NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

OC numbers look pretty good, but were they against also overclocked cards?
Load noise (since you need to keep it cool) important to me (Though it really should be underwater). Not that I can buy one :(

Either way, headed to bed. Looking forward to info when I wake up.

I think the point of Boost 2.0 is to show NVIDIA are for overclocking now. Does OCing still void warranties?

copper because EK's nickel process has quite the "reputation" :p



hmmm those benches look good for a single chip card ... but I have a hunch that there is not much left over 1.2 GHz no matter what cooling you use, as they are probably voltage limited not temperature limited, just like the GTX670/680 (the Titan power usage sits just a bit above 680 power usage after all).

Adding watercooling didn't really change the overclockability of reference design 670/680 cards, so I don't see why that would be the case now (unless that 1.2V limit can be much higher in the future, but that itself is doubtful because of comments Nvidia made in the past).

Personally I'll probably stick to my 670 SLI setup as it is significantly faster than a 690 when overclocked (and I play 1080p), but that 8GB PS4 announcement does make me slightly less comfortable than I was yesterday ;) let's just say that if MSI announced a Titan Lightning edition my cards would go up for sale today ...

Some brands cover OCs. I think one of the older company plans actually covered added voltage as well. Don't think anyone covers voltage mods now.
 
You know PC-GAF has come a long way when a thread about a new ultra-high end GPU reaches 17 (or 34 if you swing that way) pages.

I'll need to see more reviews (i.e. farme latency), but i'm surprised its still ahead by 10% when Titan is oc'd, even in bandwidth and RAM heavy scenarios.

Edit: +1 on the driver front.
 
The 690 is a sweet card and anyone who's planning on buying a single slot GPU like the Titan should get the 690 instead, in my humble opinion. However if you are serious about adding an extra card down the road or going SLI off the bat then the 690 is a poor investment, as quad scaling is money straight out the window.

And if you care about price / performance then you wouldn't even consider the Titan in the first place :P

Oh and random tidbit;

"Now read this very carefully, the board partners like MSI, EVGA and others get to decide whether or not you may unlock Voltage control. Inside the NVIDIA driver you can opt to unlock Voltage by agreeing to an EULA. That EULA will try to make you understand that applying higher voltages will decrease the lifespan of the product. So if the GeForce GTX Titan has been built for a theoretical 5 years productivity at 1.162 mV then tweaking the Voltage towards 1.250 mV could (in theory) halve that lifespan. Now here's the good news; unlocking the Voltage will not result in losing your warranty, let me be very clear about that. However, if you have a 2 year warranty and after 3 years the card dies as a result of voltage tweaking and thus the reduced lifespan... that would be the consequence and at your risk."

Wow the Ares II kicks all sorts of butts in BF3!
Anyone know if the AMD chips are any good in running UE3 stuff? Looks like a good option!

Edit: Apparently Nvidia still performs much better in UE3 games, so that's that!
 
Hmm that overclocking performance is a bit disappointing. But theoretically would driver updates improve performance?
 
All EKWB were already sold out as soon as the page went up. I figured it was because of them just taking preorders, but I got this in response:

I'm thinking that all their partners get first dibs to resell in their local areas. Hopefully either FrozenCPU or Performance-PCs will post blocks up soon.

I'm diehard EVGA so I'd prefer that route. They have been real good to me. A lot easier to deal with for RMAs/etc. than ASUS in my experience.

I went for an ASUS 690 and while it is practically the same as the EVGA card I'm kind of annoyed at my decision. ASUS are not releasing an updated UEFI VBIOS for their card to support fast boot for Windows 8 while EVGA and even MSI have already updated their cards for those that want the feature. ASUS's support in the matter has basically been a (rude) brick wall. It's a shame because I like ASUS for everything else.
 
Yeah, think I'm out. If those benchmarks are legit, it seems like the advantages at 1080p would be pretty negligible over a 680 Classified... so for me, I guess it really isn't worth it. Especially if the $1000 prices I'm hearing now are correct. Oh well.
