NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

They're going to miss holiday sales, they're going to miss those sales for Zelda, and they're not even gonna talk about their new console until the end of the year? After PS4K is already out again?

gg Nintendo. Have fun trying to find revenue this calendar year.

This could be their worst holiday season in a very very long time.

But I am sure they will have another 40 Amiibo's and another limited edition 3DS to milk every last drop from their hardcore fans.

All I'm interested in right now is what this news will do for Sony's Neo plans.

Will they wait for NX launch or are they going for this year's holliday season?

Why would they even consider waiting for the NX launch when it means missing out on a holiday season? I don't think either Sony or Microsoft care much about Nintendo's current situation, to be honest.

Third parties don't all scurry away simply because of power concerns. That's very far down on the long, long list of reasons why developers are dropping the platform.

If Nintendo thinks third parties will all come flocking back when they decides to include meaty hardware, they are in for a rude awakening.
Hm, then what's the thing with Wii's 3rd party situation? Because, that had the sales, a broader userbase than just Nintendo fans and appeal in mainstream.

Not being behind in hardware power, having support for the major engines and fleshed-out tools are more important than you think. These things impact cost of development big time, and if you can reduce these costs with providing a suitable enviroment, you might get a port even with a smaller userbase.

The move outside of the holiday window would imply that any potential third party games that it has or have been rumored that are releasing holiday this year, will launch later on the NX. So potential sales of said games would also take a hit, since multiplatform households will likely just get it on a system they already own.
I was hoping the FFXV on NX rumor was legit, so i could finally play mainline FF on a Nintendo console again. But even if it is, it's coming out on September and i already own a PS4. I couldve held out for a November release, but its hard to stay hermit mode for so long.

If they're expecting to launch in March of 2017, how the fuck are they gonna build hype for the console mere months before with that reveal event at the end of the year? They're not Apple, and they're dead last when it comes to mindshare. What are they expecting?

I'm looking forward to the investors briefing, I'm sure a lot of them will be disappointed with the news too, hopefully they're able to get a bit more information out of Nintendo like "when can we expect to start hearing about what NX is?" and get an answer other than "later in 2016"

No, the investors will be thrilled that two mobile games based on established IPs are coming, and will only be wondering, "WEN MAREO ON IFONE"

Sounds like they're moving away from E3 as their main event in order to avoid clashing with sony and microsoft (and because they'd just be announcing stuff for next year, rather than the holiday season). I can only assume they have their own thing planned for later in the year. But at this stage who even knows?

So what else is there this year besides Pokemon Sun/Moon, Paper Mario: Color Splash, FExSMT and Metroid: Federation Force from Nintendo as a whole? Even during the Wii's droughts and final year, we had DS and 3DS games to look forward to.

2016 is probably the worst year from Nintendo ever at this rate.

Best wishes.

We don't know, usually Nintendo announces those at E3. So perhaps they'll be revealed much closer to launch or they really have triple downed on NX development.

Is it really wise for a company like Nintendo, given their current circumstances, to launch a brand new console in March?

They probably don't have a real choice on timelines here, you need the hardware to be ready and you need the software to power it. It's doable but it's hard-mode.

Way more pissed at no NX at E3 than NX and Zelda delays. Delays happen and that's fine, but it's fucking E3 man and we've been waiting a long time to find out wtf NX really is.

This news is essentially Nintendo saying: "Well, go ahead, spend your money and invest in another console ecosystem, we're not doing anything for a couple years."
I like how you interpret releasing a console in one year as doing nothing for a couple of years.

Guys, this thing is not coming in March.

I could bet right now that there will be no concrete news by the end of the year. They will just announce another delay, focus somewhat on mobile, release the first info on Jan/Feb, do the full blowout during E3 next year and release it November 2017.

Yup. I'm on this thought as well. The "March 2017" is said because they're speaking to the shareholders. There is no way they would say "there is no major release in the upcoming fiscal year" in their financial report.

Meh, I've waited five years for Zelda. What's another year?

Lol at it being the only playable game at E3. Continue becoming more irrelevant, E3. I can't wait for the day when that thing disappears.

Another year? Was there a release date announced before, like spring 2016? If it were going to be released in 2016, wouldn't it always have been holiday 2016? So in the end it's a 3-4 months longer wait?

So much for all those insiders dropping ";)" about NX reveal this week. lol

I can't believe they are waiting until next year.... they must not be near ready yet.

It does say they will reveal before the end of the year right?

So hey we get at least one Xmas present

Because by and large, third party titles don't really thrive on Nintendo platforms. Ports is what the Wii-U had at launch too. Nobody honestly cared much, because those games aren't what people are buying Nintendo hardware for.

Maybe if it was the only console in the market, then you'd have a point.
But with very popular, established consoles already on the market that offer all of the third party titles from day one, many people buy Nintendo consoles just to play Nintendo games. That's not going to change just because they are on an equal power level, porting a game over to a different platform still takes a lot of money and work.

I saw you in the other Nintendo thread :P

I'm honestly hoping that their change in structure does help in making Nintendo less insular and even look to more companies in the west. I'm hoping Kimishima can do something to fix their ailments here since he has worked in the US, man, I can't even calculate it. Most of his life? He was assigned to the US as far back to when he was a banker who dealt with international business.

They have a long list of problems with many 3rd parties and so far, Kimishima seems like the person that might actually be able to do something. He was also the person to criticize NCL about the Wii U and that it would fail.

So, you're in the camp that going as weak and cheap as possible is the best move, correct?

Actually surprised they aren't going to show off the NX at E3. Unsurprised that Zelda is pushed back to the NX launch though. Twilight Princess all over again.

This is my thing. I'm fine with a 2017 release. Heck, it might allow for better hardware.

But I would like a stacked 2016 release lineup to at least play in the meantime.

Hey Im kind of in the same boat

Now I can spread my money around a little easier

Between this delay and several other delays my wallet load is looking much lighter

How do we know they won't even make a little hint about NX during their presentation? You know Nintendo always says one thing, but they could at the end show one thing for the NX.

All these commets as to "it's not succeeding the 3DS/WiiU" and the "new concept" makes me think that there not going for a traditional console but something more like the Wii. Whether that's expensive or not remains to be seen.

Launching March 2017 globally......

....NO MENTION OF IT AT ALL AT E3....

It's all over. Been nice knowing you, Nintendo, but you've lost your way. Say hello to 3rd party Nintendo in 10 years :(

Last year they said no Zelda and they meant it. I have no reason to believe they'd do the same for NX this year

With no E3 coverage but a Q1 2017 release planned, Nintendo MUST have some highly publicized event on par with Sony's PSX (no, a direct will not cut it).

Nintendo sure goes by the beat of their own drum lol

I still think they will show us something about the NX, maybe a prototype controller or a small sizzle reel of upcoming games.
