The White House on Tuesday accused the Russian government of engaging in a cover-up of the chemical weapons attack last week by Syrian forces that prompted American airstrikes, saying that United States intelligence and numerous contemporaneous reports confirmed that the Syrians used sarin gas on their own people.


In a declassified four-page report that details United States intelligence on the chemical weapons attack, the White House asserted that the Syrian and Russian governments have sought to confuse the world community about the assault through disinformation and “false narratives.”

Senior White House officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the government’s view, said Russia’s goal was to cover up Syrian regime culpability.

Following up on the leaked Intel reports from last week saying the same.

I hate the Trump admin as much as anyone else, but why do people make such conclusive statements like this? Not everything is perfectly orchestrated, Russia has multiple arms and heads. The Trump administration can have dirty dealings while Russia still has interest in covering up Syria stuff. Both things are worth reporting on. Do we just ignore everything about Russia that doesn't align exactly with Trump stuff?

Edit: I guess the focus is on the White House making the allegation, not the allegation itself.

We're in full Adam Curtis mode with this recent Syria business. There are so many narratives flying around and so many theories about who's doing what for what reason that nobody knows what's really going on.

Something like US ground troops deployed to Syria and then after some amount of time, both sides come together for cease fire/peace talks and one of the conditions being sanctions being lifted.
