so it seems this wave of cards really is the silicon lottery
DSR is a thing and you should be abusing it religously. You can easily use 4x DSR to generate a downscaled 4K source resolution and still manage 50-60 fps in DOOM. If you're on a high refresh display, use 2x DSR to downscale from 1440p and stay above 100 fps.

Yeah I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the card never went above 65c during three hours of working overtime at PCars in VR at 90Hz..
Bro, I think somebody bent your screen.
Enjoy your card man. I am still holding out for my First wave FTW B&H preorder. Have no clue when it will get here but this launch has been such a wreck I just need to stop worrying and do something else. Not even going to track it. When it gets here I will be pleasantly surprised.
YesIs DSR just downsampling?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Pn5_8xL5IWhat's the best way to overclock my G1 1080? I have it set to OC mode via the Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming Engine but surely I could better?
I got my strix but now I'm getting blue screens randomly and the fans go to max but shows my rpm as 0. I might have a faulty card.
Extra bullet point at the presentation. To be fair they did make downsampling a lot easier, no need to change desktop resolution before launching the game, does not require extra client to make it work. Why is Nvidia using some marketing term with DSR then?
DSR implements many things that weren't possible before it (higher resolution downsampling, higher quality filtering, independent of refresh rates and hardware...).Why is Nvidia using some marketing term with DSR then?
Now I want to wait for the Classified, but lord knows when those will be out.Bit-Tech has Evga FTW review here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2016/06/15/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ftw-review/1
Unfortunately they don't have any noise tests. For thermal testing they use delta T so you can only really compare it with other results that use delta T. Also their card was not much of an overclocker but we've known that for a while, it's luck of the draw as to how your card overclocks and they are all quite close to each other.

Well, things that weren't possible in DX11.
Obviously they were pioneered in the innovative -- trailblazing, really -- GeDoSaTo tool for DX9.P)
Not sure if this was posted, but this backs up the awesomeness of the cooler.

Great cooler, shame that almost all cards are maxing out their overclocks around the same place though (even the FE).
My 970 Twin Frozr has been excellent, but I might go for a Gigabyte G1 for my next card (1070?).
What pc case are you using.
Compared to ASUS and Gigabyte's, yes, although all three have pretty similar noise level under load, with Gigabyte's one tiny bit noisier.so is the MSI gaming X the quietest 1080?

It's a curved 3440x1440 Samsung. Got that in yesterday too![]()
Hey, I just received my SC today. I'll let you know how my temps compare to yours.
Thanks I appreciate it.
I did find out that if I remove the front cover of my case, that channels air through two small slits to feed the intake fan, my temps drop to 70C with a +125 core and +400 mem OC and a full load in Doom/Mirrors Edge/Witcher 3. So I either need to change out these intake fans to SP fans, or ditch this case for something else.
What case do you have?
I thought initially you said the SC was running at 70C when clocked at 2GHZ?
The Phanteks P400. I found that when I run with my case completely closed up, after about an hour, the temps start creeping to 80C when gaming. Benchmarks have not been able to get anywhere near that temp.
When I remove that front enclosure that squeezes air through two tiny slots, my temps sit at 69C in Doom, no matter how long I play, and with a much less aggressive fan curve.

Wonder how my Fractal Design R5 will handle it then.
Do you not run the card at a 2GHZ base clock anymore? are those temps just with the factory OC?
FYI, I have Fractal Design Define R5 which is a similar setup. However, instead of two tiny slots the whole side/corner of the front enclosure intakes air.
I won't be able to test this until tonight.
EDIT:
Heh, it seems like my results will be relevant for you as well.

Nice, do you only have the stock case fans or did you add more?

Just the two stock 140mm case fans. I'm open to adding another intake fan if needed, though.
cant believe theres still no anand or techreport reviews

Well I just got my MSI 1080 installed. I'm very pleased with the 3dmark results and I haven't touched the clocks yet.
Pretty good graphics score without touching the clocks. I'd be interested in a 30+ minute run in Doom and what your clocks level out to and temps.
Ok, same as me. Really interested in your results then since mine would likely be the exact same. SC 1080 as well right?
Getting screen tearing on my desktop when I scroll. It's really annoying. Can I enable vsync or something? Running at 3440x1440
I only notice it when my window is full screen. If the window is only taking up half the screen I don't see it

i currently consider canceling my EVGA FTW preorder and go with MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X after all that positive feedback
The Msi Gaming x has a custom pcb right ?
Are you using G-Sync?
Also which monitor? Make sure you have G-Sync enabled if you're using an x34. If you are your OC to 100 may not work. You will need to drop it to 95.

I did a 30 minute run for you. 1440p UItra settings. Default out of the box (no OC).
Core clock leveled at 1911 with a max of 1936.
Temp max was 72.
Ranging from 68-71 most of the time.
