NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

Shit's getting intense in here. Can't wait for the actual release, going to be bloodshed. Either people will be celebrating, or drowning in a pool of tears.

The 50 year old car will be worth the same or even more in 5 years. This video card will be $15 on eBay.
Not saying a hobby should be an investment, but they don't necessarily compare.

While that is somewhat true, the people who buys this will probably sell them at a good price in a year or so when new and better stuff is out to help fund the next purchase.

Sure. We could argue all day about how silly these prices are, or the price/performance ratio.

But why do people care so much - how others spend their money? I think it's really bizarre when people try to define what something is "worth" to someone else. If you don't think it's worth it, then don't buy it.

Hell.... What's after Maxwell. I think with 2 of these cards I'll be able to make it through Maxwell and Maxwell's refresh and wait for Einstein to hit... unless the Maxwell refresh doesn't hit until 2017.

Which is why in the end I feel that this is what I'll be doing more than likely. Just sell to fund upgrades to better cards without having to pay full price. We'll see how things will go. I don't see Maxwell hitting shelves until 2015 so I'd probably sell them instead of waiting forever if the flagship card then is considerably more powerful since GPU don't hold value for crap.

Don't worry, the rumored Wii U XL and its 5 tflops got ya covered.
Haha, NAIVE! No need for XL, Iwata has his finger in the switch that'll activate Wii U's Custom Sauce™ all over the planet when that sweet moment of justice comes even the white U should easily pass 5 tflops... no sweat baby.

This thread always gets me, every bump makes me believe the Titan is already released XD

I actually think the current 680 cards will hold people over for another 3 years, honestly (but lol maybe I'm just naive).

Titan + the 700 series is if you are trying to get the absolute best performance + have the hardware to utilize it (like higher resolution monitors or texture mods). It all just comes down to the new games though. In the next 2 years, we'll have to see if these next gen games really push these cards. If it's a big enough gap, then I could see an absolute need to upgrade (if say, 680 or 690 actually starts yielding poor performance, or are being knocked down to high or medium level settings). So yeah, if you get two Titan's, pretty sure you will be set for a while. Then again, I guess we should never say anything is set in stone. You just never know.

There is never guarantees in this kind of hobby. That's why I hate the term "future proof".

BSN reports:

The rumors are turning into a pre-launch mountain of news. According to popular technology websites, on Monday, February 18th at 12:01AM EST

The chip itself is clocked at 875 MHz for reference clock, even though the two select vendors (ASUS and EVGA) have the option of custom clocking the parts. For example, ASUS GTX Titan allegedly comes clocked at impressive 915 MHz. We did not receive any information on Turbo mode for the card, nor for the power consumption. You can expect that the power consumption will be significantly higher than Tesla K20X, given the increased clocks.

Furthermore, the GTX Titan comes with 6GB of GDDR5 memory. You've guessed it right, this means the GK110 has all twelve 32-bit interfaces active for a grand total of 384-bit. Given that the memory is clocked at 1.5GHz QDR, end result is "6GHz".

12:01 EST

Anywhere you can plot in that time and see what exactly that equates to times around the world?

I hate timezones, they confuse me :(

It's 11:01 CST, and 9:01 PST.

I don't know if mountain time still exists, or if people in such zone have computers. If you live somewhere else in the world, you should move to America, because I don't want to figure out what time that is elsewhere.

Need some of that GMT +1 / CET :P

So my reading's really bad because I am playing too much Fire Emblem and can only think in grids and "ting" sounds... did that article say anything about what day they're expecting these cards to be available? I skimmed it and didn't see anything super useful, but uh... ?

All we can assume is that they will be available for purchase when the NDA lifts. If I hear otherwise, I will of course update the thread with that info.
Think it's in front but thanks for the specific hours, did some research and it appears to be at exactly dinner time here.
No, it's definitely behind. Spent a lot of time in the Balkans, was always 8 hours ahead of home. (PST)

*edit* Forgot about daylight savings time. So right now it's 1 AM in Ljubljana, 7PM in NYC (EST).

Apparently my brain just did a somersault. Yes, GMT +1 is ahead of America's timezone - I thought I read behind as in you were in front ... Again, fucking timezones.

Fucking Sethos....you are on a roll in this thread. lol :)

Can't tell you how hyped I am man, sitting here refreshing, checking 10 different hardware shops, refreshing them a few times an hour, giggling and then refreshing this thread.

Picking up a single Titan shouldn't be a problem if you are prepared, however 2 might be a problem. EVGA, as mentioned, will probably limit it to 1 per customer and I really don't trust all the smaller retailers throughout Europe to get any sort of stock. Danish shops never get dick.

so are you guys buying blind or waiting for the benchmarks ?

I think I'll just sit this one out :p unless MSI made a Lightning edition Titan ... hmmm voltage adjustments

Yeah, I am starting to read more and more and am getting excited. For me it comes down to timing. I work at 6am PST on Monday and I don't have Internet access at work, so it will suck for me. My only hope is that it goes on sale at a different time on Monday, otherwise I will be screwed.

Any chance this goes for less than $999?

edit: got damn. adding another 680 is starting to seem like the more reasonable upgrade path for me, rather than sell it to upgrade. At least until we see 7xx (if that even happens this year).

For all intents and purposes you can't buy one until the benchmark are out anyway.

well when you've read a review or two you're probably too late as well lol

at least when we're talking Newegg/EVGA ... Europe is probably different (i.e. googling around for obscure German webshops if the Sandy Bridge launch was anything to go by)

They'll be sold out by the time you glance at the 3DMark score.

No choice really to wait.

Some people have been throwing around a $799 figure. If it's $1000, I'm passing on it and grabbing a 7990 instead.

We are all hoping that it does. I think many of us "crazies" won't bite if it is over $1000.00. Although, nothing "official" has been said, rumors suggest this Single GPU Titan is only 10% slower that the Dual GPU 690 and the 690 sells for $999.99. So, one would think that it would be lower than $999.99. Since there is no competition for this card Nvidia can charge almost anything and they will probably sell. I, myself am hoping for $899.99 and I want two of them. My GF and future Fiancee is on a Cruise until the 22nd and I guess am going to go out on a limb and get two of them if I can and if the price is below 1k each. I will deal with the ramifications later! :)

As I said earlier in the thread, when it comes to the significant other, it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than to receive permission.

lol.

My GF/Financee (im proposing on the 23rd) has been very vocal about me getting what I want for my hobby. I dont drink, do drugs, do the "hanging out with the boys at bars/strip clubs". I work hard, I like my Home Theatre, my gaming systems and tweaking and upgrading my PC...that is what I do to relax. She loves that and has been telling me to not hold back as long as I don't cause a payment to go unpaid or not pay the housing. lol.

I can sell my 690 pretty easily and recoup close to the cost of one of the Titan's depending on cost.

Yeah, I lucked out on all the hubbub over gun laws. Bought an AK for $400 about 5 years ago. Sold it last week for $2K. Sold two 670s for $600.

Granted, already blew a big chunk of that on Aquacomputer and WC goodies for my next project. If only I could finally settle on a case now.

Well, I just sent a few emails to the presidents of a few on-line shops to secure 2 Titans. When I was shut out on Evga.com on the GTX - 690, I was able to get 2 from an on-line store within a few days. I did have to wait a little because Evga sent the cards via ground shipping from California to the East Coast, but once they got it they overnighted the cards to me.

So if I strike out on Newegg/Evga or the timing is such that I cant, I might have a backup plan from at least 2 different places to still get them...that is if they get them! lol

and another in Europe

GeForce-GTX-Titan.png

which comes out to $1,300 USD

You can't really do a direct conversion from our prices in Scandinavia and guess what the price is going to be, we always pay way more for stuff than Americans do.

Just as an example, the 670 DC2 4GB is $459 on newegg.com, here in Sweden it is about 3800kr ($600). So we pay about 30% more than Americans for the same thing.

Couldn't you just buy a 690 for $999?

If you wanted more performance than a 690 you would have to get another one and deal with the horrible quad-SLI. If you get 2 Titans it's just regular SLI that is much better.
