I really like analyses that take a big step back and look at things as a whole rather than tackling too many individual issues.

A great part of me wonders how many of these criticisms will be enshrined in history books decades from now as cautionary tales against reckless and thoughtless voters putting demagogues in positions of power.

Yeah, I was really taken by it too.

The only thing I hope comes out of this ruinous run of Trump is that the power of the Executive is severely diminished.

I have always hated how powerful our President has become. From post 9-11 Bush to Obama being forced to extend his power because our elected officials refused to deal.

I know it won't offset the damage Trump has done, but at least he has weakened the office.

Fantastic article, but I won't be happy until he really resigns. He won't because the Presidency protects him from Mueller. Somewhat.

There's no way he's resigning. If he even makes it through the 4 years, I doubt he'll do a peaceful transition of power either.

You're assuming that Trump reads. He doesn't.

Hell, there was chatter back in Jan/Feb about how he wanted the people preparing the Presidential Daily Brief to use more pictures and a larger font size. Guy isn't a reader.

There's very little chance Donald will read it, and even less he would understand it. I expect someone will give him a softened take ("the NY Times is being mean to you again"), which he may tweet about later. The intellectual desolation at the White House is one of the most disturbing things about this presidency. Incisive criticism is only useful if the target is capable of understanding it.

Damn, that's some good stuff.

Couple of things sprung to mind while reading it, firstly has there even been a revolving door that has spun so much for so many people in a presidents term? I can't remember seeing so many sackings.

Secondly, damn, if he's done this much damage in 7 months just how much more is he going to do in the following months? I dread to think how much work the next president will have to do to rebuild the relationships the Trump has basically shat on.

Yea, this is where I'm at too. November 2018 is the biggest test liberal voters will have. I want to believe that Dumbass Don has been successful in at least energizing typically lazy Dems that stay home and not vote. Especially in non presidental elections. If we really want him out winning a Congressional majority is mandatory. I see signs of Dems waking up. Let's see if it's all just talk.

In many ways you could argue he's treated his own presidency just about the same way he would have treated Hillary's. Frankly, anything that takes his time away from TV and Twitter comes off as a terrible inconvenience to him... outside of his many "rah rah, aren't I awesome, didn't I win big last November" campaign rallies.

This is a great point actually.

If you base his presidency on his Twitter posts (and I don't think it's disingenuous to do so given their frequency and prominence in news headlines), then he actually appears like some sort of outsider giving hot takes.

A clever analogy for all this is Trump =Lord Humungus and Bannon=Wez. Trump is letting Bannon off the chain to go do what Bannon does best: lie and rally the Alt-right.

I don't feel it. We keep praising Bannon as a victory but, from what i've sen Bannon is going to war for Trump. How many times have we seen this is the end of Trump? Republicans will only turn on Trump if he starts going left or cant get the wall.HC passed.

I totally agree that Trump can't lead the US, but that's not the problem, the real issue is all the millions and millions of persons in the US that thought (and still think) his radical and racist ideas are a way of solution to make the US a better place in every aspect.

You can get rid of one person but what about all the millions?? we will always be sleeping with the enemy, and that's scary.

We already know he does. It's been reported for a long time that he spends most of his time watching TV, and it's obvious he feverishly follows NYTimes and the Post from his reactionary tweets

Misread of the situation. That's not what's happening, and it's not 47D chess

i think the article brings up a good point in this is the country's first test at having virtually nobody at the wheel. do we just go on autopilot for four years and manage day to day, are you really able to do that without a proper figurehead or does it all crash and burn

It's interesting because in addition to what's specifically going on the WH, there have been numerous stories of them not bothering to appoint or staff positions in Agencies, and causing a breakdown in certain programs, and a general lack of direction.

America is its own worst enemy at times. Electing Trump to be our president is a self-inflicted wound that may take generations to recover from. And even then it may not be enough. Trump winning may have opened Pandora's box when it comes to the public and how they view and vote their politicians. It's a shame but history tends to unmerciful that way.
