NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

I don't get this. Is the Titan weaker than the 690? That doesn't make sense. Isn't it more expensive? I'm planning on building a gaming rig after a few months and was gonna pick up the titan, thinking it's the best in the market.

The 690 isn't a single card solution. It'd be better to compare the Titan to the GTX 680 to see how impressive this thing really is.

Ahhh, I see. For some reason I thought the 690 cost $600. Wasn't that the price of the 590? Anyways, sorry for my scrubiness. I don't delve much into PC land. Would it be better to buy this as soon as it's released or will it be easy to find later?

Question : with the dawn of Titan what happens to the 690? Who would the 690 even appeal to considering the benefits mentioned in the posts above mine?

It's a limited run card so most likely the 690 will still be around once the Titan has been discontinued.

The 690 costs $1000 dollars, if I recall correctly. The 590 was probably launched at a similar price.

I too have no idea. Maybe the Titan will be shipped in seriously limited numbers.

I think they'll still be pegging a lot of GK110's for enterprise Tesla cards. They're making out like bandits with those, and they're still hard to find in stock.

Titan will be a limited run, but the 690 was also supposed to be a limited run.

I'd much rather see them discontinue the 690 and have the Titan as their flagship card.

Why?
What would be the best place to preorder one?
No such thing. You'll need to scour the interwebs to find out what site will be putting them up, and when. Then show up a few minutes before, spam F5 like a motherfucker, and complete the purchase within a minute.

Because it's incredibly powerful for a single GPU.

Damn, that feels like a hassle. Might just go for a 680 instead >.>

But, what does it matter what the flagship card is?

Well, it doesn't. If they can keep producing both cards they definitely should, but let's suppose that for some reason can only have one flagship card then I'd rather have the Titan.

Most people would. Titan completely invalidates the 690. There isn't any reason you would consider it any more.

I wonder if Nvidia will come out with a dual GPU Titan card or not since it doesn't have a number associate with it.

From what I gather, Titan will be a limited run. I just hope it's not so limited, that I can't buy one now - and buy another later for SLI. Unfortunately, I'll only have the money for ONE right now, and wouldn't be able to get the second one until April. And because I already have 680 in SLI, it doesn't make sense to get a single Titan.

I guess worst come scenario I buy a Titan, then just sell it brand new sealed to someone else, if it becomes that difficult to get a 2nd one later down the line. Obviously I'm talking extreme scenario. Or I guess...I could just wait until I have the money for both, and buy both at the same time (if they are still available in a 2 months). The latter seems more rational lol.

Guys, is a 2GB 660 Ti going to be enough to drive a 1440p display at 96-120Hz?

Is a 680?

On another level, do I have any chance of hitting 96fps on a 2GB 660Ti at 2560x1440p display in Skyrim, maxed out?

I was really hoping AMD and Nvidia would have a refresh out soon, at which point I would buy the new flagship GPU to game at 96-120Hz, but now it seems like I might need to upgrade from a 660Ti to a 680, which would be kind of stupid (and expensive).

You can do quite a bit for $500 these days; a build that would easily be comparable to what is rumored to be in next gen systems or even a little better.

Example:

Radeon 7950 $279
Intel i5 3470 processor $150
Gigabyte 1155 motherboard $39
Samsung DDR3 4GB RAM $22
Antec Basiq 450w power supply $39
MSI Case $20
320gb WD Caviar BlueHarddrive $45

Total: $595

And that is not shopping around and going with what I could find in 10 minutes of browsing and with all pretty good, reliable parts excluding the cheap case. There is room for skimping/saving or improving it for $30-$50 more or less.

No Windows? Someone just outed himself as a pirate.

Yeah, but it's pretty awesome. I reckon it should hold you over for a long time. 6gb + 85% of 690 x2.
These cards will be the fastest GPUs available until Maxwell and AMD's 20nm cards launch in late 2014/early 2015 so you'll have the fastest card on Earth for 2 years straight if you buy at launch, makes that $900 price seem more palatable since you'll always have the top bragging rights.

Just get another 660 Ti and go SLI http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/10/31/galaxy_geforce_gtx_660_ti_gc_3gb_sli_review/#.URgJxmdC4mk *

*If your motherboard is capable, processor is powerful enough to not bottleneck and your PSU is good enough.

Back on topic:

Anyone got any idea how much these will cost in the UK? Are they meant to be cheaper or more expensive than the 690?

The 690 is £799 here in the UK, if it costs more than that then there's no way id consider it. If its £100-£200 cheaper then I may just consider flipping my 660 SLI setup and get this for some added cost.

Someone compared the tesla card to the 690 version and it seemed a tiny bit shorter and a tiny bit bulkier.

Fuck it i'll get one. If it doesn't fit, I'll just return it. Or upgrade my case.

edit: the 690 is 11 inches long. my 670 Windforce is 10.8" and was not a problem. I should be good to go.

also, it should be able to run any game that comes out for the next several years at high settings even if other cards come out that outperform it. You won't have to upgrade because of low frames or memory shortages with big 2014-2015 game releases, which is a concern of anyone with a 2GB card right now given the memory the new consoles are expected to come with and take advantage of.

The problem is I'd feel compelled to upgrade everything else just to welcome the new card. xD

I'm curious, the GK104 had a lot of features stripped out (mainly meaning double precision performance) that didn't help much in games and those were reserved for professional Quadro and Tesla cards, I wonder if GK110 will perform as well as the professional equivalent in compute tasks?

Erm, so help me out here, is the Titan the first 700-series card or is it just a 600-series card on steroids? There's conflicting info on the net :/

Now that AMD has informed us that they're sitting with 7000-series through the year I'm kinda fearing that Nvidia's going to do the same and basically milk the consumers. I'm kinda perfectly happy with my GTX570, but then again I'm kinda looking for an excuse to upgrade also.

I don't know what they will name it, but basically the current GTX 680 is actually using the architecture they usually reserve for cut down models. The high end model is usually the 110, the mid end is usually the 104. So with the Kepler series, Nvidia must have found that the cut down GK104 was good enough to compete with alone, so they released that as the current high end with cut down features. The GK110 will be the full version of the Kepler architecture.

Are you happy with the current performance of your card? Does this coming out change the performance of your card?

I'm happy with games out currently, but with Crysis 3 and the new consoles around the corner, I doubt that will be the case for very long. Would it be better to just wait for the 700 series?

Since we're talking prices and purchases, how much is a gtx480 worth nowadays? I've seen some on ebay around the 200$ mark. I should have bought two of them back in the day xD

I've never sold a gpu, but if it has some value I might think about it.

Well, another 670 will probably be cheaper than whatever you'll need from the next gen to get over the performance of two 670s, but may as well wait and see how it plays out.

Well, true, but I can sell the 670 and make some of what I'd pay for the 700 series back. :P I've never messed with SLI, but it's entered my mind as of late is all.

Haha, what? Are you saying it's impossible for someone to already own a Win 7 key? Heck, if you have a dreamspark account you get XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 and a bunch of other Microsoft software for free.
