Please let me know if the streaming works well. I've heard some people say that there is a lot of lag if you are away from your router. My router is in the room next to mine. So I'm kind of curious.
EDIT: nevermind, I just read back a few pages and the dpad is apparently crap. I might as well just get an attachable controller for my Note 2 instead.
So I called my ISP and we changed some router settings, but I am still getting interference because all their routers are 2.4, and there is 4 more around my house.
So I will go out and buy a new router that has 5.0 frequency. It sucks that I have to pour more money into this just to stream games, but I am already 300$ deep so I can't quit now.
On the plus side, the Android side is working out better than I expected. I only had iOS devices, so this is new.
The device is really awesome, dispite my network issues.
Is the dpad good? Diagonals work well?
I'm considering this mainly for emulation, so a good dpad is important.

Dammit GAF, you are making very hard for me to not buy this device.![]()
Hahahaha me too, want to impulse buy lol XD
Also any info on Dolphin?
Dolphin is on Android as off August 4...but by the developer's admission, it's alpha and will run like crap. I haven't tried on my Shield yet. All the other emulators run great (epsxe, Mupen64, DraStic, etc). I haven't tried NullDC yet.
As soon as Dolphin works well imma buy this haha

So, yeah..I joined this club.
+ Amazing gamepad, this is full controller on a handheld. pretty awesome.
+ Very good screen.
+ Good speakers.
- Kinda big and heavy.
What I can say It's really neat device and do streaming very well, Rogue Legacy work flawlessly on it, playing that game on bed is really something else, I didn't play with it's android side (emulators) but from what I read it might be the perfect device for PSP and NDS emulators.
for me it's worth the money just for just streaming PC games and playing them everywhere (but for people who don't have GTX 6xx/7xx it might be a hard sell).
Try Wi-fi Analyzer (on the Google Play store) - you can use that to see where the other networks are and make sure that you are on a channel with less interference.
But yeah, in my experience, 2.4ghz wi-fi isn't enough. I had to use 5.0ghz. My router is a Netgear R6300.

Mine only makes a clicking sound when I hit up on the dpad, the rest is silent. I'm not too worried about it though.
Thanks, one last questions to ease my mind. Seems like when I rotate the left thumb stick around there is a couple of spots that just feel a little rougher than others. I don't notice it with the other stick. Is this normal, and does yours have the same issue.
I know it seems like I am nitpicking here, but otherwise this thing is built like a brick shit house and I don't want it failing years down the line because of couple of small control input problems I should have had looked into.
Has anyone ordered one from Nvidia? I was considering doing so, but wasn't sure how fast they would ship it. The only reason I ask is, I have only 2 weeks left of summer before I go back. Don't want to tie up my money, and have to wait 10 days to get this (I was going to select over night shipping).
Newegg is sold out, and I don't know where else to buy this from. None of my local gamestops are carrying it. Amazon also isn't selling it.
I wish I could help, but I actually ordered from Newegg and I dont think I would again because their replacement policy seems like a huge pain in the ass and that is why I think I will just live with my clicky grinding buttons. I was looking at the clicky d-pad thread on the nvidia forums and several people were happy with the customer service and quick turn around they received, buy didnt mention the delivery time. I dont want to mention where I work, but it is a pretty large seller that you may or may not have mentioned and I was disappointed that we didn't sale them because I think they have the best shipping and return policy.
edit: I hope you do get one though, I cant stress enough how much in love with this piece of hardware I am and I dont want it to go the way of the N-Gage
Thanks for the reply. I'm excited to get one. Just wish more places carried it. I have no clue what the turn around has been for those that went through Nvidia. I'll probably wait till Tuesday and keep checking to see if any other retailers carry it again.
Tried this out at Gamestop today.
Controls felt nice ad device felt good. I'll definitely buy one down the line.
Hey guys, I'm just about to go for it and import a shield to the UK, but I need to know what is the situation with the power requirements? Would I need a stepdown power converter or does it have a 110v-240 switching power supply? Cheers in advance.
Some games like F-Zero GX still can't be played with full speed even on i7 rigs.
A week with Shield, I really like this damn handheld so much, my "comfy bed" PC gaming experience is about smaller games, like Rogue legacy and first person shooters and it's amazing how long this thing last while steaming PC games it's like forever, I'm used to Vita and 3DS sad 3 to 4 hours but this thing just keep going like the Duracell bunny.
that for streaming I still need to test native android games (any recommended ones from Google Play?) and emulators on Shield.

So you cannot use the PC stream feature if you have an AMD card, correct?
I think it's funny how everyone was trashing this device early in the thread and now everyone is singing it's praises.
Well, most of the people that trashed it never intended on buying it. So now that they have said their peace, the only people left in this thread are those that are interested, or those that are actually buying it.
Guys, do you believe that there's going to be a second version of this device forthe next year?
They are selling these at Gamestop?

Maybe not next year, but I do expect to see multiple versions of this.
I'm waiting to see the model with Tegra 4's successor.

Does that mean only 30fps when streaming to the Shield? The Digital Foundry review has kinda killed the hype for me:
"With a 100ms input latency and a 720p30 update, PC game streaming on Shield is remarkably similar to the current-gen console gaming experience."
Is not bad, but not great either. Fairly behind Wii U's streaming solution, if it weren't for the range and host device/library options. Is still a compelling device, but I this made the wait for a v2.0 easier.
