NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

See, still too much wiggle room for my liking.

I just had a really frustrating time going for benches when you have to soothe kepler in just the right way. "Oh, no, run the fan off a motherboard header so it thinks it has another 10W TDP of headroom". What kind of witchcraft is this?

Damn kids need to get off my lawn too.

nice! I hope a large fan design comes out soonish :)
There's always the Prolimatech MK-26 and various Arctic Cooling solutions.

Yeah. I stopped using temp as the cap and switched to power @ 106. Ive never seen the card get above 99-100 though. Highest my temps have gotten is 85 when I've done this.
Hmm, didn't know this was an option to choose between the two. I should read the GPU Boost stuff more in-depth :).

Does this give you more OC room if not using temp as the cap? Or does it just provide a more constant usage at max OC?

Good News....Just checked my account with Frozencpu.com and my pre-order EK Waterblocks just updated to shipped with a Tracking Number! YAY! I am waiting for the Tracking No. to be updated to get the ETA..I did pay for 2 day shipping, so hopefully Monday!

For me it was just a more constant usage. Reading some stuff over at OCN, people are still trying to figure out exactly how this card works. You tell it to offset by one number, and it does it at another. It's also down clocking for some reason. Your boost will be 1175mhz for example, but it will DC to 1150mhz when neither the power or temp threshold has been met. People are also hooking up the fan to the motherboard for extra headroom as MKenyon said.

It really is ridiculous for such a high end card like this.

Regarding my issue...I think that Precision may be having issues with the new drivers? I've been playing BF3/C3 for a couple of hours now...with Precision X off and had no crashes. I could quit one game, go to the other, and there were no issues (as you'd expect in a normal situation). I enabled FRAPS to see if it would cause instability and the moment I tried to take a picture...boom...game froze, all 3 screens went black, and I had to reset. Somebody at OCN tried as well and he said when he tried to load a game up in Origin with Precision/Afterburner on it crashed. He closed them and retried and it worked.

Your doing the Lord's work here Smokey...keep it up. :)

The more people can get to ther root of the issues, the faster Nvidia and partners can fix issues!

I've had no issue with FRAPS, PrecisionX and Crysis 3. I haven't played BF3 though. I'm able to take plenty of screenshots in Crysis 3 as well.

I figured it's not a wide spread issue or we would hear more about it...but it's happening to me. Will probably be a waste of time to even fill out that form that Andy posted as they probably won't be able to recreate it.

I can't play Crysis 3 at all when I have Precision X on (with my GTX 690). If I turn it off, I can run it. But it still crashes. I've resigned myself to waiting out a patch or two. Still into BF3, anyway.

Ah okay, thought you were gonna go permanent quad which would be a shame.

My bad.

I'm thinking about dumping the 3930k build and focusing on 3-way between the two remaining PCs (3820, 3970x). I just love my CM Scout 2 case so much. It's hard to go back to the NZXT Switch 810.

Blimey at the price of this thing.

I haven't really been paying attention to the AMD/Nvidia warz for a while. Is AMD crumbling? Or is this astronomical price just a once-off thing?(ie. do we have more barely sub-1k$ cards to look forward to from Nvidia in the future?)

Is it the max TDP of 265W (106%) that keeps the clockspeed down? Kinda makes watercooling it useless other than to get it whisper quiet.

You will pick up some wattage from not having a fan that draws power from the total 265w available. The higher you clock, the higher you run your fan to keep it cool. The overclock sucks up juice as does the increased speed of the fan. With a Waterblock you have no fan to draw power. Plus, there is nothing bad about running your card(s) cooler at the 32-40c range versus the 80c+ without a waterblock.

I did get my FedEx tracking number and will be getting my blocks on Tuesday. I am off on Wednesday, so that gives me some time to set up the loop, leak test and see how these do under water.

Going to cross post this here and in the Titan thread.

I a bit conflicted on what to do so looking for opinions....

Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I only do gaming on my rig and that is about it. I have 2 Geforce Titan GPU's that I am about to add to the rig, already have Win8 running, but for gaming and gaming alone, would Win7 or Win8 be better?

I know that I will be getting the New Xbox when it comes out and I do like how Win8 intergrates with the current Xbox so that is a plus, but overall, for just gaming would Win7 still be the better option? When I upgraded to Win8 it was such a pain in the ass and took forever due to issues. If Win8 becomes more prominent in the near future, I don't want to go through the hassle of doing that again, but at the same time, I do want the best experience and rock solid compatibility with my Titan's and the operating system.

So what is everyone's opinion on this?

Thanks!

After having a few games not working in Windows 8, some requiring special launchers and some that didn't work with ENBs I decided to stick with Windows 7. W8 just isn't worth it at all.

What might these games be? Personally I wouldn't go back to 7.

Mostly my simulator shenanigans. Cliffs of Dover needed a special launcher, however that didn't work if you used any sort of injector. Some issues with a tank simulator, some older games giving me problems that worked in Windows 7. It was sporadic but enough to make me reinstalled Windows 7. Also the GFWL issue which means you have to do some hoop jumping to get it working.

However most big titles should probably work.

Go with the OS you prefer based on your experience. They're about the same price now, so it's really a matter of preference.

This card isn't even on the price/performance curve. AMD is actually killing it right now with all of the free games, but Nvidia remains king of multi GPU configurations.

Win 7, but since you already have Win 8 installed just go with that and hit the ground running. Most issues/incompatibilities should have a work around, if not then... oh well.

It's nice to see that Aquacomputer is still in the business and making beautiful (and effective) stuff. Back when I used a watercooling setup 8-10 years ago I went with their hardware and it never gave me any reason to regret that decision. I should still have the CPU, GPU and northbridge block somewhere -- with the fun part being that the latter two are the same size ;)

I...

what?

I find it kind of hard to believe that you can call anything a waste.

It's pretty simple. It's like modding a car...to each their own..that's your hobby. But, when it comes time to re-sell, most buyers don't want all those mods OR a car with a modded history. Never mind, that in this case, there's minimal to gain. This has been so since the 680s.

For me, re-selling is important. It's how I can keep running top end. I get about 75-85% back when I move on to the next...

Well, it's not like you can't take off the waterblock, and reattach the stock heatsink. Watercooling isn't a permanent mod to the hardware. It's just like adding an aftermarket cooler to your CPU.

It's nice to sell your hardware with the warranty intact, increases the resale value.

I don't think EVGA voids a warranty if you add an aftermarket cooler. I had to RMA 2 of my 680s after adding the Hydro Copper blocks and they didn't have a problem with it.

Here's the EVGA warranty. They only state that it will be voided if you remove the serial number sticker, or if you don't reverse any aftermarket changes to the hardware.
