Nvidia Kepler - Geforce GTX680 Thread - Now with reviews

So on Saturday I was able to get a "pre-order" a EVGA gtx 680 from Amazon. Nothing has shown up for purchase or that they even know when it will be shipped. You can not even pre-order anymore, it's only "Notify me." Does this mean my pre-order is valid? I am sick of searching for this stupid thing to be in stock. I believe that Evga only makes 2 to 3 a day and call it a night.

Do a live chat with Amazon, they'll check the order for you.

I have my 680 now and loving Skyrim maxxed to the limit with tons of mods going.

If I SLI the 680 will it combine the RAM to make 4GB or just stay at 2GB?

I did a little OC'ing of the card but I need a good afterburner profile or some settings to try and get more out of the card safely. 3DMark of 10000+ after slight tweak. No voltage change just memory and core clock.

Bah.

Thanks for waiting, I do see that the order has no approximate for the shipping or delivery of this item. I have no access to the information concerning this and for now it is not possible to provide an approximate. I really do apologize for the inconvenience.

I guess I have to keep stalking EVGA and newegg in the hopes they someday make the card again for the rest of us

Get ready to camp out on NewEgg...F5 all night/day. :)

You going to get two?
It depends. I'm waiting on the Lian Li V700 and V750 to release. If I can squeeze two 240mm radiators and a mATX board in the V700, I'll probably go with a single. Otherwise I'm going to go big in the V750 and do two.

Heh, I remember when I had dual 240mm radiators in my rig back in 2003/04. No fans needed if I wasn't overclocking my GPU or CPU, but SLI didn't exist back then so I only had a single card. Kinda nice to have only the hdd and pump making noise. Radiators must be much thinner now though, because I had to use a FULL tower case to fit both radiators (one above the PSU and one at the front of the case under the HDD cages).

690 coming out already? I'm glad I waited and seeing as how you can't even find the 680 anymore, hopefully this will work better. Any reason why they would push out their biggie so recently after the release of the 680?

There are some that are thinner certainly, but cases have taken them into account more, so it's a lot easier to fit them in certain places. Lian Li cases in specific are fully aluminum, so it's just a matter of where you cut holes with the jigsaw on where the radiator goes.

690 is dual GPU. They probably wanted to beat AMD to the punch.

Because the two cards aren't competing for the same position. The 690 is a dual 680 that runs hotter, slower clocks at a higher premium price. Just because the 590 is out there doesn't render the 580 useless? And yes, this is all about beating AMD and take the performance crown first.

They are kinda competing though, for best card available. If there are people who are upgrading from 680(s) to 690(s) I'm sure there are several members here on NeoGAF who would love to take the slightly used 680(s) off their hands... :D

Not really. It's only competing on a paper performance basis. Sure the 690 Dual GPU will be faster than a 680 but at a premium price. 590 wasn't exactly flying off the shelves either because it's just a technical exercise in penis flashing for both companies. So either people will go 680 right now or if they actually want to pay a premium price, they go for SLI setups or beyond, because true SLI is better than a dual-GPU card.

There's a select few cases where a dual GPU might come in handy but most people would rather take the single GPU or go true SLI.

At this point, with what is out right now is there a reason (single monitor) to go with more than a single 680?

That really depends.

Single monitor could mean 2560x1600 or 120hz monitors. If we're talking normal 1080p you can still add so much image quality enhancing stuff your FPS will tank. So if you're the kind of guy that just games at 1080p, has a bit of AA ( 2x / 4x ) and puts everything on max, a single 680 would do just fine.

I just checked my order on Amazon for my EVGA GeForce GTX680 SuperClocked 02G-P4-2684-KR

It says :

Delivery Estimate: Friday April 27, 2012
Shipping Soon

Yay! (Now I need my CPU)

Installed mine yesterday and OC'd my CPU some. Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 FINALLY downloaded and sweet fucking jesus. Those games completely maxed out with a solid 60 FPS are just absolutely stunning. I played the console versions of both an it's night and day better. :bow

The Witcher 2 should be done soon. That's the game I really decided to upgrade for.

I made a quick video with my mate's GTX 680 he kindly lent me to test in my system*, Project C.A.R.S maxed :)

*Definitely going to pick one up in the next few months, so much better than my current 560Ti.

Well I think my 8800gt is toast. How hot are these things supposed to get? My monitor kept turning off from seeing no signal over and over again. Once I took out the card and used my backup (9400gt), the problem stopped. Last I checked the temperature was around 87c..but I think it used to be more around 78c initially. I cleaned the dust off the card and maybe it will still work. Don't know.

Early single slot 8800GTs could get to 90C+, then they put in a bigger fan, but those still almost hit 80C.

Hmm, so people are expecting the 690 dual gpu before the 4gb crazy clocked 680's? I'm not really interested in that one, and was hoping this would be for the cards like the EVGA FTW 4gb or Classified.

Expecting, as in availability? Going to be another paper launch.

It's so painful trying to find one of these let alone the four i'm trying to buy. Anyone know when newegg restocks their 680's? 8)

Check Amazon. It seems every night have a couple or let you pre-order if you get early enough. last night I was randomly clicking there to see the status of my 680 and they had more in stock, so I picked up a second. Impulse .... don't tell the wife!

They're selling the standard 680 for $650 at amazon when it goes for $500. What a scam.

I assume it was running 60fps when you weren't recording? Or no.

Yeah, I had V-sync enabled and it was a rock-solid 60, even when recording (I record to a secondary HDD). It may appear lower in the video as it's rendered at 30fps with reduced quality to play nice with YT.

I'm still waiting to buy a 680. Man, I really hope the shortages end soon. I mean manufacturers are still rolling out new non reference models yet they can't fill the demand for stock cards.

I see that now. I really want to get my hands on one 8(

Keep an eye out for it. After I ordered last night it was still "in stock" and "pre-order" for a good 15 min or so. I just checked my confirmation email and it says it will be in stock April 28, delivery May 3rd. So keep watching! You can also watch the evga website.

I ordered the EVGA GeForce GTX680 SuperClocked (02G-P4-2684-KR) I have been refreshing web pages for a couple of days, so I guess persistence works here!

Newegg just had three different brands in stock, they're already gone now. Didn't think to come here and tell you guys. Gone in like 10 minutes. But, yeah. If you're really hunting, keep checking there a few times a day. This is like the third time I've seen them and posted in this thread about it and I'm just casually checking out of curiousity since I'm not looknig to get one.

It's starting to feel like Charlie's comments regarding TMSC and 28nm are validated. Very limited production with no other models in the near future.

So when should I be looking for one of these? Is the demand completely out stripping the supply? Should I just check back by summer? What's the best card to get? I'm currently on a 480.

so is there going to be a 660gt? Like for 199ish? based on kepler?

That's kind of what I'm waiting for. Or maybe 299.

Doesn't look like it anytime soon. From what I heard the only chip Nvidia has anytime soon is Kepler. They're supposed to release the $400 card soon, a disabled Kepler GTX 670. May 10? $400 is still kinda steep.

This has got to be the worst paper launch of all time (680). I cant remember anything remotely like this. Been well more than a month now and still every time I check newegg all 680's are out.

It's out everywhere(except Tigerdirect/Circuitcity.com) unless you want to pay $660 over at amazon.

I ordered the EVGA from Tigerdirect and it's only $20 more than listed. Much better than other pricing it at $150 over from Amazon or any other retailer.

At that price might as well, abhor the thought, go AMD.

People say the 7950 when overclocked to 1200 can hang with an overclocked 680, and they're as low as $370.

Apparently the 7950 is better balanced than the 7970, less shaders but it doesn't really need them. It's also stock clocked lower, but it should overclock just as high as 7970.

Is the supply keeps up like this, I may just hold onto my 570 SC and wait until the 700 series. :/ Don't make me do it, nvidia! I don't like upgrading too far into the "cycle" and having a top-end card for only a few months. And I've already decided that I'm sticking with nvidia. I greatly prefer their drivers.

Amazon just had them for $529. Out of stock again. Keep watching there, that's how I got my two. They come in stock a couple of times a day

I'm not giving up now.

I need to upgrade from my 8800GTS, it's not like I'm buying videocards every year so I don't mind getting a super high end card since I get my mileage out of them.

But I feel like I should wait to see what else Nvidia brings out before purchasing, anyone else doing the same?

I keep checking Amazon several times a day and I keep just missing. Hopefully I'll get lucky soon as I'm eager to replace my 5970.

Edit: Awesome, managed to grab one. Should get here next week. :) Good bye, craptastic crossfire support; hello, GTX 680.

680Ti/700 series later this year with GK112. Might as well wait, you've already waited as long as you have, there's no sense in jumping the gun and picking up a mid-range part.
