NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

Underclock the cards. See if the crashing stops. If so, you got a poor bin. Have it my 580 also. Need to RMA it. Struggles to run at stock speeds.

Screen goes black and requires a reboot. Once I Lower the clocks enough, all is well. Same with memory in the GPU.
 
My GTX 680 Lightning from Newegg arrived today. I put it in my already-prepared machine and played around with it. There was something fishy about this card, it shipped with a stock BIOS that dated all the way back to 7/5/12 and it had a manufacture date of 5/3/12. The thing ran hot as fuck at stock clocks, revved the fan up to 100%, and then promptly crashed MSI Kombustor with a driver reset error. I think Newegg is trying to foist a defective refurb card on me. Fuck that, I'll demand an RMA and if they try to send me another piece of shit card I'll just return it for a refund. I've spent thousands of dollars at Newegg over the course of nearly a decade, and this is the first time I've gotten burned like this. What the hell is this shit, Newegg?

I'll try this. I'll try anything at this point. Yesterday when I tried to disable SLI, the screen went blank it never came back. I had to restart and it looked as if there were no drivers installed. Sure enough after logging in that's exactly the message I got "No Nvidia GPU detected". So I had to go through the process of uninstalling the 314.09 drivers, and then reinstalling. Then it happened again when I tried to disable SLI. The only other time I had an issue like that was when I had my 690. Disabled SLI and it did this fun dance too.

Outside of receiving my cards it's been a great few days.

I'd reformat before getting too antsy.
 
Ok I'm a benching n00b, please enlighten me: when Heaven tells me that Graphics is: 1350MHz, it can't really be running at that clock speed can it? I'm adding 148 offset in PrecisionX.

I'm already past the antsy stage. Having literally thousands of dollars worth of equipment (not even including the monitors) not work properly when things were fine for months is a rage builder.

So I'm going to stay up as long as I have to after work and see what's going on. I'm going to put the 580s and old drivers back in and go from there.

that Heaven number is incorrect unless your stock boost is a record-breaking 1200 :p

use the PrecisionX graphs to keep track of the numbers in the background

Man, that really sucks Smokey. I also had driver reset issues, albeit in one game only so far. So maybe the 314.09 have some issues?

And try that, yes. I've had so many issues with the damn SLI bridge. I've had to reseat, turn it around and all kinds of things before my setup started working correctly in my previous build. Luckily all this can be done while the machine is running for quick testing.

And try that, yes. I've had so many issues with the damn SLI bridge. I've had to reseat, turn it around and all kinds of things before my setup started working correctly in my previous build. Luckily all this can be done while the machine is running for quick testing.

We'll see tonight when I go back to the 580s and 314.07. It's not outside of the realm of possibility that it's a .09 issue. I understand that it's the first driver set for Titan etc but come on. This is a perfect example of why I'm always hesitant to let my 580s go.

Well I hope that support team is ready because I'm about to flood the hell out of this form over the next 24 hours. At least it will make me feel better.
 
So I was gone for a few days with my Finace to Disneyland and California Adventure....When I left, Smokey was laughing at the thought of SLI Titans and Mkenyon was going to wait out on getting a Titan.

I return and Smokey is sporting 2xSLI Titan's and Mkenyon has a Case Labs and a Titan on the way. What the hell happened when I was gone????

LMAO. I have a lot to do today, but hopefully later tonight I will finally be able to play around with my 1st Titan to test stuff out, then test my 2nd card hopefully starting tomorrow.

Anyword from our Nvidia guy on the next driver for the Titan? Also wondering if they are going to incorporate the Titan in the normal drivers or are Titans' going to have their own drivers?

Lastly, any issues running under Windows 8? I decided to go with Win8 when I installed my new SSD's, so just wondering if there are any issues with it and the Titan's current drivers.

Sort of Freudian slip? Women take your money I understand. It sucks. At this point in my Titan experience seems Nvidia may have done the same to me :l

I always had two Titans on order. I was just messing around with one card while waiting for the other to arrive.

Heaven gives me inaccurate boost clock readings on my 680. Sometimes 100+mhz off.

Reformatting takes like an hour max. Even less if you're only talking about a few games. Full Win 7 installation is like 10 minutes from restart.

They released bad drivers a month ago that had problems with SLI config in the 690 and 680, when you cold booted your PC Windows start in low resolution and without video drivers saying that no NVIDIA card was installed on the PC, the only fix was reseting the PC, they fixed a few weeks ago. Maybe the new drivers are bugged for the TITANS.

Not just the reformatting process. the RELOADING process.

Downloading and installing apps, putting files and folders back in appropriate locations, setting up all custom tweaks, setting up custom app features, etc. etc. etc.

Yea if it's just a gaming computer with nothing but games on it, it's fast. If it's...your do-everything machine like mine are, it takes me several hours to get back up to 100%.

i want that to be a last resort. The w7 install doesn't take long but getting everything else back up and going is a bitch.

Ninite. Have your drivers, OC/monitoring utilities on a flash drive. Do a format and time yourself. I think you are thinking it's more intensive than it really is.
 
So what would be the best case to fit an i7, a SSD, a full size HDD and a couple of these things? Trying to figure out if I can get away with a mATX case, or at least not get something that is a complete eyesore. Also, will I need any type of special mobo to output HDMI with 5.1 LPCM audio along with the video from one of these cards? I'll basically be using this as a Big Picture Mode gaming machine.
 
Was reading some stuff on other sites and found some intersting things about the Titan. Since the Titan has a ceiling for total power draw of 265w and that is when it caps, having a lower fan profile and not messing with the memory OC gives you a better chance at hitting a higher OC on air. If you think about it, if the card is looking at total power draw, running the fan higher will draw more power to run the fan...so curious that if this is the case, I am sure you can pick up some core speed on water since there is no fan power draw.

Smokey or any other Titan owner, try not OC the memory and see if you can get a higher clock on core.

Nah brah. I format and reload about every 6 months. It takes a long time every time to do it right. But I live on my computer, so I may have more files and apps installed than the average.

Even looking at my task tray, I have 22 apps that load at start, half of which need custom configurations. It just doesn't happen fast.

A Corsair 500R would work great. I'm using mine with an H100i and it fits and works great. Plent of room and you can swap out the HDD bays in case you only need to use 1 of the 2 racks.

I may be biased but I went with that case and it's easily the best one I've dealt with and I've had a few good brands.

Do you only have a single volume/partition?

If you keep the Windows partition to OS/Applications only, it makes the transition super smooth.

I've heard running the fan off of a mobo header or even straight power allows for a higher OC.

Fractal Define R4 with a few extra/replacement fans. Define Mini would work too, but cable management would be a bitch.

No, you don't need a special mobo for HDMI audio out.

Just installed the card. Tried Crysis 2 which runs like a dream, looks unbelievably good in 120Hz mode. It's like a whole new game compared to the stuttery mess it was with my 6970s

They also reduce clock speed and voltage to stay there, on top of simply relying on the heatsink. I'd rather something stick in the 40s-50s with a consistent OC, but I'm extremely picky. 99% of people (myself included) would never notice it. It's just a little number that bugs me because I know about it.

It doesn't reduce clock speeds below stock. You enter a power target which aligns with the temperature and it allows for much greater clocks based on the heat. Which is the point of Boost 2.0.

It was the 6xx range that started to reduce clocks at 70*
 
I don't want it to decide for me. My silicon will clock at whatever speeds I tell it to damnit. It does not have the option of defying me!
