NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Wow talk about knee jerk reactiona lol.

For me this is extremely good news. Nintendo knows the wiiu is a lost cause and are shifting to the NX. They will lose a fair bit of money but they still have the 3ds, pokemon, miimoto and their other mobile enterprises.

Second, moving the NX to 2017 bodes extremely well for the system's power profile. For me, this almost confirms that it is going to be using some fairly cutting edge shit instead of rushing to market which we should all be happy about. This news definitely supports the use of polaris thats for sure.

Exciting times ahead for nintendo.

This is a thread where we talk about how it's better for Nintendo to have another unprepared and poor showing of the console that they hope to carry them for the next 5 years than to just show it on their own time in a month or two afterwards.
Ok? Bye now!

Seriously though, I like how everyone assumed, with absolutely no assurances, that Nintendo would show off NX at E3 and are now shocked that they... didn't listen to the internet or something?

This is not a good point for why Nintendo should feel e3 is important for them.

They should make themselves look like a company that's actually competing in the vg industry instead of acting like some 3rd party close to bankruptcy. Having proper E3 conferences is part of that. It's the first (or rather, proven) place to gather hype from the most hardcore audience, i.e. people that are the foundation of every console userbase. By not even trying, they just gonna keep appealing to the same few Nintendo people that are still playing on their WiiU or Miitomo longer than 2 days. They need other gamers back though, including some of their standard fans, after not even reaching GCN sales levels on WiiU.

You assume MS and Sony care about a non-competitor.

My fear is they have absolutely nothing else for 3DS and Wii U for the holiday season.

I'm speechless. Nintendo is dead to me right now.
And they were the ones deciding this. They simply decided to fade into irrelevancy until March '17, when they will probably launch a DoA system, considering how they struggle to gain/collect support for their console and how an home console to be launched in March, in low-season, will surely see a HUGE drop in sales from April to October.

Unbelieveble.

I have the same feeling, looks like Nintendo gave up.

Sums up my feeling exactly. GG Nintendo. You'd think the stuff their customers ask for is unreasonable but nope Nintendo gonna Nintendo. Think I'm done pouring money into this company, theyve had far too much of it already.

They could do their own event as early as August, and yes, the things their customers ask for are routinely unreasonable

If the handbeld and console are both significantly expensive and powerful why would they release both simultaneously? That's a lot of money to ask at once. Both would suffer.

Holy shit, just woke up to this piece of news. Crazy stuff.

Somehow its almost never a good idea to start up gaf during breakfast:P

Oh well now I got time to play the games I want on Wii U and then sell it without stress for the new one.

Gonna be interesting if they drop a new console for the 3rd time in a row at a too high price of what the market accepts.

Also Nintendo missing the chrismas sales cant be something they were hoping for so there is probably a few things they feel is needed that is holding it up.

Man so much doom and gloom. Not surprising that people are jumping to Nintendo being dead again "but we really mean it this time!"

The longer they wait, the more people invest in XBO and PS4 (or NEO). Obviously it seems like they don't have a choice because it's a no-brainer to launch Christmas time if you have a preference but wow, something must have shit the bed big time for this level of clusterfuckery to be the result.

I don't know if I would laugh if they were dumb enough to name it Wii something AGAIN.

"Another Wii Addon!?"

Kimishima actually confirmed that the NX brand won't be connected to the Wii or Wii U at all, and he actually thought the Wii U name was a terrible idea in the first place, so that's something we don't need to worry about.

Yes, I am always surprised about how people in forums, which probably are representative of about 1-5% of users, talk about how this or that strategy means Nintendoomed because reasons.

Indeed there were tonnes of rumours about the NX release date and, in the end, as it usually happens with Nintendo, none turn out to be true. What a goddam surprise.

From my part I am looking forward to seeing what Nintendo has in store.

I'm personally cool with this, more time for me to save up and pick up some Wii U games I have yet to get to. But what is Nintendo going to have available this holiday season software wise? Just Pokemon, Paper Mario, what else? Plus not showing this at E3 is not a good sign either IMO.

Pachter was right. L for the people doing the usual meme in the Pachter thread

I'll never take that L because he's always wrong and on very rare occasions right. He still gives the worst advice and has stated many times he only talks about the game stuff on the side so not all of his devotion is even there.

So they spend all this money to show what?

There's nothing to show! The problem isn't presence it's lack of product. 2016 is a quiet year and them trying to act like it's not and spending a few million dollars doing it at e3 won't change that.

Better to have an event in late January and make a big deal out of it then.

Yep, that's not like they said last year that they had a poor E3 because they were preparing their next generation, and that we had to come back in 2016 to see it. That's not like they delayed, once again, the Zelda that should've have the "Wii U" Zelda we've all been looking for.

And 2 months don't change the world this far. They even gave a release date ! So they could have got everything ready for June, even if it's just announcing concept, a few games, a release date. That's enough, and later in the year you give more informations about the line-up. This is a choice they made, not something that was forced into them.

But thanks for trying to save them here. You're brave.

To be fair they did mention E3 but im still shocked at the negativity here. I am 100 percent completely okay with this. The NX kaunching in the spring puts all eyes in Ninty assuming the ps4k drops this year. March next year, peoples wallets will have recovered from xmas shopping and tax returns will be returned lol. Plus the power stuff.

Idk guys. Dont really get why anyone is upset.

Another year in which Sony can probably gather all the hardcore gamer's goodwill at E3 and during holiday season, it's all gonna be about PS4 christmas gifts. As if any kind of significant audience is still gonna care about some NX press release at this point, lol. But yeah, they probably fucked up internally - it's really obvious that this was actually planned for 2016 with Zelda (and covering up that WiiU's lineup is long dead).

PS4 will be near enough 50 million by the time this thing launches, while XBO will be nearly 25 million. I'm almost certain this will be a repeat of the Wii U.

What is this? Someone not acting like an entitled, spoiled child?

I agree with you though. The video game community forums are so toxic at this point it is such a huge turnoff to even try to get into conversations anymore...

I don't remember it being like that growing up the past 30+ years...

Can't wait to see what they have planned as well!

Another thing for the "this thing is getting delayed to Fall 2017" peeps to keep in mind. Nintendo's upcoming fiscal year will be complete death (even worse than this year) if they don't get this thing out in March. The Wii U is as dead as ever and the 3DS is on the decline. The Nikkei report about Wii U production ending in the fall seems to be true given the estimate of 800k units for the entire fiscal year upcoming, so if the Fall 2017 thing turns out true, it would have to mean that Nintendo goes months on end without manufacturing consoles.

I do not accept this hyperbole from you. Sorry Nuas, I hope you'll eat crow in March. The best kind of crows.

Did Nintendo announce that they will stop developing games? Because that's precisely what most of the replies in this and other threads make it look like.

It's the the Nintendo fanboy cycle again: everything is doomed until they start showcasing dozens of titles at a random direct, then it's the best company ever and I'm so happy of supporting their products.

Man so much doom and gloom. Not surprising that people are jumping to Nintendo being dead again "but we really mean it this time!"

Where does that come from I wonder? Genuine question btw, since Nintendo seems to keep itself alive pretty well after all.

Or could be a wii?

I’m sure Nintendo are very much aware of brand awareness, price awareness, gamer tendencies, etc....much more than most of us. We still don’t know the major appeal of the console yet.

These days, when I think of Nintendo, all I think about is emptiness, everything that is missing. Looks like that company decided to lock itself in its room and shoo everyone away.

How would they keep the hype and momentum going for 8 months if they did show something though? Especially it with VR, ps4k and Xbox 1.5 potentially coming out? I just don't see how they keep that steam going for that long. Better to not show anything at this point.

Sony revealed the PS4 specs and info along with game demos in Feb., revealed the actual console in June at E3 and released the console in Nov. A grand total of 9 months from the first showcase to launch, and it seemed to do just fine with maintaining hype. Also having just the Wii U version of Zelda playable at E3 makes it even worse. The Wii U is dead, it's only ace is now delayed to 2017 to launch with the NX leaving it with absolutely nothing for the rest of the year. Tnd they aren't even going to attempt to make a splash leaving Sony to once again run away with E3 impressions, and more importantly, flood every major games outlet with articles hyping the Neo even more.

To add on to the already bad situation, if they release just after or at the same time as the Neo, the same thing will happen to the NX as what happened to the Wii U. This isn't even taking into account to what the hell MS might surprise people with as well.

Where does that come from I wonder? Genuine question btw, since Nintendo seems to keep itself alive pretty well after all.

Expectations and consumer entitlement for the extreme cases.

Logical thoughts about the financial wellbeing of the company who is prolonging the inevitable while foregoing an obviously consumer heavy season for the rest of it.
