NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

That is CEO Kaz levels of, 'Oh Damn!'. lol

After processing all this for some time.

Nintendo obviously would have liked to launch holiday 2016. It´s where the most money in the shortest amount of time is made. So either parts of the NX hardware which they absolutely want to have in there simply aren´t ready for 2016 in the amount of units that they want to launch with or Nintendo wants a better launch line-up. I´d almost want to say it´s probably a combination of both. Like, launch with fewer units and sell those few units out and have shortages and have one or two launch titles not ready or launch in March with the consoles that they want and have those other games ready for then.

I´d prefer the first since i´m on twitter and gaf all the time and i would have gotten one pre-ordered anyway (if i liked what i saw) but i think it makes sense. Not preferable mind you but it can work. It´s true that the most systems are sold during holiday season, but still, consoles sell all year around if it´s desirable. Shit, wasn´t the PS4 selling 1 million a month worldwide for the first year worldwide? Not saying it will happen to the NX but i don´t think the launch period is really this detrimental as some people make it out to be, if it´s a good console that people actually want to buy. Launch being in March itself isn´t making it DOA. It´s DOA if it´s a trash system.

NX not being at E3 is a mindfuck for me. It will be the next Nintendo system and it wont have an E3 appearance before launch. That´s crazy just thinking about it. BUT, what will they do instead? Are they going to do something like PSX? A press conference + floor space for press and regular people for the announcement where they can try it out right after? Is Space World making a return? Is it gonna be just a direct? Will it be just a press event like the PS4 and Xbox One announcements? Doubt it would be TGS or Gamescom.

When are they going to reveal the NX? June and before are out of the question. July probably too, since if in July, why not just at E3? Oh man.

What will E3 2016 be like? Zelda the only playable game on the floor. Like, damn. Not even Paper Mario? Not Pokemon? What are they going to announce? ARE they going to announce anything? I mean, NX isn´t there, so no games announced for it as well i´d think. Or will they?

Like, "here´s this awesome game, it´s coming to the NX March 2017. "
"Excuse me Reggie, but what´s the NX?"
"You shut your mouth"

I´m hopefull, i´m worried, i´m hyped, i´m disappointed - my emotions.

I will put this out there. We do not know what the main hook to the NX is, even through all the patents and rumermongering. If it is indeed something amazing and extraordinary, which it very well could be and, as they have mentioned before, they do not want their competitors using said idea with their new consoles, then it might make a little sense why they wouldn't show it off at E3... In a vague kind of sense.

Think about the Xbox One and PS4 reveal. Imagine if the PS4 was originally going to also have DRM built in? They could have seen the Xbox one reveal and had a day and a half to alter their presentation to remove that aspect, then just day 1 patch it out or something. Hell, they kinda did that with the video aimed at MS about how to share games.

If Nintendo is being secretive, whether it is deserved or not, it would make some form of sense to not show it off until both Sony and MS show off their "upgrade consoles".

While I think it's a weird decision, the delay only pushed launch back about 3-4 months, and I would rather have an event solely dedicated to revealing it that way they can talk about other things at E3.

There are no worthwhile Nintendo games coming out until March 2017 (at least for me, but I'm sure many people feel the same way). That's insane. What is going on at Nintendo?? Did Kimishima fail to execute whatever plans Iwata had laid out?

I mean, they weren't doing great with Wii U to begin with, but these constant delays and nothing to show for it makes me think there is some bad management leading to all their plans turning to shit.

Excited for their E3. Even though the console won't be there I like that they are focusing on Zelda.

It's quite shocking to me that they are missing the holidays but this stuff is complicated. Granted the NX is what I believe it is, I'll be there in March buying it day one.

ugh :(

When I woke up, I expect to see thread title NX WILL LAUNCH FALL 2016, NX info REVEAL AT E3.

NX won't be at E3? What are they going to show at E3 then? Only Zelda and new Amiibo announcements? VC games?

I'm still excited for it but damn. :(

I guess that's good they don't want to rush the NX and give more development in games time.

This news sorta sucks, I was really looking forward to learning what the NX is--I took three days off for e3.

On the other hand, there are plenty of 3DS games I'm looking forward to. NX news may have made me forget to buy them. Hopefully they build their lineup with some more late localizations. (I'm looking at you EX Troopers, Rocket Slime 3 and the rest of the Kunio Kun games.)

Edit: Does it actually say they won't reveal it at e3? If they could just show off the functionality and some games, even if they aren't playable, that would be enough for me. I just want to know what the damn thing is.

They want to make sure the NX has games.

So wtf have they been working on for the past 2-3 years? They can't show some tech demoes, and show few zelda clips of it running on NX hardware?

They can't talk about the system? Sony did in February 2013 and didn't even have it in final hardware specs.

There is no fucking excuse to not have some kind of PR plan for when things go south in your manufacturing or whatever.

To not at least fucking talk about it in some form to build excitement and hype is the most stupid decision I'v seen by them thus far and they have been fucking stupid for along time.

What is the Hyped feature(s) of the NX that is so secret to not show it this JUNE? Something competitors could integrate into their upcoming systems? Maybe the feature is easily copied and needs to wait until its closer to launch? So confusing but I know nothing about business strategies.

They said "at the end of the year" so expect November/December for dat NX

I was joking about their PR.

This sounds worrying. Maybe they want third party games at launch and this winter is too soon?

Probably so.

This gives them the opportunity to actually have a launch release of games like Madden and FIFA as well as the usual autumn/winter rush of third party games.

If the system isn't ready for this year, it's probably for the best to delay.

LOL. Top 10 Wii U games of 2016

1. Star Fox Zero
2. Paper Mario: Color Smash
3. ehhh Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games?
4. Heeeeelp

Haha the Wii U will probably have the weakest yearly lineup of a console EVER.

In fact Nintendo hasn't really released a decent console game since Splatoon in May 2015.
When the NX finally releases it would have almost Two full years since Nintendo has put out anything worthwhile. Talk about a software drought of epic proportions ;-)

Twilight Princess HD, Pokken Tournament, Tokyo Mirage Sessions

Yoshi's Woolly World was great and that's after Splatoon. And don't forget Super Mario Maker and Xenoblade Chronicles X. If 3DS is counted then Fire Emblem Fates too.

So it's pretty bad but let's not be hyperbolic. This isn't the weakest lineup ever. Nintendo itself have had worse than that.

The delay doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I never expected the NX this year. What does surprise me is the NX not being shown at E3. That is baffling, and just stupid.

Doesn't mean they won't unveil it in their video (or live presentation if they go that route).

This will make two straight consoles that Nintendo has left to fester and die before the launch of a new one.

I can't help but think about why I care so much about them as a presence with consoles. They have fucked up so much that they are basically a non-factor. There is nothing to point at increased third party support. No rumors. No hints. So, this is yet another console they probably have to carry and they have shown that they can't. And hell, at this point, we're just assuming its a console.

Never thought I'd say this but I actually feel sorry for Reggie, not to mention the rest of the NOA reps who will have to deal with this insanely embarrassing situation at E3 thanks to Kimishima and the rest of the incompetent crew back in Kyoto. No playable games. Except for the Wii U version of Zelda. Not even new 3DS games?

Kimishima said:
“At this current stage, I’m not able to say,” Kimishima replied. “However, it’s not merely the successor to the handheld 3DS or stationary console Wii U. This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking.

The fact that he says stationary and handheld is pretty telling that this is going to be some kind of tied portable/console shared ecosystem thingy (if there was still any doubt). Whether that is handled on the software or hardware side I have no idea. Still going by Iwata's statement of no hybrids til shown otherwise.

This sounds worrying. Maybe they want third party games at launch and this winter is too soon?

It sounds more like they want a stronger line-up and avoid what they did with the Wii U than anything concerning.

Wii U's line-up wasn't very good at all and was based on merit and hope that the IPs would be enough. What was offered was very weak on Wii U's launch, and while I still very much loved the games given it was not and will never catch the audience they wanted both core and casual alike.

So it sounds like they're bolstering up the NX line-up to make it stronger and with games people will want like a big 3D Zelda and a host of other things. 3D Mario is due next year too going by the development time tables.

Doesn't mean they won't unveil it in their video (or live presentation if they go that route).

They already said last night it won't be revealed until later this year.

I really hope Nintendo ups their first party games this time.

Mario Maker was awesome, as was Mario Kart. But no new Zelda, no Metroid, Star Fox took 4 years.

They already said last night it won't be revealed until later this year.

I stand corrected. Still, I do think they'll have other games available behind closed doors for select press members. They just won't make them available to every random person who shows up at E3.

this doesn't make much sense to me. they're positioning Zelda as the premier launch title for NX, shouldn't they talk about the NX and that version of the title? it's not like Zelda Wii U is launching first, it's at the same time. if I were Nintendo I'd focus on Zelda in the context of the NX. so really both, and get people excited for the new console.

I was mad, now I am not. There seems to be a multitude of reasons to not do this, but I think there are more games. However, since those games are all linked to the NX you cannot show them, as that would spoil the reveal. I look forward to actually knowing what the system is sometime in late summer/early fall.

Now as to why they dont show NX at E3? I dunno man, I guess they want some time to themselves, explore the world and shit.
