also are those fan headers a genius idea?

From Google Translate -

Graphics card controls chassis fan

Completely new are two 4-pin connectors for case fans at the end of the graphics card. Asus says: The Case ventilation can be optimally adjusted to the temperature of the GPU, while the mainboard in the CPU or the housing temperature using it as a reference. can influence the user on what makes the firmware, not yet.

That's all they wrote on that - so I guess they didn't really try it. Can't make the temps any worse though can it?

All true, so it's very loud if you ask me. Good 3rd party coolers get that extra 300MHz while keeping temps 10-15C lower AND staying reasonably quiet at like 33-38db. Unfortunately this Asus cooler fails at that, they've had much better coolers in the past (but also worse).

You can't setup a custom fan curve for the two PWM fans that you can connect to the graphics card yet, all BIOS controlled. It's not like this is a genius, revolutionary idea anyway - you could do the same thing (regulating case fans based on GPU temperature) with SpeedFan on any card for ages.

Tranlsated summary:
- 10€+ in comparison to FE
- ~15% performance boost at same level of noise
- idle fans during desktop use / low usage
- RGB lightning
- 4w more power draw than FE during desktop use due to higher clocks
- size is a concern; 3cm longer than FE; 2,5cm surplus over the PCIe blend; slightly more than 2 slots high

Interesting tidbit: they said another partner card is already on its way to their office.

Please tell me they fucked up the overclocking in the review.

I expected this card to smash through 2.1ghz, I don't see how they could only increase clock by another 50mhz but pushed the memory up by over 500mhz if I read that correctly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0gnm9pA9RM ASUS ROG Livestream, they'll be showing off the Strix and it's just started.

holy fuck, did I just jump in at a shit time "join the republic!!!" criiiiiiiinge...

edit: ok, I think I'm going to cringe alot. wtf is up with the clothes?

Damn, the cringe

Was hoping for new DP1.4 monitors, all I got was a bunch of brand fanboys on stage
And a dude wearing a leather coat. In Taipei. In a hall with tons of people.

Videocardz on Computer Base review of the Asus Strix 1080 - http://videocardz.com/60631/asus-rog-strix-geforce-gtx-1080-offers-poor-overclocking

Is that right? While I thought it was a decent overclock out of the box, it seems like it doesn't get much higher than 2.0Ghz

Looks to be an issue with the 1080 being stuck at 1.25volts at first glance apparently.

Edit: I'm watching this guy on youtube and he pushed his FE to 2070Mhz~ with the Power priority only to 104% and had no throttling over 1 hour, so something screwed up is going on. We'll have to wait and see other cards and what people can do with them.

Slightly OT, but do we know why 1080/1070 doesn't use HBM2? NVIDIA saving it for "big" Pascal? Titan and/or 1080Ti?

Well Tom from NVidia its also not required yet and would only inflate the price. If the big ass Titan needs it then we might see it or perhaps a selling point for the next run off cards.
