Well the guy has lived a fairly long life beforehand...


Flores is now 72, and his injuries persist to this day, his lawyer said. And Flores's wife, who had been diagnosed with dementia a month before he was struck in 2012, was so worried that her husband would be put in jail for endangering a police officer that she suffered a heart attack three months later and died.

It's literally a crime that was manufactured by car companies to fuck over pedestrians that then turned into an easy way for cities to get revenue from unwarranted fines.
That too, but it was primarily manufactured by the car lobby to get pedestrians off the roadway, in order for car owners be able to drive faster. If you look at really old film clips, of people walking all over the street, cars need to go very slowly and cautiously to avoid hitting them. By having them removed from roads, car manufacturers could tout the high speed of the automobile as a great way to shorten a trip from A to B.
