NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Holy shit at the doom mongering in here. People aren't kidding when they say GAF loses it's collective mind when this stuff happens, lol.

I feel like we still don't know everything so I don't see too much reason to lose it just yet. We seem willing to latch onto anything that'll make us cry that Nintendo's dead, lol.

Saltiest thread I've ever seen. I always kinda wanted it to release 2017 since that would make me feel like my Wii U purchase was worth it.

A 4.5 year lifespan is fine by me.
But is there really much of a point to an extra six months if all you're getting is Paper Mario?

Zelda being the only game playable at E3 DOES NOT MEAN it's the only game they will be talking about during this E3.

I'm like 100% sure they will be announcing more stuff for the WiiU.

You guys need to relax a bit.

The stupidest part of this is Wii U Zelda will almost certainly be the inferior version...

So they are devoting a whole show to a version that most people won't be playing if their plan goes right...

Stupid.

YUSSS

wii u christmas 2015 purchase redeemed!!!!

honestly, this is awesome to me. Gives me enough time to appreciate all the wii u games I still haven't played yet before moving on next year with the new nintendo generation <3

But you had first off say what you are and why your view of things is more worth than mine. Because you are an developer.

I don't run around and tell truckers i'm a bachelor of logistics when they talk to me.
Your opionion is your opninion but it doesnt mean it is true and i need to agree because you are someone from the industry.

I didn't say I was a developer. Read the post again in context.

Definitely need to save all these threads for the future crow eating thread that'll get made when every one here spewing "doomed!!!" posts about buying and enjoying the NX.

So what are other consoles that released outside of the holiday season? Seems like a very weird move.
Especially if the PS4K will come out this Christmas, when people have time and money to spend and play your new toy.

That doesn't mean what it meant 10 years ago.

Also it's, again, not about THE EVENT ITSELF.

It's about how much run it gets at large, on social media etc etc.

Again: it's Nintendo. Nintendo can hire a man called bowser and that shit gets play on social media. Compare at E3 when they'd be fighting for column space. Nintendo have been pursuing a 'we do our thing, come check it out' strategy for a while now.

Holy shit at the doom mongering in here. People aren't kidding when they say GAF loses it's collective mind...

Stop right there, we all gave our own thoughts and opinions.

I think these are all good and valid choice, with the possible exception of Zelda being the only playable title on the show floor. There are a lot of little thing that some people forget to consider, and some are more passionate than others.

We truly are at a "we have to wait and see" stage.

NX for March 2017 is the best they could've done, in my opinion.

Nintendo is trying to sell the most amount of WiiU they can before NX releases.

Why would you want people to buy more Wii U's and then feel burnt three months later because the new thing is out?

Why would people buy a Wii U knowing that the new Nintendo thing is a few months away?

Why would people buy a Wii U when it has next to zero software support and is still nearly as expensive as X1 and PS4?

What I thought too. Sony didn't announce their system at E3, nor did MS. E3 is no long the place for big blowouts on some stuff as many have their own ways to get their information out when they feel ready.

Why do you think Sony and Microsoft still show up and do press conferences at E3?

I'm actually getting worried for the company now. Something really bad happend with their plans this year. I wonder if we'll ever know.

its possible chipset manufacturing is delayed due to other contracts. for instance if apple wants something everything else gets put on hold.

however the most likely scenario is that no software is ready. rumors of Nintendo porting wii u games as filler is a good indication of this.

really sucks to hear about Zelda

But I have yet to play or finish:

Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Zelda WW HD
Zelda TP HD
DKC TP
Bayo 1
Bayo 2
Star Fox 0

So I have some things to play until NX comes out. Looks like I won't be keeping my Wii U once those games are completed though.

Whatever.

If you have product thats not finished, do you:

A. Release an unfinished product and hope for the best

or

B. Delay it to make sure it's the best possible version of the product you want to real ease?

Now I'm pretty fucking pissed off that they're not talking about this at E3, so pissed off in fact that I'm probably not getting any sleep tonight. But I see the reason why they're not releasing this thing in 2016. If it's not ready it's not ready.
.

The bolded is my biggest problem. If it's not ready...what the fuck have they been doing behind the scenes for at least the last three years? Releasing a handful of truly good games for a console that they severely fucked up several aspects of - great.

This is what it has seemed to come down to with Nintendo for me over the last six years. Third party support? Please understand. Delay after delay? Please understand. Crap VC and online infrastructure? Please understand. Limited and halfbaked support for the pad screen on Wii U, the centre piece of its USP? Please understand.

I love Nintendo. I owned a Super NES. I owned a GameCube. I owned a Wii. I support their great titles when they come but in the end it felt like it was like getting blood from a stone and I just walked away. I admired them from afar but Jesus, their attitude makes it so hard to continue being hyped for their products

Gutted it won't be out for Christmas. But trying to think positive and maybe it'll be worth the wait for extra polish on the console and games for a great launch.

Just hope the ps4k comes out this holiday instead.

Terrible news though, such a shame.

Ive been picking up the few Wii U games i wanted to play on sale and debating getting a Wii U. it just seems like the best option is to wait and hope foR NX to be BC with Wii U games.

The reactions in this thread are pathetic.

no they aren't.

No new home console until march.
March home console launch.
No Wii U games incoming.
Zelda delayed.
No E3 show for NX.
No E3 show for nothing.
Only Zelda at E3.
Two major IPs coming to mobile, to fill that (intentional, at this point?) gap.

I mean: it is pretty clear how Nintendo is dimantling its (previously) core home console business.

Pack it up.

Actualy, it make sense.
March 2017 will be the opening of new fiscal year.
So all the sales fo new Zelda along with Nx sales will be accounted for 2017 only.

march 2017 is the end of the fiscal year. this is why march gets stuffed with games sometimes. they have to release it then or else face a really horrible year on the books.

that's why i think nintendo's in a really awful spot for nx. pushing it to the end of the fiscal year could be a sign that things aren't working out as planned.

Sad thing is I can see MS launching a new console at the end of 2017 which will nullify anything Nintendo releases at the beginning of 2017.

Why not just wait another year till the new generation consoles come out?

Was never going to buy an NX in 2016, but it would have been nice if Zelda weren't pulled back to 2017 because of it.

Also believing some guys tweet is always dangerous. There could be misinterpretations, mistranslations and so on.

Something else too is that I imagine Kimishima is having to do more than we think behind the scenes. He's business and likely shifting everything. Reggie also spoke about this being a transitioning time for Nintendo as well. New buildings, restructuring, merging software and hardware divisions, getting into mobile. This is still transition for Nintendo and to the NX that been going on for the past 3 or so years now. Not something only said last year by Reggie.

Also don't forget the rumors about the NX is likely getting ports of the 4 best Wii U games. They've been shifting for awhile due to how terrible the Wii U has been doing and from other things looking to standardize. I'm curious about the specs and what Nikkei said.

Actually March is the last month of the fiscal year. So NX will only count for one month of their current fiscal year.

So what are other consoles that released outside of the holiday season? Seems like a very weird move.
Especially if the PS4K will come out this Christmas, when people have time and money to spend and play your new toy.

Hasn't happened in NA (where the holiday cycle means the most historically) since the Saturn.

Nikkei reporting that NX "Features, price, software at launch and other details to be announced by the end of the year"

This is a bit off from when they said they'd discuss NX "not too late into the year."

Going back to this whole E3 thing. I am very surprised that they'd separate Zelda from NX for E3. I would've thought Zelda would be a huge selling point for NX (and heck, they're delaying it for release on NX so that must be the plan). Really seems like a wasted opportunity, not bolstering the NX reveal with a Zelda blowout. Oh well.
