NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

AMD confirmed 2 new releases this year tho. So that means its MS and Sony.

MS and Sony's E3 will overshadow Nintendo so badly its not even funny. The NX will have a horrible launch. Seriously how could they not launch for the holidays? Everyone this holiday season will spend a bunch of money on new consoles. That is the perfect time to release hardware. Why the fuck would anyone go out and buy new hardware again shortly after in March? Not showing anything at E3 is probably the dumbest thing they could have done. Something is seriously wrong with this company. They just dump all this info an earnings call Instead of having an E3 conference for their fans where they announce everything. Like they wanted to kill off any hype for this thing. They just don't give a shit.

Did they say this year or this financial year?

Literally all I was expecting tonight was to get something along the lines of "We will talk about NX at E3." I thought there was no way I could be setting expectations any lower/more realistically. But Nintendo proved me wrong.

Something clearly went very wrong behind the scenes. That's really the only situation where this bizarre scenario makes sense.

If you think really REALLY hard about the past year of the company's history, you might remember that something did go very wrong indeed.

That makes sense. It seemed to be too quiet so far, even on the rumor front.

Edit:

The not at E3 news is more surprising. I suspect things aren't going exactly to plan if they aren't ready to show by then for a product coming out in 10 months later.

I get that third parties likely wouldn't be ready if they haven't received dev kits until recently (or at all?), but this implies Nintendo isn't ready either.

Hey brehs just remember worse case scenario is Nintendo saying they will not announce any NX info at E3 and its not launching this year

Like it's still possible so don't get too hyped, this is still just a FY meeting

"NX is in development"

"That is all"

Where's my tag change?

The bolded is my biggest problem. If it's not ready...what the fuck have they been doing behind the scenes for at least the last three years? Releasing a handful of truly good games for a console that they severely fucked up several aspects of - great.

This is what it has seemed to come down to with Nintendo for me over the last six years. Third party support? Please understand. Delay after delay? Please understand. Crap VC and online infrastructure? Please understand. Limited and halfbaked support for the pad screen on Wii U, the centre piece of its USP? Please understand.

I love Nintendo. I owned a Super NES. I owned a GameCube. I owned a Wii. I support their great titles when they come but in the end it felt like it was like getting blood from a stone and I just walked away. I admired them from afar but Jesus, their attitude makes it so hard to continue being hyped for their products

This plus 1000.

Sometimes I feel, like, how can they even disappoint me more?

And then they easily manage it somehow...

no they aren't.

No new home console until march.
March home console launch.
No Wii U games incoming.
Zelda delayed.
No E3 show for NX.
No E3 show for nothing.
Only Zelda at E3.
Two major IPs coming to mobile, to fill that (intentional, at this point?) gap.

I mean: it is pretty clear how Nintendo is dimantling its (previously) core home console business.

Pack it up.

You may have a good point. WiiU was Nintendo's dreamcast confirmed.

Considering how much booth space they have they ought to at least have an Nindies section if they're really only going to have Zelda playable.

Do people not have other consoles to game on? The Wii U is pretty much dead, but it seems as though people can't understand this.

That's not the point. I do have a wiiu and PS4, but my Wii u is collecting dust. The console is gonna struggle for another year and that shouldn't be,especially now. Nintendo is moving onto NX, and its obvious, but Wii u is just here taking up space and costing money with little to no support. That isn't just a thing to accept is natural.

I still don't believe it's a console.

Everything about their new "strategy" points to a complete transition to mobile and handhelds.

Still Zelda on NX make me think it will also have a way of being played on a big screen.

eh, nintendo's not going to rely on two mobile apps as their new backbone. i think they really wanted nx out earlier but couldn't make it happen. i think the same happened to 3ds (probably targeted fall 2010 initially) and wii u (i would assume this was fall 2011 at first).

I'm not saying that they are intentionally investing R&D and development budgts to a console just to make it fail, but it is what is happening due to the way they decided/was forced to handle it.

Seriously. This is one of the worst possible ways they could have done this.

Imagine: A BRAND NEW (gorgeous?) ZELDA HOME CONSOLE GAME TO BE FULLY SHOWN AT E3! PLAYABLE! IT WILL BE THEIR MAIN FOCUS!

and still, due to the circumstances, nobody cares or is even thrilled by this.
I think this alone would be enough to judge hardly as I'm doing their strategy.

Are they simply insane or is this some sophisticated ruse?

Calm down man it's okay, just deep breaths.

How the fuck did you gather that nonsense?

Didn't come out at the same time. Neither did DKCR. I know Nintendo's history with down ports. But if they downport Zelda U to NX, the NX is DEAD. They would be insane to pull something like that.

Agree...

An inferior port on NX, even if it's a handheld or whatever, would kill the system in the USA.

So, the NX version presumably has to be superior....

Which makes the decision to spend E3 highlighting the Wii U version all the more baffling.

March release means they miss the boat on the next COD/Fifa/BF/TF. Which if they are going for an expanded user base well... better luck next time.

Only enthusiasts care about E3.

A personal event is the better way to announce the console in the year 2016. E3 is not as important as it used to be.

Only Enthusiasts actively follow it, but it's a huge chance for media to get their hands on upcoming titles and information regarding what companies in the gaming industry have planned, and shape the narrative surrounding upcoming releases for months to come. It's a media event more than anything.

March 2017 isn't all that bad, no news at E3 is much worse. Wtf.

If they're not going to announce NX then, they sure as hell aren't going to announce games for it. Theres nothing for me to be excited about now. Other than Zelda, which is now delayed too.

I don't even get what's so wrong about talking about it at E3 if they're planning for March. That's about the same distance from announcement to release as the PS4 had from February to November.

Don't worry guys, they've got this.

I remember back when another company launched a console-handheld hybrid and everything turned out just fine.

How about in the West where consoles actually sell?

March is a crazy month to release a new home console. I just don't see it getting the sales it would releasing closer to Christmas being the hot new item for the holidays.

It's 3 months after Christmas it's a horrific time to launch anything only people who will buy it are the hard cores.

So what does this mean for tree house live? Is it dead this year or are we just gonna see a crap load of Zelda? It has to be dead right? :(

They could be showing non playable stuff as well. There are a lot of localizations coming to 3DS this year. Have them show off Monster Hunter, Rhythm Heaven, Dragon Quest, maybe expand out to 3rd party and show SMT IV:A. Maybe they can throw some surprise DLC announcements for Splatoon, Mario Maker, etc. We also could very well get some surprise announcements to fill in late this year they can show. Nothing Zelda big, but they always have some cool surprises smaller games. I expect a shortened show, but they could have enough stuff to run it this year.

If you think really REALLY hard about the past year of the company's history, you might remember that something did go very wrong indeed.

If you mean Iwata's passing then I wouldn't think that'd have a major impact. There's more than him running that show and making decisions. The plan would have been underway already.

You're not a Nintendo businessman, why do you care about how much it is costing them? If it's just sitting there collecting dust, then why don't you sell it?

You're repeating points so it sounds worse.

Fire Emblem is not a "major IP", it's just a good choice for mobile, just like Animal Crossing.

It's more clear that gaming people here overract because they can't hype up the E3. If they show it or not won't change the release date either way.

Noooooo! I'm going to be depressed for real because of this, I really wanted new Nintendo hardware this year, and no Zelda either, this is awful. :(

Probably games to make sure it's a bigger blowout. Game production for Wii U is largely halted, Nikkei rumor of halting Wii U hardware production may also be true too.

Might even give enough time for Splatoon 2 as well.

If you think really REALLY hard about the past year of the company's history, you might remember that something did go very wrong indeed.

I mean, yes that obviously happened, but something about this seems very recent. They made a big deal about Zelda still being 2016 late last year, and even Trev's leaks were clearly pointing to 2016.

Saw it coming. So much for a 3.whatever year lifespan for WiiU.

I suggested this might happen a few times but people really shouted it down. I especially thought the 3DS wouldn't get replaced until a normal end of a cycle, being 6 years or so. And this seems to confirm both predictions.

Next I think we find out in a year that Zelda WiiU is for WiiU and ain't coming to the NX as a port or anything other than backwards compat. Rumors been wrong as hell about the NX man.

Edit: Looks like Nintendo themselves confirmed a dual version of Zelda? At least that rumors safe, the rest are up for grabs lol

These are literally the worst plans I've ever heard from Nintendo.

Ill keep repeating myself.

The NX will be the base of their business for the next 10 years. If it isn't ready, it isn't ready.

Why do people keep putting everything into E3, like it's the only way to announce hardware or games.

It's the same silly mentality when they announced no more stage shows. They will have no presence at E3! They are giving up!
