NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

Yeah I know. He is way too hard core PC to go console only. That is why I put the :) and the LOL. But what is funny about what he is doing, there are people out there that are acting like that and beleive fully that their shinny new PS4 will out run the mightiest of rigs. Kind of scary. lol

Ridiculous to think so, but some experiences you just won't get on PC. I'm most likely upgrading from sli680s to sliTITANs, but I'm still going to invest heavily in PS4.

Ah, I think I have a few of those from my Obsidian 800D build somewhere. I was hoping maybe someone had made a bridge kit that would fit those blocks.

Edit: Congrats, Hawk. I got the e-mail while I was in the middle of an SC2 game. I finished it 6 minutes later, and EVGA was sold out. :(

Thanks man. I just happened to check my email because I just proposed to my Girlfriend (yes, she said yes) and was doing a lot emailing to friends and family, so I just happened to check it and it popped up and I rushed to order it.

I my rush to place the order, I did put next day shipping, so I am wondering if will go out today for tomorrow delivery or will I get it on Monday. Eathier case, I am glad I got one. Now just need to wait for my Waterblock.

I agree. I have my super rig and my 360. Majority of games made for both I get on the PC, but some games I do get on the 360 just because i have a ton of friends on my friends list. And then there are the exclusive games that are only on console.

I already told my Fiance that there are Titan's coming and in November new xbox and PS4 and she was totally fine with it...god I love this girl! hehehe

But yeah, there are some experiences you can only get on consoles and I am glad that they are making some pretty decent consoles with lots of memory.

You crazy. But seriously that's awesome, can't wait to hear how Crysis 3 runs on that setup.

So this is not better than a 690 in any way, is it? I'm thinking of upgrading and If I do, It'll be either this or GTX 690, depending on performance...

i5 2500k
2x1tb HDD's
8gb ram 1600

If I don't upgrade, I'll be waiting till 700 series...

I would go with a Titan over a 690. The 690 pushes more frames, but you're still dealing with all of the negative aspects of a multi-GPU setup. With the 690, you're getting most of that performance from a single card.

But it's looking like you'll need two Titans to max Crysis 3 anyway.

Just when I was about to buy a Titan, my Korean Crossover monitor decided to die. Now, I have to use the money on a monitor instead. Playing it safe this time so looking at the $700 Dell U2713HM as a replacement. Or, does someone have a better suggest for 27" 1440p and around the same price?

Damn how long did your monitor last you? Wondering if I made a mistake. Went Yamakasi since it was 599 for a 30 inch 1600p vs Dell at 1k. Dell runs cooler and I assume more reliable. But I personally hate the anti-glare goat they use and yeah 1k!

Damn, dude. I'm all kinds of jealous - wish I could drop four grand on video cards, lol. Congrats! Can't wait to hear impressions, see framerates, and you better take pics!

Out of curiosity, why did you go with 4 of them? Is it more for benching? I know in games a 4th card wont scale all to well. I know that 2 or 3 is the sweat spot, but just wondering what is getting you to go for four of these monsters?

Geeeeesh. Are you using all 4 in the same build? Post pics / benchies please!

I'm sitting here hugging my GTX 660 ti...officially the fastest card that's physically able to fit in my case (Thank you Zotac for making a tiny 660 ti).

Yeah I have three boxes (3820, 3930K, 3970X) to equip these GPUs with. So 4x will be used for benches and shiz but otherwise ill run them in 3-way, 2-way, etc.

4-way is garbage for games.

So serious question. Does GPU ram usage on Consoles directly translate over to PC ports 1:1? I only ask, because something like PS4 will be using 8gb DDR5 ram. I'm not saying they will actually use all of that ram for every release. But if they start using over 6gb, doesn't that kind of screw us...Titan owners over?

I've only bought one. But plan on getting a 2nd one for SLI. Was just wondering if I've already shot myself in the foot.

And yes, I fully admit I'm kind of a bird brain when it comes to some of this stuff.

What is funny about this whole thing with Titan is that before it came out almost every forum that talks about GPU was bitching that they would not sell at anything above $800.00 that people would find them easily and that there would be no sell outs. Well, they were wrong.

Secondly, anyone else shocked to shit that they became available today? Especially since EVGA had pre-order just yesterday. There are some people over at other forums that are outraged that they were not aware of this stealth availabilty. A lot of people that spammed the shit out of Evga and spammed this morning are at a lost that in the middle of the afternoon Evga had them and about 2 hours later Newegg put them up. I think what shocked them even more up until about 3 hours prior to them going on sale on Newegg, they had the ASUS version for pre-order with a 2/28 availability.

Like I posted at Evga, I am going to go buy a lotto ticket now with my good luck today.

1. Got engaged! Yay! :)
2. Happen to check email and just seconds before Evga posted they were available
3. A few hours later, happen to go to Evga forums and within the minute Jacob posted the Newegg link.

So today I proposed to the love of my life and got my two new GPU's! With that luck, I need to get to Vegas like NOW! :)

I'll probably have a much better GPU by the time games start using more than 6gb vram.

Well, I would not worry about it too much. Prior to the 8gig announcement for the PS4, the rumor was it would only have 4gb of GDDR5, but that about half of that or so would be used for the OS and all the Social Features. With the bump, I would think that the max available for games would be around 5 or 6, which in theory would make it interesting for a PC port since most PC gamers have GPU's with 2, 3 or 4gigs of Video Ram.

It will be interesting to say the least. We need to see what MS is doing, the rumors are also 8gigs of Ram but DDDR3 instead of 5.

The RAM in the PS4 is 8 GB TOTAL for the entire system, so the CPU and GPU have to share that.

The 6 GB of VRAM on the Titan is dedicated for the GPU. I'd say the average Titan owner has, at minimum, 8-16 GB of DDR3 in their system already.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just going to stop worrying and enjoy what I have. Can't wait to get my 2nd Titan.

Btw congrats on the engagement. That really is incredible. :)

Titan has less Ram but it is much faster so it shouldn't be a problem. Also you are comparing dedicated VRam to unified ram which means that some of the ram will be spent on non-gaming resources for the PS4. With that said, powerful consoles will only help PC gaming by raising the bar for multi-platform games.

What's important to realize about the PS4 is that it's using a really crappy (compared to Intel Core i7) AMD CPU design and at best midrange (comparable to Radeon 7850) GPU design. So all the memory bandwidth on Earth can't make the comparatively wimpy CPU and GPU go any faster. I would not be terribly concerned about future-proofing if I already own a machine with Core i7 and GTX 600 series GPU, it's already faster than the PS4 right now and 8 GB of GDDR5 won't be much of a concern when your PC already has 8 GB of DDR3 RAM for itself and your GPU has some amount of VRAM. It won't be 8 GB of VRAM but it's not as if the PS4 game is using the entire 8 GB of shared RAM just for textures or something, far from it. The PS4 will be using a significant amount of the shared RAM for OS, game functions, etc. which would be on the PC's main system memory and then the remaining RAM will be used for framebuffer, textures, etc. which would actually be using your PC GPU's VRAM.

I do think that VRAM usage on next generation multiplatform games will see a big time jump thanks to PS4 getting 8GB of memory.
I would not worry if I have Titan (I will, but keep missing out on pre-order, damn it), but it would be interesting to see how the GPUs with 2GB or less VRAM would fare.

You shouldn't be that confident, before the start of this generation all the demanding PC games in 2004-2005 like Doom 3, Half life 2, Fear etc had a minimum requirements of GPUs with at least 64-128mb of Vram. Now every single PC game has a minimum requirements of at least 512mb of vram, hell Crysis 3 has a minimum requirements of at least 1GB of vram to even run.

Well, it's only been nearly a decade :p

Crysis 3 came out in 2013. I would certainly hope that you will have upgraded your gaming PC at least once between 2004-2005 and 2013.

To help shoot down those going cray over the PS4, check out the review of this laptop - the MSI GX60:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-GX60-Notebook.86283.0.html

It's running an AMD A10-4600M CPU (similar to the PS4) and it has a Radeon HD 7970M (approximate to a desktop AMD Radeon HD 7870) - it gets creamed by laptops running Intel CPUs with a similar GPU. Mind you, these are mobile GPUs so even the top-end 680M is around a desktop GTX 670 (at best) - so Titan will blow this out of the water. Nevermind the desktop CPUs versus these mobile chips.

There's just really no comparison.

With that said - the PS4 will be a BEAST of a console and I applaud Sony's moves thus far. It looks like it will really kick ass. Linux, 8GB GDDR5, and x86...bravo.

PC hardware already smoke whatever next gen consoles might have but that not the point, the problem is VRAM. VRAM always fuck PC gamers over the years and I think it will do with the start of next gen too.

I remember how Lost Planet: Extreme Condition run like shit on literally every single PC back then because the game had a minimum requirement of 256 mb of vram.
