NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Yes, otherwise they wouldn't put Zelda on it? Nor would Square Enix prematurely announce Dragon Quest would be on NX either. Remember that?

Depends what you call a console.
Vr isn't a console but you could also play those games on it.

You also have stream functions for playing games.

Not saying that this will be the nx.
But saying it will not be a replacement of wiiu/3ds, sound like it couldn't be a new next gen console. Otherwise this sounds like someone would say: "ps4 is not a replacement for ps3..."

I really think it will be March 2017 for a handheld, holiday 2017 for the console.

That's enough time to see how those power bumps affect 3rd parties and how well received they are at $400+ from holiday 2016.

I think that will determine at least some of the power and spec target of the console and handheld.

Having a slow coasting 2016 isn't the end of the world. They shouldn't rush their next move.

This makes no sense. If you assume the PS4K is coming out at the earliest in November (which the rumors actually say will be Q1 2017) that is no time at all for Nintendo to make major production changes to a console launching in Fall 2017. At this point, whatever they've decided hardware spec-wise is what they are with going forward. Moving the goalposts constantly just means the system never gets released.

So they are going to release WiiU Zelda on discontinued hardware.

Just think about that for a second...

Discontinued or not, the Wii U version always only still existed to keep a promise. So, I don't think it really matters. Heck, TP GCN was exclusive to Nintendo's online store in Japan.

Of course, it makes it even more weird that they are showing this particular version of the game...

I'm speechless. Nintendo is dead to me right now.
And they were the ones deciding this. They simply decided to fade into irrelevancy until March '17, when they will probably launch a DoA system, considering how they struggle to gain/collect support for their console and how an home console to be launched in March, in low-season, will surely see a HUGE drop in sales from April to October.

Unbelieveble.

It sounds like "The DS is our third pillar" when they said it wouldn't be replacing the GBA.

Literally the same shit.

Yeah and Nintendo is doing the same except E3 doesn't fall in between the NX reveal and when it launches...

I hope you're being sarcastic, here.

Sony and Microsoft intentionally did their release events right before E3 for the specific purpose of hyping people for their E3 showings. It's basically the exact opposite of what Nintendo is doing with the NX, which is not showing up to E3 with it at all until it's already on the market.

The PS4 and XB1 pre-E3 events were basically just them saying, "These are the systems. This is the hardware. Tune in to E3 for actual games and news on pricing, policy, and release." They were absolutely still "E3 Reveals" for all intents and purposes.

It was posted a good while after Nintendo announced Zelda was delayed into 2017. There's nothing cool about going "OMG, Nintendo actually have it listed as 2017. LOL, LOL, LOL. Are they fucking serious? XD"
Except it wasn't "a while" at all.

You seem mad.

Not sure if sarcastic or not, but that's the worst part of it for me. They'll just ditch a console if it doesn't sell as well as they'd like. Not a good image for me.

Nintendo usually releases new consoles in 5-6 year cycles, so Wii U is only half a year short of a normal cycle.

I don't know how you can seriously say that after last year's E3.

Activision, EA and Disney won't be at E3 this year. Nintendo will barely be there, and Nikkei reported today that Nintendo will hold it's own NX event this year.

sounds like they will do a full unveil at an event like Sony did with the PS4

from Nikkei:

任天堂は27日、新型ゲーム機「NX」を2017年3月に国内外で発売すると発表した。特徴や価格、同時発売するソフトのラインアップなどの詳細は年内にも発表するとしている。

the features/specs and price of NX as well as details about the launch games will be unveiled this year.

No NX at E3?

No faith in the product confirmed. They have to show something. You don't go from your worse console in terms of sales to announcing you have a new system in the works that will be totally different, be 2016, then say 2017 and no E3 2016 showing.

I mean the actual console doesn't need to be present but having nothing to show 8 months before launch is beyond awful planning.

I think it's too late, well, if Nintendo at least had games for Wii U this holiday season it would be better, but it seems like Wii last year.

What, pray tell, was Nintendo's internal deadline for this? Did they release one?

Nope. I doubt at this stage they even know themselves.

They have a dart board with random dates on post it notes. Every now and again they close their eyes and throw a dart.

Wow talk about knee jerk reactiona lol.

For me this is extremely good news. Nintendo knows the wiiu is a lost cause and are shifting to the NX. They will lose a fair bit of money but they still have the 3ds, pokemon, miimoto and their other mobile enterprises.

Second, moving the NX to 2017 bodes extremely well for the system's power profile. For me, this almost confirms that it is going to be using some fairly cutting edge shit instead of rushing to market which we should all be happy about. This news definitely supports the use of polaris thats for sure.

Exciting times ahead for nintendo.

Oh this brings up one more question. People were port begging for Final Fantasy VII:HD Remake Part 1 to be launched day one with the NX. With the actual release of the console being so late, I wonder if Square Enix would even bother to try and port it in time.
INB4 jokes about FF7:Remake even being released let
. Then again this will be in developers hands a lot earlier, but I wonder at this point if they just see it as an afterthought.

I don't know why you thought the VII Remake would be released before March 2017, but that is just not realistic. No matter when NX was planed to be launched, VIIR Part 1 wasn't coming until late 2017.

E3 is not as important as you think it is.

Ok, but the nds was something different as the rest, same with wii.
Them saying it, means we can expect something different from them.

It's just to be safe, if it fails.

That has to be a mistranslation.
There is NO FUCKING WAY that Nintendo will only have one playable game at E3.
That would make less than zero sense. Nintendo may be stupid, but they are definitely not borderline retarded.

I love Nintendo, but I wouldn't put it past them unfortunately... I seriously doubt it though. They'll have plenty of 3DS games plus they'd have to have something else for wiiu... Surely?!

I don't even know if I expect it in 2017, but I'm hoping they release it. I'm saying that with a console releasing that late if they would even bother start porting to it. They don't even know what the install base will be. Depends on how easy porting is to the system I guess.

Thank goodness they avoided disappointment.

Yeah that's good damage control, 1 month 1/2 from E3, lots of informations, shut down the rumors and gives a calendar for the reveal and the launch.

But damage control means that there is damage because that's two E3 in a row where there is almost nothing AND people want to see what's next : concept, specs, games, controller, anything.

They better have something huge : solid line-up, big specs, third-parties support and useful concept (between the home and the handled), otherwise it will be real disappointment.

Big problem here is that people expected NX to be properly revealed at a special event before E3, or a E3. Nintendo prefers to have the event AFTER E3, so that means they have next to nothing for E3 and people doubt Nintendo will fulfill the deadline they just gave.

I hope we will get a circa period for the dedicated reveal event soon. Preferably at the Q&A tomorrow but at least don't let us wait for ever - now we know the release date, letting us know the schedule can't do much harm surely?

I'm guessing relatively early this fall.

Everything points to the console coming first. If Zelda is released early 2017 it would be a launch title for the NX, and I highly doubt it would run on a handheld.

How would they keep the hype and momentum going for 8 months if they did show something though? Especially it with VR, ps4k and Xbox 1.5 potentially coming out? I just don't see how they keep that steam going for that long. Better to not show anything at this point.

A Nintendo Direct or announcing it at a Japanese trade show/investor meeting where they dont give 2 shits about consoles anymore will prove you wrong!

It's timed exclusive on PS4 anyways, NX wouldn't see it until 2018, and S-E would already know if the fan base is already there or if it's just not worth it. If they want to test the waters, I expect a XV port on day one would be more realistic.

Wii U will have a second dead holiday.
I guess Nintendo really wants the NX launch to be full of stuff because it seems like bleeding money to have just Color Splash this fall.
Yep. Activision and EA won't be attending E3 at all, which speaks volumes about how the event is losing relevancy.
Oh, that explains why EA had no conference this year.
The issue I really have is now with digital media, there is no need for E3. It made more sense before the internet was fleshed out.

Super interesting. Surprised they will miss the holidays, but now I believe they will do a simultaneous release of the console and handheld. I rather not have a botched launch anyway. Really surprised it won't be at E3, but if they want to do a full blowout at their own event I don't see the problem. Playing by their own rules.. I like it

How can you tell they are planning to release the home console in March??

I Mostly agree wit this. Missing holiday season is pretty disappointing, definitely for Nintendo themselves, but it definitely isn't the end of the world some posters make it out to be in here.

2017 can mean any goddamn thing. It's most likely a NX launch game, but we don't know for sure. If that were the case why not confirm it as a launch game, while you just confirmed the NX for March?

I guess they are playing it safe.

As for the NX. How farfetched is it to believe Nintendo got 'scared' when they read the reports about a new PS4 and perhaps a new Xbox? But then i wonder, would these extra few months be enough time to make drastic changes?

And not to forget AMD. They recently confirmed that three SOCs were coming for consoles, didn't they? Maybe those aren't ready yet? Isn't PS4K/Neo planned for early 2017 as well?

What scares me though is the....''brand new concept.''

I don't know if I would laugh if they were dumb enough to name it Wii something AGAIN.

"Another Wii Addon!?"
