all available data indicates the asus will have a very tiny advantage. but both are great.

In the case of the asus, the TOP card is better. if you go asus make sure it is that model, if possible

I'm in switzerland too.
But unfortunately not the ASUS TOP card (ok, 1 but for over 500CHF...)
Where did you look? toppreise.ch?
 
Picked the Gigabyte as soon as it showed in stock, don't want to miss them again like yesterday (although they seem to be in much better quantities now)

My new parts are arriving in the next 2 days, hopefully the 670 won't take too long to follow.

Thanks, so the ASUS is slightly better and the Gigabyte one is slightly cooler.
Only the DC II is available atm, so I might lean for the Gigabyte card... not sure, think it would be best to take the decision in a few days, I'm pretty confident they won't run out.

And i'm just not sure how quiet the Gigabyte would be. What I read about the Asus sounds promising:

What is the expected availability of the 670 in the next few weeks? Scarce? Planning to do a build in a few weeks, might up my budget $100 to get a 670 over a 570.

I see, seems it is really best to wait for the DC II TOP then, it's not like DIII needs a GTX670 to run very well and I was planning to wait some days in any case.
 
I don't mind waiting as my Case and Mobo aren't even scheduled for delivery until the end of the month anyways :p

edit: Just checked my case/mobo on Amazon and they ARE in stock :| No idea why the estimated shipping date was so far away. Went in and changed the shipping speed and then changed it back and now it looks like both will ship on Monday.

Ok, so now they need to release the Asus card already.
 
Is the Asus DCII TOP just the overclocker version of the standard DCII?

What is the advantage of getting the TOP version vs. the standard and overclocking yourself?

Agree...Witcher 2 in Uber at 1080p is one hell of an attempt to maintain 60fps. For example, I have 2x680's in SLI Overclocked to 1106 regular, hit around 1184-1200 boost on each card, paired with a 3930k at 4.6 OC and at 1080p I bounce between 40-60fps. There are very few areas where it maintains solid 60, it mostly going between 40-60fps and this is in the beginning areas...I am sure in the Floatsom (sp) it will average bit lower.

I know someone that is able to maintain 60fps rock solid, but it required 3x680's..so it is possible, but you will need 3 cards for ultimate bliss in that game. Of course, this person is a little miffed because he spent $1500.00 to achive this and now with the 670's he could do the same for $1200.00.

With the money you just spent and it seems like money is not an issue, why not just go 2x690's. You will generate less heat, use less power and less noise than any 4-way 600 series and have equal to or better performance overall?

Cost is the same as 4-way 680's. Depending on the 670's you get, you are looking at saving at maximum is $400, but knowing you, you would not get reference 670's. You can easily sell you 680's at face value or even a slight markup of say $520-$540 per GPU.

Meh, if you had the room to spend 1500 on videocards, I'm sure you're not losing any actual sleep over that fact.
 
Cant believe 670's are still on newegg for 399. It's like, a real video card launch.

Nvidia hurt themselves too though, 680 is in every bit the bad position 7970 is. Course there have been no 680 stock I guess, which should change now.

Once again AMD looks slow, they should have slashed the price of 7950 immediately, wtf are they doing? 7970 I think is actually OK, relative to 680 it's still tenable (especially as I just saw a 7970 on newegg down to 449).

Unless the 4gb model differs you can only tri sli with the 670 series.

Ditched my trifire 5870 setup & now down to a single 5970. Going to upgrade/sidegrade to a 670 as I'm tired of amd crossfire nonsense & throw another 670 in down the track.
Surprised by the 670! Didn't see that level of performance coming. Should arrive next week : - )
 
NCIX just jacked the price up on the Gigabyte by 10 bucks and they don't even have any in stock. I might just stop looking and check again in a week or two. Seems like a fair bit of price gouging going on in Canada right now. Not by huge margins, just on a lot of models.

Who knows...if I were a betting man, I would say it will be good. The fact that Newegg still has 4-5 different versions of the 670 that are still in-stock as of right now and have been since yesterday afternoon is a good sign of availability. Obviously, some of the more sought after cards will be more challenging, but I think overall it will be pretty easy to get one in a few weeks.

Actually he is not now. It just was that initial shock at seeing the results of 670's. He has his 3 680's OC pretty nice.

Funny thing is that Newegg and few other places had some small availability of 680's and 690's and they are selling out just as fast as before. I thought that some would go the 670 route and call it a day, but it appears initially that some folks still prefer the 680's over the 670's.

I'm picking up my Gigabyte at a retail NCIX after work. I bought one as soon as I found out they were in stock yesterday.

I'm tellin you, there is something fishy going on here. I think there's been a serious driver upgrade that they've kept to the 670 to make it look a lot better in comparison than it is. The gap will widen. It doesnt make sense that a card on smaller PCB with crap binned GPU's perform just the same.

This is entirely gut speculation, but I do know that the drivers benches have run on are not available for the 680.

Didn't I read somewhere those fancy Gigabyte fans dont cool the VRM's properly or something? It's why I'm kinda skittish of non-reference designs in general.

I've also read some of those big gaudy fans are actually cheap noisy junk, but I'm sure that depends on the exact brand and model.

Read the AnAndtech review by the way, it seems if I care about Metro or Crysis the 680 would be worth it. Other then that, seems 670 is on par in everything else. Am I missing anything here?

They also lose their performance edge the higher you go up on res compared to the 680.

It's more of the whole overclockers creedo thing - even though I don't necessarily have to watch my pennies, I do like getting bang/buck. Therefore, "upgrading" to dual 690s would be a ridiculous move. Quad 680s has equal performance and I am not 100% thrilled with that performance - hence why I am looking to get 4GB 680s (once available).

Jelly of your 690s though, Hawk269...if I were starting clean today, I'd be there for sure. Probably do EVGA Z77 FTW plus two of those.
 
How well do the 690s perform in SLI? As linearly as a single 690 scales from a 680?
If you keep that set up you'll probably be set until the next-next gen consoles are out :lol

Unless VRAM becomes an issue in the future... I wouldn't drop $1k on a 690 for that reason. I'd go for 2x680 4GBs instead.
 
My 690 order fell through; not enough stock available so, frustrated, I pulled the plug on it. A little disappointed really but I have my 7970 to see me through and we'll see where things are in a month or so. I might wait it out for the 7xx series as my overall goal is still Fallout 4 maxed at 120fps and the 7xx cards might have hit by the time that comes out.
 
Ok, so I get back home 5 hours later, and the ASUS still hasn't shown up!?

Is there any rumor about why there's a delay?

Just double down on the 7970. People are dropping them at insane rates on overclock.net marketplace. I'll bet you can find one for less than $400.

That's not a bad call, I'll give it a think.

I'm still keen on the 690 but I was originally told the 4th, when that rolled around I got pushed back to today and today I hear 'maybe the 16th' so I called time on the date carousel. I'll see if I can deal direct with EVGA from the UK somehow, but I'll wait till the 'burned fingers' feeling wears off a bit.
