This card alone has me pumped for the next gen and to think nvidia and amd will out do something like this in a few years has me thinking.

We welcomE anyone into the discussion, but when your first post questioning and/or lumping everyone in the same financial group and then begin to question how someone could afford this GPU just does not come across all too well. Beleive it or not, all of us have different jobs, we all don't work for minimum wage. Some of us are in high paying jobs and are a bit laer in our lives where we can afford these kind of toys.
For myself, I have already bought two Titan's and am expecting them on Monday/Tuesday and just got done installing 2xSamsung 512gb SSD's into my rig. I don't have a lot of expenses and don't do any drinking and/or other expensive things.
Just don't lump all of us into the same group and then come into a thread and question how some of us can afford the Titan or 2 or 3 or even 4 depending on who you are in this thread!
Except you and your ancient GTX 580s

In the last two years, I think the longest I've kept the same video card (s) in my main rig was 3 months.
I've got it bad. Though, B/S/T on Overclock.net and Sk3tch's leftovers makes this not very financially painful.

I've swapped out nearly every part at least twice in the past month or so. I'm not going to even attempt to future-proof this thing.
The thing about the future is that we don't know much about it...and it really depends on your setup. Three HD monitors require a lot of raw power to drive them.

Consoles are fixed platform targets. Most games now are made with consoles as the targets. The Titan has 6 GB of VRAM, which means it can handle games made for PS4's 8 GB of shared memory.
Honestly I think if you have the money, buying a Titan over a GTX 680 which has 2 GB of VRAM is a solid investment in a future where the 2 major consoles both sport 8 GB of shared memory which may be used in unpredictable ways.
Nevermind that when you decide to move on or upgrade (even if its in a few months) you'll get around 75-85% back in the used market. Video cards retain their value really, really well - compared to other hobbies it's not that hard to get in once you plop down that initial investment. You basically pay a small fee to rent and have the top end all the time.

Not to discuss the PS4 ram again (I know we are all sick of it). But on the off chance that next gen games start actually using more than 4gb of ram - I would think GPUs would have to start including higher ram as standard. I agree I doubt it will be 6gb. But it has to at least be 3gb, given that 7970 had that. I think 3-4gb standard on the 700 series sounds about right (but what do i know).

I'm thinking about picking up an MSI GTX 680 Lightning because I don't feel like playing roulette to try and buy a Titan before it goes out of stock again. Apparently this particular card can hit 1300 mhz core clock with the unlocked BIOS, does anyone have any numbers on how such an OC on GTX 680 would compare to the Titan?
I saw some posted somewhere...may have been this thread or it may have been at hardforums.com - but it's still a 20% or so lead for the Titan over a hugely OC'd 680 like that. 1300 is not that tough for a Lightning. I had a couple of them and they're awesome. I'd go used if I were you - there will be people upgrading so you can probably save $100. And honestly, a Lightning isn't even necessary. You can OC even reference 680s pretty decently. Maybe not 1300 MHz but if I were you I'd just get any 680 and you'll be happy. That extra ~5% of performance won't do much for ya.

Well, I'm also a fan of the MSI cards because of their custom cooler solutions. I actually have an MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II as one of the 470s in my gaming PC and an MSI GTX 450 Cyclone in the HTPC. So I like how they run quieter and cooler than reference cards. I'll look into a used one, but at this point the lowest GTX 680 on Newegg is $439 after rebate and the Lightning is $499 so I'm willing to pay the extra $60 and really the money saved going used is largely immaterial, I would rather have a new card with the full manufacturer's warranty.
Well, I wouldn't buy one expecting it to last 3 years. Nvidia's next arch (Maxwell) is supposed to be a pretty big jump and judging from the leap in performance they are aiming for I think the mid-range part could even come close to matching a Titan. But that's not due until 2014.
I'm in the same boat. Going to wait for the 700 series most likely.
Are you dead set on NVIDIA? AMD really has the best single GPU card for the buck...and the story is no longer "the drivers are improving, the next release will really fix things" - it has happened and they're kicking butt. Plus, they're dedicated to the 7xxx series as top end for 2013.

When it comes to the non reference coolers these days, ASUS>Gigabyte>MSI, out of the big boys. HIS, Powercolor, Club3D, and Gainward all have great coolers too.

ok, so I got Crysis 3 and at 1080p all maxxed I am unable to get 60fps constant with 2xmsaa.
I have a 4gb gtx 680 stock. Would I be better off getting a Titan ( or 2) or getting another 4gb gtx 680? Price isn't an issue but if were only talking a small amount of FPS advantage with two titans vs two 680's then it may not be beneficial to get two titans.
Anyone have any advice on this?

I have a 670 now and while I love that card I would love one of these bad boys. I could easily save the money for one but I don't think it's worth it TBH. Maybe for some people but I can't see it being financially viable, I could do a lot more with the money.

Titan has slightly worse 99th percentile frame times than SLI 680s.
