1440p with DLSS enabled nets you 41 fps min and 67 fps avg...? I would have expected that performance at 4K rather than 1440p. Oh well... Does look awesome though.

This is either more FUD or something is really wrong with the benchmark. Maybe drivers.

A 3070 8GB could make sense for a 1080p user currently sitting on a 1070/1070ti/1080/2060 and looking to upgrade for Cyberpunk. 8GB will be safe for 1080p/1440p for the next few years.

Seems like there are a lot of click bait YouTubers just creating BS vids or their AMD shareholders lol. 3070 even with 8gig will be fine for high refresh rate gaming at 1080p depending on CPU. Like most users on steam are still using 1080p monitor.
It's all right for these YouTubers to say this and that when there probably using thread ripper CPUs and titan cards, hypocrites really.
Regardless of what card you by this generation it seems you will get a great gaming experience.

I suppose it depends on which RTX settings you want and if you want to use DLSS + DSR.
These are my expectations:
2070 / 2060 super-> DLSS + 4k DSR, no RTX, med/high settings
2080 / 2070 super -> DLSS + 4k DSR, 1 fast RTX setting, med/high settings
3070 -> DLSS + 4k DSR, global illumation RTX, high settings

So what are everyones plans for Thursday?
Hoping I can secure a Founder Edition from Nvidia at 9AM on the dot. Would be nice as I need to work at 10:30 (though my boss knows whats going on and doesn't mind if I roll in a little late).
Backup plan is literally getting whatever card I can find, assuming one is available, minus an EVGA card because I think they're absolutely hideous and I refuse to give them my money.
In reality though, I know I'll probably get screwed when the Nvidia site crashes at 8:59AM and then everywhere else sells out to bots.

Back again on this. So yeah, grain of salt I suppose. So I was speaking to a Best Buy Customer Service Rep today after my experience in store. We ended up talking about next-gen Consoles coming up funny enough. He mentioned he got a lot of calls about the 3080 FE over the phone. He says if you want to place an order, they may be going live at midnight (going into the 17th) Minnesota time since that's where their HQ is.
Then I saw on Nvidia discord:
So I'd definitely be checking then to see if the order goes live going into the 17th. Nothing would suck more waking up and finding out the thing is already sold out.
Is it the case that only Best Buy and Nvidia themselves are selling the Founders Edition?

It's possible (at least via Best Buy) that they might sell right at midnight on the 17th. That's the info I got from a rep very knowledgeable about cards and consoles coming up.

Imagine selling your card in the rush and then not being able to get a new card until next year.
I will sell my old card after getting my new one and putting it through its paces for a week or 2 to ensure it's working as expected. If I lose a bit of money then so be it.

We not have any review leaks yet? Seen linus saying not to pre order and seeing little bits and pieces to suggest the 3080 might not be up to scratch. I see a lot of comparisons with the 2080ti but nvidia were specific in keynote to compare to the 2080. Either way im still in for it as i have a gtx1660, so the jump will be massive for me and i need that sweet dlss in death stranding lol

, but I think Pascal GPUs even as powerful as 1080ti may struggle to run next gen games even at 1080p 
. No hardware decompression, huge performance penalty without HW RT (it's only a question of time when games will require HW RT just to run them and even Turing is up to 7x faster in RT compared to Pascal), no performance saving features like DLSS, Mesh Shaders, VRS.

People with 10 series are the most that are going to benefit from this upgrade. 20 series as we all know by know it was an "experiment" series because the 30 series is insane

Let's be real, the gap has already widen for games with proper DX12. 2080s is properly faster than 1080 Ti in games like RDR2 and Wolfenstein young blood. As you said it's not going to be relevant soon.

That's hyperbolic, and also you mention features which are both not widespread and which are mutually exclusive. Not to mention those kinds of games are still 2 years away at best. Hell, even UE5 is half-way through next year for its limited release and then for Nanite doesn't even rely on mesh shaders in the first place. 1080 Ti will still be a beast for 2 more years, and the only real "weakness" remains raytracing but that's of limited usefulness still - there are very strong rasterised alternatives which will still be implemented because after all consoles are still the baseline and raytracing itself is still very expensive; and ultimately not widespread enough to feel like you're "missing out". Again, looking at the #1 engine, UE5, with Lumen it's still banking on rasterisation and not raytracing, though that option will be available for those who want an extra "mega-ultra" settings tier.

I'm in the same boat. I really want just one gaming machine and debating hard between building a new gaming PC (3080-based) or the PS5. I sold my 2080 ti gaming machine a few weeks back for full value just in time.

I suppose were not that strange when you think where you game on PS5, X Box or PC you play 80-90% the same games.
I'm waiting for this last conference to make a final decision. It's a little disappointing how hard/expensive it is to have a 4k disc drive in a PC however (so I can retire my stand alone player).
Really interested how the PS5 is going to handle backwards compatability... oh and also if Silent Hill rumour is true.

silly me bought a 2080 ti about 3 months ago but i have a pretty good amd thread ripper and mb in a case sitting around from a a dodgy PSU so im thinking i transplant the TI into that build and give it to my son as he is getting into pc gaming

I dont know if it's hardware limitation, or simply Nvidia want to gimp Pascal, but hardware decompression will be not supported on Pascal, just on Turung, and Ampere.
First PS5 games use RT already, so it looks like RT will be a standard even on consoles (of course basic features like RT reflections, but I'm expecting to see more RT features on PC).

3070 8GB as rumored is easily capable of great 1080p/1440p performance over the next few years. The vast majority of PC gamers are on 1080p/1440p monitors with a focus on high frame rate(60fps+). 3070 is like a $500 2080ti aimed at those users.
We'll find out more leading up to October 15th. The only leak I've seen so far concerning 3070 is that it beat a stock 2080ti in Time Spy Extreme(4K). Of course Nvidia was touting it as "more powerful than a 2080ti".

Sooooo I am gunning for the MSI 3080 Gaming Trio X and I have had the page on newegg up for awhile now and refreshing every now and then just to stay on top of it. A few minutes ago it went from coming soon to out of stock, and as of right now it has been removed from the site.

I'm talking about DirectStorage, not RTX IO, which is what RTX IO is based on. DirectStorage is the vendor-agnostic equivalent and is what will be used by AMD & Intel as well (and ofc Xbox). Don't expect to see much difference between the two in actual real world scenarios & especially not in scenarios that a 1080 Ti could drive and NOT at 1080p. And again, it's years away & down to dev implementation - not a universally applicable feature.
Yes, consoles have some gimped RT as well, but by and large they are used sparingly and aren't going to make a big difference. Certainly not to someone who's holding on to a 1080 Ti for value rather than maximum visual enhancements & certainly won't be a deal-breaker for 1080p gaming.

Ampere cards use GDDR6X so that might make some kind of impact. I'm not an expert on the matter but I'm reading that it provides a power advantage over standard GDDR6. How much and to what practical effect I'm not certain, but something to keep in mind.
